Fallout 4: Far Harbor IOTI Point Lookout 2: Synthetic Boogaloo

Is there anywhere in particular I should be looking for new armor or weapons?

I'm still using the same Deliverer pistol I've been using for many, many hours now and I've not really changed armor because I've not found anything better.

I feel there's a severe lack of diverse loot in this game.

This hacking puzzle is awful. I honestly can't believe it's in here. I hate it.

yup, looking up youtube guides for all of them save the first one

It took me like an hour to do the last one since there were no guides of it when I got into the beta.

The first puzzle didn't explain itself as to what I was supposed to do, and in the last puzzle, you have to use a mechanic that the game didn't even hint to.

but once you get the hang of it, it actually becomes pretty fun. Wish there were more of them.

The biggest mistake of FO4 is voiced protag

I remember how awesome it was silently reading stuff in your own voice

YOU were the protagonist

That, and because of this terrible mistake, the quests choices and writing suffer for it even more so than any other Bethesda game I've played. It bored me to fucking tears.

Good to hear the DLC is good ( except the expected LOL framerate and performance issues ), I'll buy it if it ever goes down to 5 euro's.

Is there no "best" weapon for dealing with fog crawlers? They have an insane resistance to ballistics and have some resistance to energy. My plasma rifle and alien blaster make no more of a dent than my gauss rifle. Takes about 5 shots to kill a level 80 enraged fog crawler (I'm level 85 with rifleman and Lone Wandered maxed).

Playing on Normal by the way.

How far in with the Institute do you have to be to get the option to tell them about possible rogue synths in Far Harbor?

This is when you first talk to the parents of the girl before heading to Far Harbor for the first time.

You can do that? Do I need to go talk to the Synth Retention guys?

Is there a good guide up for the last one yet? Stuck on it currently and all the youtube guides either miss a part or enable free camera

edit: nvm found one, holy shit this just doesn't end does it

I haven't met Institute yet with this character so I only got option to tell Railroad and Brotherhood.

This is all before even going to Far Harbor for the first time.

Man, these guides are so different from what I did. The mechanic I thought was required is trapping the beam with two blocks, you didn't need it lol. But it works out if you go that route.
Here's how I did it if anyone wants.

Used four blocks here to guide the beam towards the extender, or whatever that right side thing is called in the first pic. You will need a total of 6 decoders to finish this

Then I used two decoders pointing at each other to trap the beams together, grabbing the last decoders to setup pointing to the finish line. All I had to do now is put a decoder in between the beam.

I gotta admit I cheated in the memory ones, not because they were hard, but because they were just so effin boring.

I used tlc (noclip) which basically allowed me to cut the time in half so I didn't have to run around building bridges between the puzzle platforms.

Goddamn that one (the fifth) is so badly designed it hurt me.

1. When do you have to do the hacking puzzles? Deep into the DLC?

2. Are there any never ending side missions in Far Harbor?

That last puzzle is a prime example of busy work. They stretched out a simple 5 minute puzzle into an hour long puzzle by making you build and deconstruct at every turn.
It wouldn't bother me so much if there were a way around it. It's Fallout, you think there'd be an alternative to doing a mind numbing puzzle. I hate when stuff like that is mandatory.

I was close to just turning around and blowing the guy's head off who gave me that mission. I just wanted it to be done with.

To be (somewhat) fair, the 4th and 5th are both optional, but yeah, the 5th was definitely way too long for relatively too little of a reward, imo.

How are they optional? It took me directly to them, I didn't get an option to GTFO?

You can leave at any time, the first one is the only one required to progress the main story.

The 2nd and 3rd one unlock the
nuclear launch key and windmill generator power thing
, the 4th unlocks an audio log with
Nick and Dima
and the last one unlocks the locations of the
Marine Armor

Speaking of, can I get the
nuclear launch key and windmill generator thing
without actually using them?

@Lanrutcon I'm guessing that backpack is a mod? I really like that gear in screen #3 on.

Yes.
You have the option of who to give them to/what to do with them.

The dlc was going great, then I did the puzzles, then I thought it might be the worst fallout dlc, then I did more quests afterwards and I liked the dlc again.

Why does that puzzle shit exist. Like, what the fuck. Who decided that was a decent thing to "challenge" the player with? Is it because they felt that the settlement building mechanics were wasted so they decided to force them on us to justify it?

Edit: whoops, didn't know only the first was required. That makes it less bad but seriously fuck that shit anyway.

I set it that way with low opacity. It's just how I play :p

No mods. It's Field Scribe Armor. Comes with a backpack, and I'm never taking it off.
I NEED IT.

...buuuuuuut I made enemies with the Brotherhood so I'm going to have to go hunt a scribe down and take it. Gonna go all Hitman on their ass.

So there were some complaints about bad framerate yesterday. Is it bad for everybody on console?

I've noticed it dip many times but it never ruined the game for me. Seems like normal Fallout to me but I probably haven't seen the worst of it. I'm on ps4 too.

So, I hear this is a very good DLC. Thoughts? I'm looking for something to play this weekend, but I don't have the season pass. And I am on PS4 so...yeah.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
Is the DLC just unlocked in the game? I didn't get any new download in my PS4.

If you don't have the season pass I'd just wait for a sale personally instead of buying it for $50, especially since we don't know what else is coming and the performance is kinda borked right now.

Hit the 'build' button equivalent when you're at settlements while in the puzzle, it'll ask you if you want to leave.

Or just fall off the edge, it'll do the same thing.

Well, I'm done with the main quest and I think most side quests. Oddly enough, I never ran into the character that gives me the Brain Dead quest. So now I'm looking to trigger that.

I was super into it until the hacking puzzles, which aren't mandatory as I thought. Sadly, the damage has been done. It really soured me to the whole thing.
Its an alright expansion.

if you have the season pass the DLC should show up as free in the store but you still have to click download on it first.

ohh ok...thanks!

Just did the puzzles, last one is the only one that got me to stop and think for a few minutes, overall not that difficult, but yeah, a tad long, not looking forward to do it again in another playthrough xD

that's the issue of the modding system taking precedence over the 3/NV system. I personally prefer this but I can understand people who preferred those loot systems instead.
