This is reassuring. Still don't like the partnership if it's going to create exclusive content though. But if MS really is going to let me use whatever VR hardware I want then that is great. And especially if they really are helping others develop the tech.

I think it's more about ecosystems. Microsoft wants to get its Windows Mixed Reality platform onto as many HMDs as possible, while Facebook simply... wants more people to try VR. Microsoft and Facebook have a lot to offer each other atm, and they have collaborated on helping each other's ecosystems out.

Instagram, Facebook and Messenger apps for Windows 10 Mobile / UWP, for example. Facebook had no reason to do that, unless MS was offering to help them out with their ecosystem woes, the biggest of which right now is undoubtedly VR.

Podcast hints at a potential name that has been "banded around"...
"Xbox One X"
.

Gotta say, that works for me.
That sounds lazy like when you can't get a name you want and you add an extra X on the end because you can't think of anything better. Xbox One Pro or Xbox Pro (assuming "One" is dropped) would be more sensible imo.

...although if they decide to introduce a model 'E' down the line, like they did for Xbox 360, they might have a rather explicit lineup.

Listening to the podcast.

Xbox Scorpio could be smaller than xbox one s from what jez heard. Take this with a grain of salt tho.

Possible if the esram is gone as that takes up room which would mean more efficient cooling that could also be smaller.

Yeah, I understand all that... But as a consumer I don't care. What I do care about is the health of VR as a whole.

Basically think about what you said on the podcast with Sony and 4K TV's and not blocking MS from showing RDR2 on scorpio because it would help them in the long run since 4K is so young.

IMO both VR and 4K need as much openness as possible atm in order to grow healthy in a way that benefits consumers.

Yup, this is why remasters don't sell at all...

Or better graphics cards...

Or... you get my point.

There is no denying that these are desirable but are they system sellers for consoles? Microsoft needs to up its games output and most of their new and old properties this entire generation have failed to gain much traction.

Xbox

Xbox 360
Xbox 360 S
Xbox 360 E

Xbox One
Xbox One S
Xbox One X

It fits with the naming scheme of previous models and even brings the brand full circle with the acronym XBOX.

MS at Gdc basically confirmed that VR on Xbox will be through the mixed reality platform.

They literally said that: Today we are announcing that windows holographic is now windows mixed reality platform, and that uwp now has support for tons of headsets from many partners. If you are interested in developing games for it look for the id@xbox guys and they will help you. We are also bringing the mixed reality platform to xbone and Scorpio in 2018, so you can start developing for them now.

Did people really refer to Xbox One as XBO?

I must be blind, don't remember it being common on GAF.

Xbone mosty died now right.
Xbox One, people just type that.

Xbox One X

You want to call it just Xbox so bad. Do it. The 'One' name will always suck.

Futurama, not fussed either way.

So the driver files for scorpios bluetooth module simply labels Scorpio as "4K" according to the podcast.

Xbox 4K as a name? Very boring but gets the point across

Shinobi said he heard that the console was "damn impressive".

Yes, but the mind blowing comment was regarding the looks of Forza 7, not the power of the hardware.

And I think Turn10 will do well if it looks any better than GT Sport. Hopefully I am wrong!

Oh yeah, I totally agree.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I would presume that Microsoft would want to showcase Scorpio at its best, rather than what devs are currently working on, which is the in-progress XDK. They have to make sure new APIs don't get broken and that sorta thing when they ship XDK updates, which will be going out monthly between now and June.
Wait so currently they really havent reached 6TF?

.........how do we exactly know that The F7 shown arent using PC with Comparable power?

Im not really familiar with tech but are such improvement really possible with new update? If memory serves me both PS4 and X1 spec more or less remain the same...

Why wouldn't they? The games will all be Xbox One games sold in Xbox One cases... They might put an "Enhanced by..." on the cover, but it's still going to need Xbox One branding.

You can change the box to simply be "Xbox"

They've already retroactively changed the boxes before

Xbone 4 lyfe

Xbox One X doesn't seem TOO bad actually, doesn't roll off the tongue that well but whatever, it will always be known to me as the Xbox One Two.

Should have called it Xbox One Up though.

gf came and dropped a huge burger on my desk.

Yeah I totally agree, I think any "partnership" will basically be a marketing thing. Ideally, HTC and other headset manufacturers will be able to get involved as easily as possible.

No they said Forza looks mind blowing.
Oh OK, then the poster misheard it then.
Yes, but the mind blowing comment was regarding the looks of Forza 7, not the power of the hardware.

They did call what they've heard of the tech specs "mindblowing" (listen from 48 minutes in) and then they called Forza mindblowing later on around 51 minutes in:
https://soundcloud.com/xboxcentral/xbox-central-episode-33

They also don't know what CPU it has so I wouldn't link their mindblowing comment to the CPU.

If we're getting the specs this week and not a full reveal of how it looks and everything I wonder if they will release a video of that later this month or next month or perhaps show it during that MS hardware event if that's still happening. Or perhaps we simply have to wait until E3 and that they just show the console itself there. But keeping Scorpio in the news until E3 would be smart.

Do we know anything else about FM7 other than "its mind blowing" (and the fanatec leak)

Not sure if the front cover car was alluded to but I think it's safe to imagine weather will make an appearance in the main game. Rain would be a good wow demonstration if they show anything.

Yeah, I think it would be a mistake for Microsoft to limit Scorpio to one VR platform. I think it's likely they may team up with one for marketing purposes, but it would be unwise for them to limit their premium console to one device (plus Scorpio being able to run multiple headsets will give them an advantage over PS4/PS4 Pro).

Would it have the advantage on price? Because as far as i can see it's that which is the big stumbling block for VR on any platform. Even the comparably cheap PSVR still has a big sticker price, and i somehow doubt scorpio + vive/oculus would end up cheaper than PS4 + PSVR?

Edit: xbox one x sounds good to me though, although it's acronym will be a type of cow, lol.

Forza running in 4K, Halo Wars gets a patch for 4K, 3rd party with exclusive Scorpio content and teaser for a new IP. These things i expect... along with a quick peek at the hardware.

Maybe but i think they're aiming to impress... i could be wrong but i can definitely see them showing off a game or two.

Also we won't hear a peep about pricing but i'm guessing $450 dlls.

As a lot have stated FM7 may be the showcase MS has chosen for that. I personally doubt there will be other games in the mix. Pricing is a topic reserved for E3 for sure.

MS must be really really confident in Scorpio to invite DF out to look at the system. I'm sure they know DF picks apart these things in depth.

How you cannot be confident with a GPU spec of 6TF and that memory speed of 320gbps? Especially the memory speed is huge, really huge.
