NX officially has the least time between reveal and release of any Nintendo platform

And what a stunning launch it was. Though admittedly I don't think the date was the reason it stumbled out of the gate.

Uh, at the time, the 3DS's launch was one of the most successful in Nintendo's history. It was wrecking in the first weeks. It tanked AFTER that, once it became clear there weren't any games.

The 3DS slumped hard, but the actual launch did really good. It was just a poorly timed launch in comparison to games being ready, leading to poor sales. You can argue price too, but we'll never know if it would have been alright at that price if they actually had games people wanted to play too.

Y'know, while I really, really, really don't want to believe that there won't even be a reveal date before the Q2 results, it's probably best if I just try to assume that.

Sigh.
It makes the most sense. If something happens ahead of it that's cool, but I think most should anticipate the Q2 report. At least doing so will avoid the daily expectation of news.

Nintendo Force commented the cover a month ago. It's nothing. Relax.

Yes, the insane pricepoint and terrible launch lineup had more to do with it.

That's what is mind-boggling to me. Cling to the hybrid rumor and everything else, but when she finally speaks on the reveal date, ignore it. How does that make any sense?
Yeah, I don't get it. If you believe the hybrid rumor then I don't see why you wouldn't believe her with the October reveal. She's the one whose been giving more details of the hybrid from her source(s)-not Eurogamer.

Oh boy, this thing has to deliver in a big way, cause if it ends being a pricey low powered strange gimmicky machine with a bad launch line up the meltdowns will be of epic proportions...

So, we have kaioshade (January) v.s. Emily (October) now, eh :p

Seriously kaios, who told you about January for the reveal, and how reliable you can say he/she is?

It was someone within Nintendo. Not saying more than that. Nor am i saying under what circumstances i met them under.

But i jokingly asked when Nintendo was going to say something about the NX, and they told me they obviously cannot say much, if anything, but to "look forward to January"

I am not a journalist, or someone really "in the know in the industry" either. This was a chance encounter, and if it does turn out to be true and they weren't messing with me, prob the first, and most likely last piece of insider info i ever get.

January is when kits should be at Best Buy to play around with for christ-sakes. Maybe January is when pre-orders will began.

Wow, I really appreciate your info, Kaio, but I hope you know what you get yourself into. Your words might be spreading to several sites in the next few days lol. People are very thirsted of any NX info.

So something that cannot be verified as there is no way for you to prove this ever happened, nor get "bish verified"?

they aren't going to say shit until the investor meeting

where they'll give some details on NX, but it won't be the full blowout we all want. that will come in January.

Correct. take it as you will at this point. I prob wont even see them again (at least not until possibly next year)

I can give bish some details, but obviously not too much, so not sure if that will be enough to get verified anyway. There were a few other things said about it as well that made me believe the january stuff.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Okay, what is up with the January? Why? Why January?

Sincerly, I don't know why Anth0ny started saying it since months ago as a mantra, while kaioshade was seemingly told about January. It's quite iffy, considering the kind of source and occasion, but thanks for explaining the context better.

The lend some form of credence, or perspective, to the January claims just think back to 3DS. It was revealed at E3 where we saw games, the system, and other bits of information. Launch lineup, pricing, and launch date for US was given in early January at a media briefing/Direct. Something similar with NX could easily happen. I guess it depends on what you expect from the reveal.

Cool Facts: Game of War has been a hit since July 2013
The NX is twice as brilliant as it was before, so now it'll only take competitors 2 months to completely copy it.

cause if it's not october

it's not going to be november or december

and then you have january :)

Start of the new year, fresh new start, no holiday season to worry about. Nothing between January and March, the supposed launch of this new console. Nintendo is not opposed to dropping bombs in January, as we all know from the great bomb dropping of January '13.

It may be the agonizing wait that's affecting me, but I feel like this is the quietest it's ever been for any previously known console before launch or reveal.

No pointed leaks or investigations. Extremely vague reference to hardware and spec. Seriously hushed tones all around.

I would hope we would know what the NX is by January. I could absolutely see them withholding launch details until 2017.

Launch details very likely won't come until January. A two-month window for that is pretty normal for Nintendo.

Not revealing the hardware, though... won't it already have to be be well into mass production by then? Wouldn't that all but guarantee a leak?

That's what I mean. We could see the hardware and a software sampling this yr with impressions, but launch details will come in early 2017.
That's fine. I don't think anybody is expecting every detail of the NX. Nintendo never gives all the details when they first reveal their system.

We just want what's the NX and what games are coming to it with the initial reveal, which should be this year. The exact launch date and price of the system can be in January.

I do. Come on, 5 months ahead of launch and no details about said launch ?
Nintendo never gives all the details but Nintendo never skipped numerous E3s and events for their hardware reveal. Neither they kept them so long under the blanket. It's supposed to launch in 5 months. We know nothing about it.

That's fine. I think everyone just wants to see what the hardware actually is to see what it's going for and who it's aiming to please. Price and date can come later.

Some footage of the hardware and its specs would be nice and then some trailers for games.

Later sounds like a bit late but still, at this point the only thing that matter is to see the damn thing.

I'd be extremely surprised if they announce the pricing more than a couple of months before launch. They've left price announcements close to the last minute so for all their consoles in recent memory, and especially with how volatile currency markets are this year they wouldn't want to get locked into pricing that becomes unprofitable in certain regions following a currency shock.

I agree it's a unique situation being 5 months from launch with no info at all about a new system. Again, who knows how much the Wii U's failure may have scared them or what their plans are.

I don't see how delaying the launch means lying. Nobody in business thinks like that. Plans can change. If Kimishima can come up with reasonable explanation for the delay to tell shareholders I don't see how the delay is impossible. In fact, if I'm a Nintendo shareholder right now I would have asked them to move some of their developers working on the NX to focus more on the mobile, considering how successful the PGO is.

No, there are people who think that they lied. Also, the specific reason that's important here. People are saying that they believe that it can't be launching March because that's not a month systems would typically launch in. That would mean that think that either Nintendo suddenly had a revelation that they shouldn't launch in March, or Nintendo lied. That's my issue with that kind of logic. When systems typically launch is completely irrelevant to NX launching in March or not unless you believe that Nintendo lied from the start.

Also, saying that Nintendo should compromise NX's chances of success because of one game being a smash hit mobile is short-sighted and suicidal if it doesn't work out. For all we know, it may turn out that Pokemon and Mario end up being the only Nintendo IPs to find huge success on mobile. I'm also not even sure why you brought that up other than third-party Nintendo begging.

This pretty much adds to what I said about forecasts and what the reception to the NX will be.

They'll most likely reveal the hardware and software this year. Then they'll talk about pricing and an exact date in March for release in the following year.

All because they need to see how people react to the NX and price accordingly just like with the 3DS although that was problematic given the lack of software to justify the price of the hardware.

When they did that, they fucked up. They priced 3DS because of the reveal and they had to cut the price 4 months later.
