They open arguing that Persona 5's weakness is familiarity and close saying it is "simply put, cool". The format of a school year means it lacks surprise. The changes to dungeons from Persona 4 to 5 may have already been seen in Tokyo Mirage Sessions. While there is a change in pace to the dungeons because of stealth and dialogue in battle, its strength remains in the social simulator and side activities.
"A creeping subtext about the importance of a stable family life [...] is less succesful, making a stuffily old-fashioned point about the nuclear family that seems at odds with the game's attempt to celebrate rather than demean."
There are things I don't understand here. Isn't a 8 in EDGE quite good or have they relaxed their standards? Isn't a 80+ in Metacritic a sign of a great game? Nioh, Nier and Horizon are 89, should I pass on them then?
Great score for persona from Edge, considering an 8 on their scale is a 9 or 10 from most other publications.
4/10 for Bombermban? Is that game really devoid of content or something? I thought it was pretty fun playing with friends but we WERE curious if there were unlockable modes.

it's strange they didn't have ME:A as a review in it yet, Edge is a monthly magazine, is it not?

I don't agree with those scores, Nier and Persona 5 are way underrated, 9 would be the least those games deserve but I guess we can forget Persona 5 being a 95% title over at MC already :/
You sir, are crazy, comparing 5-hour Snipperclips with 150-hour Persona 5. It will reach at least a 90 on Meta, just wait and see.
The only thing GAF hates more than inflated review scores is uninflated ones.
Issue probably went to print the second week of March to reach subscribers today. Isn't always enough time.it's strange they didn't have ME:A as a review in it yet, Edge is a monthly magazine, is it not?
I missed their Mass Effect score. Could anyone could tell me what they gave that game?
Cover. Thanks to RLLMUK forum.
8 is a fantastic score in this magazine. Why the drama?
Only an 8 for Persona 5 kinda rubbs me the wrong way. Need to know the reasoning.
Zelda inflated score expectations
It is, but it's possible they didn't get a review copy or they didn't get said review copy early enough.
Same score For Honor than Nier Persona 5? ok...
What a joke.
It must be a tough game to review though. This video highlights the problem perfectly imo. An undeniably broken and bug ridden game, with quest designs universally hated (escort someone? Yay...) and without even fleshing out those quests with rich characters or writing to make up for it. Bad quests, with broken AI.
But at the same time, LOOK HOW MUCH FUN THESE GUYS ARE HAVING =D And that's the part Wildlands nails. It gives players a really rich toolset of options and mechanics to play around with to create their own fun, because the core game itself certainly isn't going to provide any. But how do you review that? It's like you need two separate reviews: one for people who plan to play with friends, and another for those who plan to play solo.

For Honor an 8?
ok
4 for Wildlands seems right, beta was hot garbage
I thought wild lands was janky asf in beta but I would still rate it higher than a 4, jeez. Lol.
ITT: People in this thread not realizing that For Honor is a mechanically legit-good game.
Can't wait for Persona 5 baybee.
Nice, looks like I can skip P5. Saved me a few bucks there, Edge. Good lookin out.
As someone who played Persona 5 last year and considered it the best game I'd played in TEN YEARS, an 8 is criminal. Boo this magazine.
Look past the buzz and it's the predictable score. It's the latest major JRPG from a reputable developer, it's a normal score and they usually got 8s when they were more common during the PS2 days (and even on handheld!)Only an 8 for Persona 5 kinda rubbs me the wrong way. Need to know the reasoning.
P5 got a lower score because there are some aspects of it that are less than perfect.
It's not a big deal. 8 is still very good.
RIP Nier's 89.
