Comics. It will either turn out well, or crash and burn so badly that the Beyonder or some other cosmic entity erases it from existence, Nu52 style.

Ignore it if you must, and stick with the godly MCU Cap.

It can't be any worse than the time Cap blew up a crackfactory and the crack bonded with his super serum and he ran around high off his tits until they filtered his blood a couple issues later.

SPOILERS: SECRET EMPIRE #0's Shocking Captain America Secret Changes Everything

This is the dumbest.

People called Romanes they go the house?
Wait, so their rationale for Hydra Cap 'not being a Nazi' is being done by trying to 'distance' HYDRA from the actual Nazis insofar as HYDRA 'got in too deep' with the Nazis, and couldn't get out?

And that's why they (HYDRA) iced Cap originally?

This twist makes America Chavez going back in time to WWII more awkward.

Looooooool.

I love when Neogaf reveals who actually reads comics regularly.

This isn't even the dumbest thing this year.

I mean, you're not wrong, but at the same time, that doesn't automatically disqualify this as still being dumb.

i wouldnt qualify this as being dumb at all. cap playing everyone like a damn fiddle david xanatos would be proud of is an achievement

Just read the spoilers. So if I got this straight:
1: Nazis won the war, Steve Rogers became a Hydra agent. (Original Nazi timeline)
2. Allies used a cosmic cube to change history, Nazis lost and Steve never joins Hydra. (Revised Ally timeline)
3. Red Skull uses a cosmic cube to switch Steve back to the Nazi timeline version, operating secretly in the current Ally timeline.

Right?

They're getting pretty crazy with Cap's story right now and I get the feeling they're digging a hole that they'll later want to get out of, but I can't lie. The idea of the 'normal' timeline actually being an alternate one to avoid nazi rule is a neat one. The way they arrived at that conclusion was convoluted, though.

The execution was rough but I'm cool with it. The good guys found a way to win and they won. Just because Cap turned out to be a shit guy in the original timeline doesn't mean he's any less of a hero in the revised timeline. Just gotta find a way to undo what Red Skull did.

The convoluted explanation is probably due to Kobik the cosmic cube screwing around

It's just some inception stuff, most likely the cube course-correcting its own effects for congruence.
I expect that by the end of Secret Empire, we'll be back to square one and the story will be that the cube wrote a reality in which the cube rewrote everyone's memory, when it really only rewrote Cap's timeline and everything around it, with maybe a tinge of "is it spinning?" at the very end to fuck with people, because that apparently works well.

Meanwhile, we just got an issue where we got to see how deftly Cap just fucked the entire planet.

I will let it play out

Between cosmic cubes being in play and the universe beeing remade, who knows what is right or wrong

I can't believe they doubled down on this BS. If Marvel is going to keep digging this hole deeper, they should at least give him a new costume and name.
He actually is getting a new costume to wear over the course of the event. He will obviously return to normal afterwards though.

Seems about right?

I just find myself curious on how the Red Skull would even know about the 'original' timeline in the first place - unless upon gaining sentience, the cosmic cube's personality somehow told him?

I mean......no?

He didn't actually play anyone like a fiddle. It was literally revisionist history. Sure, he might have done that all 'off-screen', but Steve Rogers, as we knew him in the comics, wasn't involved in any of this.

It's (kind of) like Squirrel Girl beating Thanos off-screen. Sure, it's kind of cool, but at the same time, while doing this is her 'schtick', it's most definitely NOT Steve Roger's methodology.

Come to think of it, this is also kinda gross on an actual historical scale, given the origins of Cap back in the 40s. I'm not saying aboslute reverence for the character means leaving him static or anything, but this is kinda nasty.

Edit:

But wait, it's okay guys. He isn't the Nazi version of Hydra...

From Screengrabs said:
He grew up to be a devoted soldier in this twisted, false, villainously-manufactured reality along with other key players, eventually rising to the head of a group calling themselves the ”true" Hydra – not Red Skull's demented version. In recent weeks, Steve even killed Red Skull to assume command, preparing the world for the decades-in-planning Hydra emergence – the aptly titled Secret Empire now beginning.

Ehh, it's a bit more complicated than that:
It's clear that Hydra, with or without the Red Skull's influence, was already a proto-fascist organization. The difference between Hydra and Skull-Hydra was that Skull-Hydra served the Red Skull's purposes, whereas OG Hydra was definitely more authoritarian-populist.

There's also other things such as SHIELD and other organizations being around when Hydra was founded, and they all share common mystic roots... but that was partly discussed in the other Secret Empire thread already.

It's just some inception stuff, most likely the cube course-correcting its own effects for congruence.

We're definitely getting something cube related considering that SECRET EMPIRE #0 SPOILER
Kobik's shards were released as Cap's plans were playing out

This is the sort of garbage that makes me thankful for Image. The only DC I read is All-Star Batman and the only Marvel is Silver Surfer. I don't have time to get caught up in this mess.

Don't think Skull knew any about this as far as he concerned Kobik screwed around with history for this to happen

This stuff isn't hard to understand. It's all explained in detail what is going on with Cap. It's wether or not you want to explore this type of story, which is what is being the major conflict with people who don't like this.

Everything should be back to normal by August.

But if we're talking about dumb stuff in comics, here are a couple guns designed for a guy with ten fingers from Daredevil.

But...
People don't have one lone finger on each hand. I have 4 (+thumb) on each hand and I don't need a gun with 4 triggers. One is still fine. Why would a 10 digit dude need 9 triggers?

Who did this haha

Don't really get people freaking out of this. It's obviously just more of Cap's made up reality and is a convenient reason why he wasn't acting like hydra agent all these years.
