Steins gate 0 coming to the west

It's not a question of qualification. They did a great job on the original and clearly wanted to do 0. It smacks of disrespect.

What an utterly bizarre stance to hold. Publishers are under no obligation to hire fan translators. Even JAST redid large amounts of the script for the first game.

Did it ever cross their mind that those guys put a ton of work into the game and were part of its success? And now that it's big they're like 'well, we don't need you guys anymore'.

What's bizarre about finding this disrespectful? You have perfectly capable translators who know the source material and want to help. Use them.

I know for sure on the first, I assume so on the second.

Yeah, I don't see why they should be forced into using a fan group for whom they have no control over when they can hire a full time translator (or use an existing employee in their company).

Loved the game although only played through it once. Ending I got was a bit meh and I never bothered to play again doing whatever a guide requires for the true ending.

Then watched the anime and loved it even more. Dub was really good.

One of my favourite universes.

Will get the Vita version for in bed glorious OLED VN playing.

Who said anything about being forced to? I'm sure the original team would have been happy to help in any capacity, but it was made clear they weren't wanted at all. At very least they could have helped with editing or SOMETHING.

They got paid for their work, they don't get some right of refusal for everything related to the franchise. They aren't owed anything and there is no disrespect to be had. This isn't even from the same publisher who worked with them for the first game.

I completely disagree, I'll leave it at that.

It's one thing to use a pre-existing fan translation and adapt it to be used in a final product.

It's completely different to actively incorporate a third party into the development of a new product. These are individuals for which the publisher has no real control over. What happens if they take way too long to do something or they cease contact for whatever reason? What happens if their translation style is completely different from what the publisher wants? The publisher is beholden to a very specific timeline and budget, and using a fan group could very easily screw this up.

I'm pretty excited for all of those releases! Psycho-Pass will probably turn out to be a serviceable affair at best, but I enjoyed the first season enough to give it a purchase. Aren't physical copies of Muv-Luv locked behind the Kickstarter campaign? I've heard numerous praise for the franchise, but I can't seem to enjoy any visual novels that had pornographic origins after giving Song of Saya and Katawa Shoujo an opportunity before leaving disappointed with the narrative quality in both works. I'll confess they attempted to make the sex scenes relevant to their stories to a degree yet the pacing suffers notable to facilitate pure fan service in the grand scheme. I'm aware the Vita version will be neutered in that regard, but I'm sure the undertone of those nixed scenes will continue to relevant in an "off-screen" manner.

Well, Saya no Uta is from the same guy who did Psycho-Pass 1 and Katawa Shoujo was made by a bunch of 4channers in their free time. (Come on, some routes were good)

Muv-Luv should be something like Fate/stay night, a VN that happens to have porn in it.

Also speaking of which, is it worth replaying the whole game if I got a different ending? I mean, apparently I missed like the whole rest of the game due to a choice or two

You only need to replay the game to get the true ending, everything else branches off a decision point that you should have an autosave for.

That's some exciting news!

I was surprised when it was announced that we'd finally be getting the original Steins;Gate, and didn't dare to hope we'd get anything more than that. But here we are, getting 0. Things really are starting to look promising for the visual novel genre in the west, and that makes me quite the happy man.

All that being said, I still need to get around to actually playing the original! I've seen the anime/movie, and bought the game awhile ago, but never got around to playing it. This news has definitely motivated me to bump it way up the list!

Finally! I imported the Japanese version for the Vita because I couldn't wait anymore but it's too high level for my current comprehension skills. :D
 
LE is 99.999% happening. This is PQube, who made an LE for GalGun and included a pair of panties.

They're awesome

also they have their own store which makes distribution easy and LEs extremely lucrative

You make it sound like they weren't a part of the official localization editing team.
Can't find the localization staff names in the in game credits which is weird, but the image is from BW blog.

The kerning in the PS3 version was pretty bad sometimes, and the phone messages had words cut off and start on another line, neither of which problems were in the JAST version. The translation didn't seem as good as the JAST PC version, either, but that might just be personal preference.

And keming and the phone messages are really minor issues.
 
Summer means you are going agonist zero escape 3.

That's still better than going up against the AAA games. Don't forget Zero Escape as much as I love the two games, isn't a big franchise at all.

Wanted to mention this now in case I forget posting it when the game's actually out: Do not go to Zero before you've read or at least watched the original S;G. It basically starts with the ending of S;G. The first few screens alone are a massive spoiler.

It's ostensibly still the same engine as used for the console releases of S;G, and IIRC Western text does have this issue in the Japanese release of Zero (at least on PS3). Maybe they have a branch for future Western releases, but I doubt it. It's not like it's really a big deal though.

Love zero escape, but zero escape 3 barely got made and was a dead thing for a decent bit. VNs arent exactly a common thing over here, there's room for both especially if there's like a month gap between.

Would love for a july release though. At the moment, that month was looking like a recovery from june month and a backlog month.

Anime News Network posted (before 0 was officially announced for loc) that several Spanish sites listed an August 26th release date.

Pinch of salt and all that but I guess it's good to keep in mind until the date is announced.

Yeah from what I know it was the exact same bar any changes required by Sony for submission (could be wrong though).

Seeing as how this will be a new translation specifically for this console release of SG0 it should be fairly different in regard to those things, but I've not seen any English footage of the game yet.
