Can't believe the guy is going to have it teared down after spending £300 on it but it is his decision.

I can't imagine Sony will be pleased about this. Has a unannounced console ever been teared down before?

Possibly he's found somewhere willing to pay him more than that in exchange? It'd make a very enticing exclusive story for them to run.

I wonder if Digital Foundry are trying to get their hands on it. Saw him tweet DF, but can't find the tweet he was responding to.
I had the same thought... but the DF Twitter account looks to have been dormant for a month or so now. Nothing obvious from the main Eurogamer account either. Of course, it could all have gone to DMs.

SSDs don't operate with full SATA II bandwidth so that's not even the bottleneck, it's soft-capped. SATA II is already more than any magnetic 2.5" drive requires.

What do you mean SSDs don't operate with full SATA II bandwidth? In the PS4 or in general? If you mean in general, that's very not right. If you mean in the PS4, then yeah, the SATA II to USB internal bridge is a further limit, plus the single plus some Jaguar core for the OS.

SATA II peaked at up to 300MB/s. Watch your big and little B's.

A good SSD passed that a very long time ago, and even hit the SATA III/6Gb/s (600MB/s) limits, hence PCI-e SSDs at over 1GB/s.

doesn't seem to have a place for the bar light :/

I like that little light notification thingy, wonder if it's just gonna be a blinking light now instead of a bar somewhere on it.

I used a ruler tool to measure the relative thickness (along the full thickness of the left diagonal edges) and the super slim comes to approximately 147 units compared to 217 on the slim. So it's about 67.7% the thickness.

I didn't like it at first but from that angle I like it!! PS3 slim was $100 cheaper than the fat so maybe this will be $249? Or maybe $299 and &249 for the holidays?

Yeah it's probably gone. They were cheap enough to remove all lights except the HDD light on the 2nd PS3 Slim revision

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Hey this is great news .. if its a cheaper price point I'll be more than happy to get one.

Getting that fake vibe

If this turns out fake it will beat out that NX controller leak by some way.

rabidrabbit over at B3D pointed out that 3 of 8 PlayStation symbol feet are slightly thicker meaning that it forms a tripod base. I would award this fake a tenth Dan if he went to that level of detail.

Historically when Sony releases a slim model, it's about making a cheaper and smaller system to manufacture and this is no different. It looks cheaper because it is.

Unlike the Xbox One S which is an improvement over the original design, this is just cutting costs to replace to replace the original model.

I bought the Xbox One S, there's no real reason to get the PS4 Slim unless it comes with a 4k Blu-ray drive and you need one.

So, chances of real vs fake? Also, any chance of 4k player? Would be weird for Sony not to have it since they specialize in media like that. As well as make 4k tvs themselves

Why is the eject button right in the slot under where the disc comes out? If real that's poorly designed! Let's have you stick your finger in the way of an ejecting disc!

Hot air exhaust appears to be limited to this area on the back, so it should be pushing a lower volume of air.

Not necessarily. The air could be flowing at a greater velocity which would result in the same volume flow rate.

The S is still the cheapest. Doesn't yet support bitstream through the player (so no Dolby Atmos yet), but MS has said that's just a software update and it's probably coming.

There are two standalone players right now, a Samsung and a Panny, but both are more than the S.

The Philips player is $299 and comes with a movie. The Samsung player is $350 or less, actually $299 at Costco. These also have two HDMI out ports, so you can run the audio to your receiver if it's not 4k HDR compliant. These are no compromise players. Getting an Xbox One S is a bad investment if all you care about is the movie functionality.

Still wondering if this has any CPU/GPU upclocks at all. But yeah everything is generally about cutting costs with Sony. The first PS3 actually had a pretty complicated outer shell because the top was a separate glossy see-thru panel that came off. The slim was just 2 pieces for the casing.

This just looks like the cheaper version of the current PS4 that'll be sold alongside the Neo. There's some jankiness in the pictures but I wouldn't be surprised if Sony made something like it.

But they don't make 4K UHD Blu-Ray players yet. Theirs isn't even rumored to release until sometime in Q1 2017.

You watch your big and little B's. It's pretty obvious I was talking about the PS4.

Still possible for this to be an elaborate hoax, like some small 3D printing company etc. for publicity.

I think it looks okay, thing is the PS4 itself didn't look too bad and was small enough so the improvement is not that big of a deal. PS3 Fat to Slim change was much more important. PS4 is going for <250€ in Germany when you wait for a deal, hope the Slim won't drive the price higher again.

Fake?? .. you guys love your tinfoil hats, I would say No 4K, they have Neo for that, this only exists to sell more PS4's at a much cheaper price.

Why do the Slim models always get uglier? Why not keep the original size and improve the internal components like better cooling etc

Wow, I'm surprised at the number of people doubting this. I mean, if this is fake, it would put even that NX controller to shame - and that's the best fake I've ever seen. I mean, we not only have multiple images of it from all angles, but we also have the box art front and rear, too. And none of it's potato cam.

This would be a god-tier fake if it's not real. It surely has to be legit?

It'd be an entry model PS4 for those who want one on the cheap. The Neo is the premium model.

Some posts earlier were asking about a covered port on the rear and I think it is actually just this?

PS4-Close-Up.jpg

The sticker that says designed and engineered by Sony. Or was it about something else?

New tweet from shortman:

Hi guys, I will be honest. I am currently arranging for someone to do a full breakdown and video/pictures of the slim so watch this space :)

If this is true it may well be whoever is going to do this wants full dibs on powering it up and then tearing it apart. Just saying. I've seen a lot of teamfake appear again the last few pages.

Honestly for a redesigned PS4 I would have been ok with them reusing the original PS3 design again. Real talk.

PS2 slim and the original PS3 slim were pretty nice
PS2 slim was ugly with the shiny plastic strip, PS3 and PS4 are good, PSone's by far the best.

PSone > PS3 slim = PS4 super slim (need better pics) > PS2 super slim > PS2 slim > PS3 super slim

Slim models are made to reduce cost. Making the footprint smaller reduces the cost on material, shipping, and warehouse space.
