Is it time for this again?
A few people on the first few pages having no clue about basic tech stuff isn't a meltdown
Is it time for this again?
This thing does not sound good.
The Switch is shaping really well.
Who? Any links?
I dont know what the hell I was thinking hoping Nintendo would finally stop with their always 1 generation behind stuff and at least have a full hd screen. If when docked it has trouble hitting 1080p, will probably skip this Nintendo release for a while.
Seems like they are focusing more on the graduating 3DS gamer than a home console one.
Price would have to be really low for me to get one even for my kids.
900p/60 with nice image quality is a compromise I would accept.Interesting
If I had to guess majority of games will be be either 720p with better affect or 900p when the Switch is docked. Obviously there will be some exceptions like Smash Bros being 1080p and other less demanding games and last gen ports.
I expect GAF to be upset about lack of 1080p games on Switch when docked.
720p device releasing in 2017? You're kidding me, right?
Even if that is serviceable, people know what resolutions are these days and that won't be seen as a good thing in the eyes of the masses.
The PS4 has trouble hitting 1080p.
That's over double the resolution of 720p. Don't expect much in the stand. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
We don't know that. There's no reason to expect secret sauce in the stand. Sure, an overclock is likely when not on battery power (since the fan will now be able to run or run at console speeds) but there's no reason to go KINECT SECOND GPU SECRET SAUCE right now.
Here's Pokemon ORAS natively rendered in HD (with some graphical fixes):

And here's your typical Pokemon model:
It don't need anything special in the dock to make 1080p games.
Not even close to being true. The PS4 has trouble hitting 1080p.
Humm....I think that Nintendo is going to sell a supplemental device (Plugged to the docking station) to increase the graphics capabilities of the Switch... Mark this post.Nice.
Also the unique thing of this device has yet to come : https://mynintendonews.com/2016/10/...witch-accessories-and-add-on-hardware-coming/

Splatoon won't be the same without dual screens
Not bad not bad.
What was the second screen used for?
6.2" ..... at 720p...... 2017 and forwards....ew!
OhmyGod is this for Real!?720p device releasing in 2017? You're kidding me, right?

I didn't say match the PS4, just near it, at least higher than the WiiU
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's possible there could be a major overclock and I'm sure that's the only thing the stand would do is provide power and a safe spot for ventilation. Nothing in the dock...but some people are expecting secret sauce in the dock I'm sure...
Don't expect Xbox One-level capabilities from this thing without evidence, Xbox One being a system that already had problems with 1080p on more visually complex titles.
Even the OG PS4 which is a little beefier than the Xbox One doesn't have 1080p for every game..
You're putting yourself up for disappointment
Some people think Smash Bros for Wii U which was 1080p will be 720p on the Switch when docked
I think it's more likely that Nintendo won't allow anything which only works with multi-touch.IR though is gonna gimp any multi-touch capability of the portable. You can only interact with one point using an IR pointer. I fear we may see some fencing of "portable only" and "dock only" apps/functionality.
Yeah, that was Laura's rumor- that the Switch will have increased performance when docked. People in this thread are being willfully ignorant it seems.
Some 3rd party games do the 900p/60fps thing but this is the outlier.
I really can't believe that we are arguing over whether or not a brand new console released NEXT year is 1080p capable. Only Nintendo...

You clearly know very little of the PS4.
Some people are arguing. I'm telling you people over and over that it is capable. Trust me.
if the screen is multi-touch, how would you play it if it is docked?
I would assume all games will be designed to not require touch input.if the screen is multi-touch, how would you play it if it is docked?
IR Sensor... Does that mean we can play Wii games?

Why? Who are you and why should I trust you?
