Wow indeed.

So it's most likely real, probably the handheld, though probably a devkit.

I don't mind it, but seriously, are developers going to want to develop for it? Nintendo really needs to have some bright-eyed explanations for the benefits and a great marketing plan for all that extra screen space.

Well thats gonna be one powerful handheld in a small form factor if the previous rumor is true (closer to xbone then PS4)

Kinda thinking chip could be powering it.

I guess as a hybrid portable it just gives you a little more 16:9 real estate for knowing where/when to turn and enemies approaching, but the real prospective benefits would be from games tailored specifically from the ground up.

Dunno who they're targeting with this, because even with haptic feedback, they alienated hardcore gamers without using buttons. Seems like another case of the technology just not being quite ready yet and Nintendo is going to suffer because of it. All I can think about is the Iwata GDC keynote where he mentions the need to keep casuals and experienced gamers hooked, but this won't do it for me. I've barely touched my WiiU and I'm only keeping it for Zelda.

Oh well. Hopefully the extra stuff somehow saves the console and it isn't just the cloud gaming shared processing P2P stuff, because internet infrastructure in the states isn't ready for that with our upstream rates.

If the controller's battery is comparable to the Vita, that'd be nice. But considering the battery life of the 3DS revisions and WiiU tablet controller (Nintendo devices with displays on them), I don't have much faith.

Just because the screen is there doesn't mean it has to be used. Have a basic template with your 4 face buttons and a d-pad, boom, you can play any game on it no problem.

Nintendo is killing it with the leaks lately.

  • 2016 games release leaked
  • Pokemon Sun Moon logos leaked
  • NX Leaked
  • What else NINTY

Good luck with the hand problems you will have after using this thing for months on end.

Yeah, we will see. I love the Wii U gamepad regardless of how many people predicted it will not be comfortable to hold. Oh and I remember the Wii remote. "Your arms will fall of if you use this for more than 10 minutes". Yeah right.

If it were the handheld, and Nintendo's answer to mobile gaming, would people freak out any less? :p

Well on a handheld it makes sense to maximize the screen area, even if it means loosing some inputs. It also makes sense to make it flat as possible and it looks way more comfortable than a 3DS. It also looks like a relatively high res screen and whatever that screenshot is supposed to be it at least looks like somewhat complex shaders. It has dual analogs and some shoulder buttons, which means it can play most modern games, even if some secondary inputs has to move to touch screen buttons. So basically it looks like it could be a pretty standard handheld with decent hardware but maybe a bit fewer buttons than one would like.

Ah a hex value, should have noticed it as a web dev, although i'm not dealing with that most of the time.

Also, this is CBOAT on another level, forget bad grammar and spelling, it's programming values time!

Hey Rösti, spill another thing, please. Use regular expressions this time though, using hex again might be too conspicuous!

The issue with this getting leaked the way it has would be that just looking at it at an odd angle won't showcase the new functionality of why Nintendo would have chosen this method.
Like seeing the Wii mote without knowing how motion controls work or the nunchucks.

It doesnt stop the main concern:
No buttons.

If the inside rectangle can really show the full aspect ratio, and the curved edges show a bigger fov, it's a neat gimmick... I like the concept but the form factor is definitely questionable.

I'm not sure that that SHARP screen tech [which was rumored to be used by Nintendo] can have holes in it.

Who knows, maybe they have upgraded their screen tech...

It might have advanced haptics, like the Steam Controller.

Haptics is still a compromise for actual physical buttons.
And compromising on one of the most essential parts of the gaming experience for the sake of the novelty of a big rounded screen is ass-backwards in every way. It's very Nintendo-like in that regard.

Definitely a legit concern.

Has anyone had hands on time with haptic buttons? It is a 'you have to try it to believe it' type thing like VR?

Yup, i'm concerned as well. At least the joysticks are real. That's what separates phone games from dedicated devices, primarily. If the buttons work well and feel alright and i'm not constantly looking to see where buttons are, then it's fine. The concern is that it's a chore/struggle to get the game to do what you want it to do, making the experience less fun overall. If this is real, I hope that's not the case.
