The problem is, this is nothing new. It's seemingly expensive, proprietary (like the WiiU gamepad, probably won't be sold separately in the states) and touch overlays have been done on smartphones with emulators since smartphones had touchscreens. With no d-pad, you can say goodbye to sidescrollers and with no pivoted edges on the analog (hopefully only due to prototype), you can say goodbye to any analog precision.

Never change, Nintendo.

Wouldn't be the first time early Nintendo hardware had the "wrong" analogue sticks for a console.

I think it was FourthStorm who made a good point about these sticks looking super clickable and squishy, which would be beneficial given the lack of physical buttons.

Will be interesting to see if the reddit guy provides another picture or video of this thing like he said if this is indeed real. (unless the ninjas are already after him)

I think most folks here are upset because they wanted a regular video game box with a lot of power but who's to say this can't also be that?

But touchscreen buttons? Nah, just nah. That's the worst of all worlds.
Amazing how people change their views when their favorite company is involved. 😏
Up until now, all I've heard is that mobile gaming is a joke(despite plenty of fantastic games) for the lack of physical buttons.

It might have advanced haptics, like the Steam Controller.

But the steam controller has real buttons as well.

Why do people think haptics are going to save screen buttons? Have you actually used them to exclusively to play a game? It's terrible.

Maybe the haptic feedback is good enough. Being able to make up new buttons depending on the game sounds good. But, the point of the post was that we just don't know how it'll be handled

No it's not good enough. It'll never replace the accuracy and feeling of a button.
Heck, what about the dpad ?

Is Nintendo really dumb enough to cut the main inputs on their controller ?

chill man you're not missing out on anything

I know what the HEX means. But it's unclear if he meant it shouldn't have been exposed because it's an outdated prototype or if it's the real thing.

If he knows something he might as well just say it or shut up.

Atleast in terms of third party content, we're going to see a whole lot of mobile games on this device.

I'm wondering if this is the N console controller or handheld, and or both at the same time. I can imagine this being a console controller with handheld functionality but You will probably need to buy the console separately.

Yes - it's real. I trust rosti enough and was already leaning to it not being fake. It had too much of all the patents included and looked too much like a real dev unit compared to most fakes that look like a consumer grade product.

Hope it's the handheld.

If he's under NDA, he doesn't have to say anything more. It's not a big deal. Should he have posted anything to begin with? Probably not.

Also: It might be a joke, so it doesn't matter anyway.

He just confirmed it to be real, whatever it is. That's good enough for me.

Regardless of the antiquity of the prototype, is the closest thing we have of NX

We know what they are going for atleast. Even if it is outdated, I am excited about the possibilities.

Well, all we know from the R-man is that it's a real something or other. Whether it's a devkit, prototype, or final product is anyone's guess.

If it's the handheld, it's dead on arrival.
What's the appeal in this ?
This is the very definition of gimmick.

So some random guy on Reddit might just have leaked Nintendo's biggest guarded secret.
Even tough, it's still just a part of the full picture and we don't know how games will run on it.

Assuming it's real and a devkit, I'd like the consumer version to be black - it would look better with the screen. I'm also not sure if the mentioned cover would look good.

Rösti is clearly fucking with us by posting such a vague comment, he's probably sitting back laughing at the reactions and loving the attention.

Assuming Rosti's in the know and this has some semblance of truth (even if it's just an early prototype/concept) then Ninty's done lost its mind.

:(

Again, we don't know how it'll be handled or if this is the final device if it's real.
I don't think Nintendo would release a device whose controller wouldn't work for Mario or Zelda. Heck, the patent specifically references Zelda.

Considering there are no grips on this thing, and Nintendo have a history with add-ons, I'm willing to be that we are missing something from the equation. We discussed in the other threads an attachment like the Circle Pad Pro that adds grips and physical buttons. Why not?

Even if it's a prototype, it must be fairly indicative of the end functionality.
