Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Debut Trailer [Update: Leaked Screenshots In OP]

It really doesn't need a reboot, I hate when people say this.
And when people are like "oh, the gameplay needs to be changed" Why does it need to change? People like the current Assassin's Creed gameplay. Sure there are a few things they can improve, but other than that I think the core gameplay is fine.

I think what the series needs more than anything is a bit of a break. Have a smaller, dedicated team work on building an installment for the ground up for next gen with a new story and an exciting setting. Have it be a more cohesive design than just having 600 people work on various parts and put it together.

Seriously, whomever creates the costume of the main character in the Assassins Creed games has the easiest job. Its the same damned thing. Blah.

Same for the core gameplay.

helped a brotha out on multiple separate occasions!
The Live logo is always there.

It's just a bit weird that the Live logo is there and the PSN one is missing. They usually put both of them or neither one right?

Because the gameplay is really bad...
Hold A to platform automatically and shallow dull combat, assassin's creed was a chore to play and then for some reason they made like 5 more of them....
They should aim higher with the gameplay, a LOT higher.

Marketing is the only reason this is popular, the first game wasnt heavily marketed and it bombed critically.

Ok! I'm back on board! That trailer looked awesome. I want to see some next gen footage.

I'm guessing it's either

1. Just a mistake and forgot to put it there

or

2. A name change is going to happen to PSN

Holy hell that looked amazing. Assassin's Creed 3 was a huge letdown for me, and the setting didn't really do much for me (which is why I rented instead of bought it), but this game looks to hit all the right notes.

wouldnt touch the PS3/360 version with a bargepole, playing AC3 at launch on current consoles was probably one of the worst experiences i've had this generation.

will wait patiently for pc this time

Man, I can't wait to see what it looks like on next-gen stuff. I'm liking the theme so far. Even if though they didn't really show too much.

I'm picking it up on PS4, can't wait to see what next gen AC looks like.

AC3 was a buggy mess on current gen consoles though, you're right.

I've seen the PSN logo there sometimes and not there other times. The Live logo is always there though.

AC III on PS3 was horrible, when I learned the 'exclusive content' was also on PC, I was pretty angry. I may just get this for PS4 or PC.

It could be as simple as the they already had 2 Playstation related logos and didn't want 3 as opposed to only 2 Xbox ones...

I think you guys are slightly over-thinking this. Just a tad.

Kind of imagine PS4/Nextbox version of AC4 will just be similar the PC version, AC3 did run and look quite good on PC though.

Um no it didn't its sold over 6 million units

You don't like the game that is fine. Guess what a good few million people do like they game and that is why it continues to sell.

If we are going to talk about what critics reaction to the game was then it holds 81 on metacritic which is still a solid score.

I struggle to see how you can create a correlation between Critical reception and marketing.

That will be my strategy as well.

It's strange that AC3 runs so badly on the consoles when Brotherhood and Revelations looked pretty damn good without nearly much texture popping and horrible view distance. And don't get me started on that yoyo frame rate in AC3... Sometimes I feel like the developers tried to ruin the game on purpose.

Microsoft has put the Live logo on things with no connectivity whatsoever, PSN usually shows up on games with connectivity/online play. Could be missing due to no multilayer being show yet, but MS mandating it.

I'd like it more if it was just an open world pirate game, and not an Assassin's Creed game. Because then you're bogged down by a shitty modern story, ridiculously easy difficulty, and simple freerunning and combat.

Unfortutanely this game won't show how a next gen AC looks like.
It will be the PC version at 1080p, max details. It will look better than the PS3 version but not in any relevant way. Also keep in mind that the game is being created with the same old engine and it's an annual sequel.

ACIII stunk, at least the character appears to be a lot more interesting than Connor. It looks like they have reverted to the whole slick killer ladies man type persona that worked so well with Ezio after Connor was an utter bore the whole game through.

Will remain cautiously optimistic and look forward to info on Monday. AC3 was a dreadful experience for me. Hopefully this is discounted on Black Friday like the last few of them.

Well, I'm in, Pirates, open world, hopefully building on what was already solid sea battle mechanics.

If they add a build your own flleet/capture ships/modify them in a variety of ways i.e for boarding, speed, or gun power...Day 1.

How bad is it that I just want the theme for Pirates of the Caribbean to kick in midway through the trailer?

Damn, that first movie was good.

im guessing this was developed side by side with AC3. if so, they must have thrown connor under the bus very early in development, in favor of this dude. pretty funny

I'm guessing they started on this one once the mechanics of the ship fights of AC3 where up and running

Man alive, if it's going to have one more version on top of all the platforms the very bug-ridden AC3 came on I can't even imagine how bad this is going to be.

Man, I don't think Ubisoft will ever top the Brotherhood and Revelations CGI trailers. Graphically they may have, but not in the presentation. It was great, but it doesn't excite me as the previous games. Damn, AC3 really left me that bitter with the franchise.

^ I do like his face design. He looks appropriate in a Pirate environment, a leader who looks cunning and fitting for the setting.. If we stick with him as he gets older in the game I hope he gets more Piratey looking as it goes on.

Actual AC3 Spoiler:
Did Haytham said that his father was killed when he was young? So unless he had Haytham when he was about 60, I don't think we'll see him age that much as we did with Ezio.

Can you really debate that?

Costume design is hard as hell, especially when it has to be; realistic, subtle yet familiar. Having to reflect the time period, incorporate a solid silhouette that is easily identifiable yet at the same time recognizable as connected to past assassins but dissociated with their style is insanely tough. Also, Ezio and Connor's costumes are fucking beautifully done. They all look similar solely because of the hood, since the head is the central spot most people focus and they are kind of stuck with that design because that's the recognizable feature the series has in common.

Plus with Connor, blending his native american heritage into a colonial garb that blends in with the average person, yet stands out and identifies him with another group and at the same time showing his neutrality and physical ability is also tough. The similar hood is a bit cheap and I'd like to see it incorporated someway else, but they are kind of stuck with that design decision now.
