Got the gamepad error and restarted at 80%. Seems faster. Based on the update being out now and eshop still down, is VC going to be launched tonight?

never ever heard of this shit and my Wii had been in that standby mode 2 years because I just left it plugged and played nothing until Xenoblade

there are many other ways to fry your Wii electrical storm is one

I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. It's pretty well known. People who've experienced it usually notice artifacts while playing games - a sign that the GPU is on it's way out. It's caused by overheating due to the fact that the Wii's fans don't spin when in standby.

...and updated!

I will miss Patrick's surprise drawings on Wii U Giant Bomb quick looks now that the drawing will appear on the tv capture instead of only popping up when he finished; it was a nice running gag.

Not only is it a shit ton faster going back to the menu, but MH3 now boots in half of an audio loop, instead of 2 and a half.
Update worth it.

Also UNDO AND REDO IN MIIVERSE YESSSSS...
Over scan adjust should make many peeps happy.

So if you have over scan that you can't disable you now can change screen size and it will reflect in all games/software?

Why Nintendo? What the hell are you doing with your resources?

You know what? Nintendo just is clearly out of touch, I'm done with Nintendo, first they change their main E3 conference to a Nintendo Direct and now they are changing the icons I hardly look at?

Nintendo, I don't know how much you know about me but you clearly just ruined the Wii U with this, just announce the Wii 2 at E3 2013.

:)

interesting I never paid attention to it this was a launch Wii I won from Ubisoft's RedSteel site pre launch

I wonder why Nintendo would put the same issue into the Wii U so I am over here rolling my eyes at the idea but hey it is Nintendo

Well, it is a tad bit quicker, haha

Edit: booting into Wii Mode from startup is brutally slow

It's well known that this update was designed to focus on new features + game loading / menu return, and you'll exit games around 10-15 seconds quicker. Summer update should improve app speed.

What TV do you have?
I always wished play Wii 1:1 pixels. The TVs I tried enlarge the image in Wii mode, even when WiiU mode fits the screen 1:1

Insignia something manufactured in Nov 2011. It's around 32' and I think it's 720p not sure since it displays the Wii U's 1080p just fine and slightly better looking than it being at 720p.

No 60hz support for Wii mode when using component cables.

No option for analogue audio when using HDMI for picture.

So I'm stuck with the choice of playing Wii games in 576i or having no sound for my Wii U. I know my TV is crappy and old for having a dvi port instead of real hdmi, but the PS3 and 360 can do this, Nintendo.

Otherwise I'm impressed with how quickly software launches and exits. Screen adjust at a console level is nice and the whole process was painless and quick. Well done, Nintendo, but I'd still like one of the two issues mentioned at the top of this post to be addressed.

The difference is WiiConnect24 would connect to the internet every minute or so for the entire duration it was in standby, so it could keep the News and Forecast Channels, etc. up to date, as well as receive messages. The Wii U however will only be connected when downloading a game or something so the wi-fi adapter isn't going to be used near constantly.

I can confirm this. It's a true native system-wide setting. Netflix, basically everything asides Wii Mode resizes according to the setting.

This next part is a bit hard to explain... but WiiStreetU along the WiiU VC games had already added black borders to make the display look fine on TV's with overscan. This means since the setting is now system-wide, you'll see those black borders until they update those apps.

Other things like Runner2 which allowed you to resize the screen already will need to be set to the max so it displays accordingly.
