Well, I mean, you do touch them in a broader sense. 🤔I still think they are talking about the screen, the joycons are not touch-based.

Oh fuck maybe that's what the Senran Kagura director was talking about

I'm pretty sure it did.Didn't the patent application specify that the screen portion had its own rumble actuators?
No, the press release specifically mentions touch controls.
Fuck me, people really go out of their way to be pessimistic.
It's hilarious how we can't decide exactly what they mean. It's like Nintendo. You just don't know until they decide to finally speak on it. Lol

Just check their site, they are doing a lot of applications for their haptic tech.
We help you create custom tactile effects for your device, app, or user interface.
What if the Fire Emblem mobile game is announced to be coming to smartphones and Switch, with the Switch utilizing this tech?Yeah that has to be another event before launch, we have a Fire Emblem direct in a few days so maybe they'll give us another Direct date in that.
I still think they are talking about the screen, the joycons are not touch-based.
Maybe it is the HD rumble. Some outright confirmation would be nice.
This. Because we could be jumping the gun and getting too excited when it could be the HD Rumblesome clarification would be nice before I get excited
The marble balls game is precisely touch based.
Haven't most of the hands-on impressions stated that none of the games present actually use any sort of touch controls? I wonder why Nintendo is shying away from this feature (if true).
the company only does touch screen haptics
it has signed a multi-year agreement with Nintendo to allow Immersion to adapt its TouchSense® technology to the new Nintendo SwitchTM system.
I'd rather take a 250 console, pro controller and MK8 included.

Creates further disparity in functionality between docked mode and handheld mode, though.
Haha, this.Probably because the first year line up is mostly console-like experiences. Once they stop pretending the 3DS has a future, we will see more portable focused games designed for tablet mode.
No way this adds $50+whatever the game and pro controller cost. More like 20 dollars, tops.
We do know that the NS has a touch screen and it has the "HD Rumble" as well.
That said that would be a little weird cause let's remember a game based on tactile screen won't really be playable with the dock. (Maybe that's not important after all..)
That's not the case actually, take a look here, Immersion TouchSense is specifically named in a Thrustmaster steering wheel:the company only does touch screen haptics
Apparently Splatoon doesn't even feature touch controls for super jumping, which is just dumb.
Looks like Nintendo is trying to throw every gimmick possible into this thing and hoping one sticks.
If true this is more advanced than Apples taptic engine. So this is like Apple Taptic Engine? Fucking awesome. Haptic Feedback in the IPhone7 is best-in-class. If this comes close it's gonna be awesome
Press release said:Game developers have long known that adding the sense of touch to games heightens the experience and keeps players engaged. Recent research shows that utilizing haptics technology in the gaming experience increases satisfaction and enjoyment during gameplay. With the Nintendo Switch system, game developers can now leverage the sense of touch, providing game players an incredible tactile experience that isn't currently available on any other game system.
TouchSense technology makes touchscreen controls come alive, giving users the sense that they are touching physical buttons.
TouchSense has nothing to do with the display, it's just HD rumble
