Final Fantasy XV Judgment Disc demo out now on JPSN & JP Xbox Store

Really late here as I only got to unbox my Pro and try out FFXV last night, but the game seems to look graphically better in "Light" Mode? With the 4K Checkerboard mode sacrificing graphical fidelity for higher resolution.

At the very least, there seems to be far less dithering on hair in the lightweight mode as far as I can see.

Could this also be a result of the game being on easy? Or would that not matter? Episode duscae had a good balance of enemies throughout during the day and hell I'd argue it was too much at night

Perhaps. Maybe it's just the location (I know, I know, it's a desert) but thinking more about it, the actual enemy density just needs to increase a tad bit. Or at least there should be a way to kind of gauge where enemies are located off in the distance to offset the feeling of being in the middle of a desert and not knowing which direction to take to run into encouters.

Don't think so considering they showed off a newer build recently that had menu animations for the party and a beastiary listed

Any link for this? Would like to see the menu animations lol.

Yeah I think I'm out until this hits $20 or so. Combat is better than both of the Episode Duscae but it's still not clicking me. Not much else is peaking my interest either based on what I've played. Characters don't seem that interesting, art style is dull for a FF game, overworld doesn't seem that interesting.

I said wow
Wow, this track is great. Bass line is similar to Underneath the Rotting Pizza from FFVII. The OST is going to be supreme, that's for sure :)

That was the first thing that sprang to mind when I heard that track a while back. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed!

Monster mobs and single monsters are scarce, but this is just the demo. They've removed monsters, NPCs and quests in it.
One thing I'm not sure I will like is that you mostly don't see a sabretusk attack coming. A pack suddenly spawns near you to attack you. In Episode Duscae you could already spot them from some distance. I get that this feels more like a vicious ambush...but if they really spawn out of thin air instead of hiding somewhere, where you could or could not notice them before, that is really cheap.

So you don't get to watch all the monsters eat and hunt from a distance? They just pop up like a random encounter from the old times :( that's a real bummer, didn't the creators take such pride that they had modeled the animals like real life with regards to how they hunt/eat/play?

I really thought I could look out from a mountain top and see all the wild life down below and seek out the hard/rare monsters :(

Any word yet on when the reviews for this game will hit? I'm excited for it, tempted to pre-preorder so I get it a few days before release, but at the same time I've never been so uncertain about the quality of a game before; I've decided I enjoy the base gameplay after this demo, but without a compelling story it won't be enough -- MGSV had some of the best stealth in any game I've played but the letdown story killed all motivation I had to finish it, and I loved Metal Gear.

Hmm, HQ mode improves in visual quality (shadows, LoD, AO, AF) and res...so it looks better alround I think. Caayn's post shows some of the difference:

My real only complaint is the frikkin lack of field themes. WTF?

It is so beautiful when it plays...when being the key word. I want that crap to be playing 24/7 when I'm on the field LMAO.

Hope they patch this in. I love how dynamic the soundtrack is...but not silence. very very un FF like for me. Reduces sense of wonder.

Agreed, I would much rather have constant music than moments of dead silence.

Enemy density should be fine in the full game, I forgot that in Duscae they had enemy drop ships as well as random monsters.

Without those drop ships it does feel a bit sparse. With them in addition to whatever monsters are missing in the demo I'm hoping it will feel more populated (after you get to the point where the dropships start appearing, not talking about the very beginning of the game).

I wish they had an option to bring the car music outside the car. With so many amazing tracks I'm hoping there is a way to bring them with you while in foot

I actually don't like when it always plays. TW3 for example has stunning field music, but after a few hours I really wished it would stop.

It only happens with sabretusk enemies, the other enemies you can spot from afar. I guess they purposely made the sabretusks spawn all of a sudden near you to give you that feeling of being ambushed by them.

It would be cool if there was a collectible item later in the game that allowed you to play the Final Fantasy radio while walking in the field.

Yup.

Why does the Morning BGM in Leide or wherever have the same musical theme
GRATIA MUNDI
as the Altissia song? Kinda strange.

It takes around 17 minutes to run across Leide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlEL-gBM8yw#t=33.448354

This compares to 28mins to run across Velen in Witcher 3, with a less direct route: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM0msfKnfD4

Leid is only one section in FFXV. Seems like the game is going to be pretty huge. I would guess bigger in total area than Witcher 3, which would be expected since you are travelling largely by car.

That's pretty impressive, although it only further reinforces my prediction that FFXV will only have three or so main "zones" before growing increasingly linear, rather than the five or six (or more) some are expecting.

I'm cool with whatever (within reason) but yeah, definitely not anticipating more than four at absolute most.

Yep.

Gimme them Xenoblade Chronicles themes playing in different zones any day.

Exactly.

Not hearing it fam.

But I'm not entirely sure how it got labelled as Altissia anyway.

edit: Oh, you mean one of the other exploration musics.

It's not necessarily Altissia's theme. It's a recurring theme like Cloud's in FFVII.

While I agree this would be cool, it probably can't happen because there are too many dynamic music transitions when you are on foot and free-roaming =/

You are forgetting that within three or so main zones there can be mutltiple cities and environments to explore

Talking about this one from this demo:

Altissia (so it isn't officially the Altissia theme?):

FFVII is one of my all-time faves and I've beaten it dozens of times, but this is the first time I realized the main/overworld theme was also Cloud's, lol. Is it officially labeled as such on the soundtrack?

I don't like when specific character themes are used for songs in areas and situations that are unrelated to the character, though. Maybe I don't remember their in-game uses right, but I felt that, e.g., the FFXIII games overdid it with Lightning's theme at times, though in some way it was also cool how it was incorporated in so many different ways for cutscenes, boss battles, and credit songs over the course of 3 games.

I gotta say the game looks pretty ugly and the animations and control really feel stiff. The demos before were quite dissapointing but this is basically a chunk of the real game so i have to say that i expected more.

How does that compare to xenoblade chronicles x?

Yeah, day one patch may help with frame pacing or camera or bugs, but not going to address this kind of stuff. Too bad you felt that way -- the control felt stiff to me at first too, but once I adjusted my mindset to "tactical action" vs "character action" I started feeling it.

Dont get me wrong. Im still buying it day one. Kinda interested in the VR mode too
