I couldn't back last time but will definitely back as a slacker. I'm really gunning for that $300 tier. Does anybody know if the soundtrack contains music from the previous games too? Official soundtrack price for Shenmue 1 is crazy high...

First time kick starting anything. How do upgrades work? Are they like little bonus item addons? Or are we talking about upping to another tier?
A lot of the tiers don't include the prior tier so the latter would be kind of useless to me as i want myself as a gachapon toy and the tiers above it don't include it.

No they said demo for the backers in early 2017.
But I guess that E3 next year we're going to see the first gameplay footage.

For me its Ren and Shenhua. Ren because he's a badass with a subtle caring side. Shenhua because of her sweet personality, as seen in disc 4.

ren, because he's ren. he is shenmue's han solo, and to great effect. can't wait to see that swindling bastard again.
close second is ryo though. while a total shonen manga archetype in the first game, the personal growth and development of his character in shenmue II is incredible. seeing him thinking he's hot shit in small town japan, to getting smacked down with humility in hong kong is pretty great.
xiuying for me. xiuying's GOAT theme seals the deal on that.
second place goes to nozomi, because she's just, y'know, a genuinely nice character. does help that her voice actor was the best in the whole of the english dub. can't wait to see what yu does (potential shenmue 3 spoilers)
with her phone calls. he said something in an interview that if your relationship with shenhua is too good, nozomi will get annoyed and end the calls early.

Not to be negative here but do you really not get that phone card item by backing through this? It's not mentioned at all.
I get that it's supposed to be exclusive to Kickstarter backers but I couldn't back back then without PayPal in the first place so it's a real bummer if I'm gonna miss out on it because of that. I mean this is still backing the game, it should count. :/

they're looking into add-ons to pledges. i imagine the phone card will be part of that, rather than occupying a separate tier spot here.

Received a reply today, PayPal backers don't get access to the phone card item as it's stated to be "Kickstarter exclusive" so I'm a bit bummed.
To be honest I feel like that's a poor decision. If PayPal were available during the campaign in the first place they wouldn't have made the distinction. Bloodstained for example also calls certain rewards kickstarter exclusive but those were still available via PayPal, even after the main campaign had ended.
I mean I'm still a backer, it's still funding stretch goals, it's just the way of payment that's different. Not my fault the option wasn't available earlier.
I'm not mad or anything, but on the other hand I can't imagine Shenmue fans who backed via Kickstarter would be either if they did offer it via PayPal.

I don't want to sound too demanding, especially not to Cedric because it's not his fault, but maybe they'll reconsider if enough people ask. It's a digital item so it's not like it'd be hard to change.

I know it's been talked about to death, but I still can't believe this is actually a real thing, guys.
I bought Shenmue I around the time of the Japanese release, and it holds a special place for me, as it was the first game I ever tried to play in Japanese. I had a translation for all the cutscenes, but everything else was just me fumbling around with my limited language skills. If anything, it made the experience even more immersive.
Shenmue II, on the other hand, was one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time, but I''ve only played it once to date. Truth be told, I became sort of depressed when it seemed like it was never going to be continued and just kind of consciously forgot about how much I had enjoyed it.
With all of the excitement for Shenmue III, I've basically come to rediscover these games. I recently picked up a used Dreamcast with Shenmue I & II(Japanese), and it's surreal to play them all these years later. For Shenmue I, finally understanding all of the little nuances that I couldn't pick up on at the time, as well as being able to compare the game design to what we have nowadays and appreciate every little detail that was thrown in makes it almost like I'm playing it for the first time.
I'm still about half-way through the first game, but I seriously can't wait to experience II again, hopefully in a similar fashion after all these years. Have any of you guys had a similar experience?

i would totally do the same if i had the cash. swish jacket, more money for shenmue 3. you can't lose.
seriously though that jacket is probably one of the few gaming items of clothing you could probably get away wearing in everyday life
i'll look into it. provided ryo is 100% confirmed and the screens aren't fakes. i meant to buy the last one but it just kinda passed me by. akira, kiryu, segata sanshiro, and ryo all in one game? i can't let this one go under my radar.

Shenmue 3 is going to be amazing. I'm pretty sure Suzuki, upon meeting Kid Nicon would have recruited him for the project. If so, then we should be in for a real visual treat when the game comes out.
