Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Debut Trailer [Update: Leaked Screenshots In OP]

The main character looks so uninspired. He's just a generic Assassin's Creed assassin in a pirate setting. How boring is that? Give him an eye patch (they could do some cool Eagle Vision stuff with it), a hook for a hand (you can still climb, zipline, and even fight with it - give a whole new meaning to the hook blade), a peg leg - at the very least give the man a beard! Have some fun with it, ffs.

I beg to differ. I think that the character has an air of mystique and I'm excited to see how his story will unfold. I still feel that Connor cold have been better if the story was developed better. I just hope they take this new character's story to the peaks that it could achieve.

What if this Edward Kenway gets somehow mauled in the first memory sequence and for the rest of the game will look like a scarred badass?

We really haven't seen anything yet :)

The possibility of this being a Wind Waker-style open-world game where you sail between islands, port cities, and rain forests in real time is still enough for me to at least give this a GameFly rental and later a Steam sale purchase if it turns out to be what I want it to be.

A generic white guy in generic Assassin garb is the exact opposite of intriguing to me.

We can only hope. I also want to see a parrot perched on his shoulder at some point in the game.

I like pirates so this game got me excited.

That sounded pretty dirty but that trailer looked pretty well done

I dont know about you but the detail was so good.

God's had his chance.
Pretty fuckin cool. If this is a legit open world/open water game... and they give you a pirate island/cove to upgrade along with your ship and possibly fleet of ships/crew them I don't even have a choice. I have to buy this game. Basically what i've been dreaming about for years.

And on top of that.. i get to be a death assassin murder machine that boards ships and hides treasure and nails wenches?? fuckin sold.

Still tho ... the Cello trailer will forever be my favorite.

An in-gameplay trailer with a really dark and broody pirate song being sung in the background that builds to a crescendo of all your cannons firing at the very end would have done a lot more to get peoples blood pumping for this new entry.

wow only took a year for a full numbered SQL to be developed. There is no chance this will fix the problems in this franchise.

Considering the best two games in the franchise were 1 year after the last game? I'd say it has a decent chance.

Maybe AC3 only sucked because they had too much time /cringe/hope.

I'm psyched! but nervous

i still want them to overhaul the free running but they wont since that's too hard.

I'm with you 100%.

I do not care what so ever what Abstergo, or the remaining Assassin's in modern day are doing. Never have and it's only gotten worse every game.

I really liked what they were doing in Brotherhood. Felt really cool to have that lair in the modern version of the Ezio estate.

Yeah as the games have moved more towards free running and less climbing and jumping on rooftops, I think they need to overhaul it a bit.

The free running in the Watch Dogs demo at the PS4 announcement was smooth as hell, and I think that it's running on a variant of the same engine that AC is on, I have hopes that the free running in AC will improve significantly.

I remain unimpressed. This game better shake up the fucking franchise and it's gameplay completely this time.

Ha, with how fast they jump to the next game I doubt they even give them selves enough time to even think of how they could shake up the franchise..

Yeah. Great design takes time, no one can find faults when production is the size of AC. It's too big and too fast.

I think it looks cool, AC games always have interesting settings. Sadly I found AC1 offensively bad, so never actually have an interest in playing the games.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
That got me hyped. I'm ready for some pirate assassins.

No bald cap? Lies!
My dream, and I know it's very much a dream, would be basically be Age of Pirates: Assassin's Creed edition. I want the depth, scale and freedom of AoP but with the fidelity and quality of AC, especially when it comes to the land sections, though those would only be like 30-40% of the game.

It would be awesome for each little port city to have the detail and freedom to explore that AC provides, but still have the vast control over your crew and ship that AoP offers, along with the massive world with so many towns and areas.

Though I'm sure this will just be AC3: More Boats Edition. But hopefully Ubi will surprise me.

Isn't a hood the stupidest thing you can wear as an assassin? Hey, let's cut off all my peripheral vision.

You call him uninspired but then you want generic pirate? How about a a parrot on his shoulder too. They can make a eagle/parrot vision. Send the parrot out to scout distance ships on the horizon.

Beat me too it.

I wasn't speaking of his design or overall look. I was speaking of how Blackbeard spoke of his lore to the other pirates. His design, to me, seem to fit the overall demeanor that Blackbeard spoke of: A powerful person who blends in a crowd but fights with amazing strength. He looks similar to the other assassins, I do agree but if he was that elaborately dressed, his ninja-like abilities could be compromised (and some people would complain about it being too different).

A design can grow on you but if the story is great or at least interesting, You can forgive the character for not being the coolest looking thing in gaming.

That would be sweet! The easily bored fan base will kill it though, it will have instant travel everywhere making sailing useless.

But yea, this seems like it will be an open world pirate game. I'd love if you would have to dock your boat correctly and board it every time, but it'll most likely be a "TRAVEL TO BOAT" option in the menu's.

Yep. It's rare for those that complain about design, have any concept of what it involves and never have a better solution.

I wonder if it will be a little bit like Wind Waker and you'll get to sail your ship around the Indies finding new islands and stuff... Hah, better not kid myself, moving between islands will be cut scenes.

You like me, you really really like me!
After playing ACIII, there's no way in hell I'm touching another game in this franchise unless it's given to me for free.

I lol'ed at the fact that "Next-gen consoles" is mentioned in an official trailer. Just spill the beans already, Microsoft.

Blackbeard was only active as a captain for 2 years, so I wonder if they'll take liberties with history, or if that even was Blackbeard.

It's even more funnier how both Wii U and PS4 are listed and it says "also coming to next gen systems"

So...Xbox 720 and Steambox the only next gen systems confirmed?

Just kidding, still funny though

Just for the record, the Animus is factor of this game.. that's where that first screenshot came from (why it was blurry) . Not sure who the main "modern" character is though. That leaked screenshot was also from an earlier build.

I'm surprised they jumped to 4 so soon. Heh but then is still only through 2.

They're trying to fight against brand fatigue at a marketing level. A lot of people are just bored with the series at this point. They know that coming out with an other spin off would sink the interest even further.
The number 4 sends the message that it's a very important title in the series and people should pay attention to it (even if it's not).
Also in the CG trailer you can notice that they decided to immediatly unveil the new assassin. That's an other signal that they believe they can't afford the "just hint and let people wait" strategy anymore, they have to be more aggressive in trying to create interest around the game.

From 1716-1718. What year does this take place? (Sorry, I haven't played an AC since Brotherhood.)

Yeah, Andrea Rene was saying on this weeks' Weekend Confirmed that the direction they went with that stuff for this game seems lazy. I'd rather not have it all.

I think YOU the player are the modern day character. Playing a product distributed by Abstergo.
