Xboxone Resolutiongate (Eurogamer)

But you said you could clearly tell. Note that while my shots are blown up, at regular size each one is more than 4% of the entire screen. So if you insist, here they are again at real size:

Top is PS4.

You're right, in this example just looking at a fraction of a screenshot, I can't tell the difference. They both look equally blurry and bad which still doesn't help the PS4 version's case.

All of the screenshots and video's you've seen comparing these games have had compression. The real thing will look inevitably sharper.

No, a lot of other people also seem to like more aliasing, no ambient occlusion, crushed black levels and overdone sharpening.

Seriously, download the direct feed gameplay videos. The aliasing is hideous.

At first glance it's easy to think the XB1 version looks better. It's like turning up the sharpness dial on your TV. It adds high frequency hash/noise to image and actually decreases image quality, but to an untrained eye, it looks more 'crisp'.

Am I missing something in regards to indie titles?

Apparently indies count against a system's total # of games, and as such PS4 actually has a negative number of exclusives.

At least the PS3 had no games. PS4's even further behind that. It's doomed.

You might enjoy your time better there...

A quote from that site:

"Anyway everyone who wants the real gaming news should avoid visiting SonyGAF and n4g next weeks. That is a good place only to see how desperate Sony employers(paid journos and SDF) try to brainwash, spread the FUD and lie"

Man poor journalists... Sony fans hate them because they are ignoring #ResolutionGate and the difference in performance between the systems, and Xbox fans hate them because they are paid off by Sony to spread FUD about PS4 being better!

Indie games aren't games? Then what are they?
Okay, I've learned not to put sarcasm tags within a spoiler tag. To prevent any further thread derailing on my part, I'm going to make it clear: I was joking. I love many indie games, and will be purchasing many in the near future.

Carry on :p

I'm sorry but some of these indie titles could pass as full priced retail games, the notion that they don't count is ridiculous.

Where did this notion come form that indie games are "lesser" and "doesn't count"? What's the difference between indie games and boxed games other than ad budget and team size?

Anxiously awaiting the quantity over quality argument.

Or better yet, for some chucklehead to figure out which indie titles are 720p (if any) so they can proclaim that PS4 has more 720p titles than Xbox One.

Take a look at the zoom in comparisons here.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-battlefield-4-next-gen-vs-pc-face-off-preview

In all of those images it looks like the PC clearly has the best textures but between the two next gen consoles the XB1 looks closer to the PC texture-wise to me. And I don't know how it can just be the sharpness setting because it just looks like there are details that exist in the XB1 version that are just flat mud on the PS4 version.

Here ya go, open them in tabs. All I did was change the contrast to match the XBO version, and added a slight sharpen (also a good example to as to why not to use sharpening). Now PC version has magic hairs!

Original PC shot for comparison.

Why is there a patch of high resolution road textures following the car around. You can see it clearly when it's in car footage (over the bonnet) ... and it's a square of textures that just ends abruptly in the front. It looks very odd:

Lack of high quality aniso-filtering.

Insane For Sony
Well here you go. Here's the direct feed of crappy youtube quality. There definitely is some aliasing, but I find it difficult to think there is no AA. I would imagine the IQ would be completely destroyed without it. The cockpit looks smooth.
1080p Looks pretty good even with no AA. Especially when there's HDR bloom and some motion blur added, like there's almost always in a racer.

I stopped hating indies after playing Hotline Miami.
Now i believe. Honestly, Limbo left impression on my brain

impression = glowing worm?

Agreed. I don't know. Wish we could download the latest direct feed footage so that we can definitively conclude that it has no AA. At this point, somehow it feels like saying there is no AA is as much a guess as saying there is some AA. Has anyone tweeted Dan Greenawalt about it?

Check this video. Tell me what that fixed shadow under the car is. The whole car's shadow moves when the car turns, but there is some other shadow that is glued underneath the car. I asked this in the forza thread and no one responded. I still can't figure out how that would happen!

The Xbox One can render games at 1080p, just look at Forza 5. The question is how many concessions have been made to hit that resolution. In the case of Forza it doesn't have dynamic lighting and some other features found in other 1080p titles.

Developers can definitely make 1080p titles, they just have to sacrifice some other things to do it.

Edit: BTW, Cloud computing being used to help a console's performance ain't happening for a long time. The latency on that stuff makes it unfeasible for that kind of use.

Yes, the Xbone is capable of native 1080p...there is no question about that...but you have to look deeper than that...

The PS3 and 360 are capable of 1080p....the Wii is capable of 1080p..the question becomes...what sacrifices must you make to get there?

I am confident that the Xbone is NOT capable of matching the PS4 in like for like games at native 1080p...what I mean by this is if you have a multiplat game...running at 1080p on both consoles...you're going to have to make concessions on the Xbone version...

-lower quality textures
-lower frame rate
-less advanced lighting
-less aggressive(maybe no) AA
-lower quality shadows
-less particle effects

Etc...

This is why we are going to see the Xbone running games at lower resolutions...because the devs are going to want to keep the eye candy the same...so you drop resolution and upscale...

I don't think IW is being lazy...they are doing what they can with less powerful, more complicated hardware that has development tools that are less mature...

This will NOT (IMO) be made up for by esRAM or cloud computing...

The esRAM is a bandaid solution to try and make up for the slow memory bandwidth of the DDR3 memory...its also a bottleneck because its not big enough to do everything developers want to do with it...

These. To perfectly have games in Native 1080p & 60 FPS without making any sacrifices, you gotta have beefier hardware in order to achieve them both, better GPU, better CPU, bigger RAM, everything.

It's just a low quality implementation of Ambient Occlusion.

Neat, this video shows some dynamic shadows being cast by the environment. Obvious shadow cascades at the start and they are cast on the car.

Looks like it features barely any AF though which is kind of shocking for a 2013 next gen exclusive.

Nothing particularly low quality about it. Dark ambient blobs appear under cars in real life!
