NeoGAF, welcome to .webm - the FUTURE (of burning out your CPU)

What is this trickery!

So nice that webm let's you step in frame by frame, without other software.

seriously. it's something i tried to do in youtube but it wouldn't.

by the way.......GAF, let's give andrex more reviews in the chrome store! He deserves it.]

I TRULY look forward to near 1 click programs to make webms....so that many many more Gaffers can make them. Before making high quality custom gifs was too big a pain in the ass for many users, now we can see the creative works of tons more gaffers.

A new golden age is upon us.

So is WIF official now? :D I like the word

And what do our GAF mods and admins say

Don't let those weebum-plebs win! #TeamWif has to stick together to fight the good fight!

Okay, I found the first disadvantage :/ You can't reverse-search wifs like gifs anymore, which was pretty useful for me on many occasions.

This could be very bad for movie industry.

Spoilers would ruin a film for many ppl who can't help themselves to a click away or someone to post one in a forum straight away on films release.

I expect forums will be having new rules added from pressure from the movie industry.

If you can't help yourself, probably should avoid forums.

that puzzling face
No different from GIF of the same thing. It all boils back down to people not being dumb shits, and has little to do with the technology involved.

How is that different from a gif?

Holy shit, Sunhi has graced us with this talent! Amazingggggggggggggg

Also, the WebM extension for Firefox will make me try FF again in many years, thanks.

Shitty hosts or shitty format?

Most of these things play faster than they load.
I have this problem with any of them that have sound. And the sound balloons the file size considerably. If we want this to replace GIFs, we should be making soundless webms.

Alot of people are posting ridiculously large files with high resolution and bit rate. The smaller ones load almost instantly for me.

If these ever get the go for embedding on GAF, there needs to be some kind of way to tell how big they are. It's great that people post wifs of games in great detail, but not everyone wants to open a gigantic video when a modest 360p one will suffice.

these have sound option.

Ridiculously smaller in size compared to gifs. It will balloon. Circumvent youtube 30 second trailers/jokes/virals etc. No ad revenue for them.

I can see copyright holders right now, like:

giphy.gif

forums in general will have rules added, if anything, regarding spoilers.

We need to give these an official 2014 WebM OT. This needs to be kept alive for the good of all of us.

Or put these in GIF threads and link back here.

SERIOUSLY if this is forgotten and GIFs are still here, we should be ashamed. This needs to be picked up big time.

I demand a topic dedicated to posting beautiful game .webm's as soon as possible, this is glorious.

Now that I see the comparisons with GIF, I can't help but think that it's also the perfect metaphor for what it feels like to go from a (last-gen) console to a PC for the first time in terms of IQ and framerate.

has anyone found a tv show/movie uploaded in this format? I feel like there should/could be a website to string together multiple uploads into a full show/movie

(please, someone dev it)

Some of the videos do not work when quoted. Any ideas why? Is it just me?

For example - my Uncharted webm on this page works on my post, but it does not work quoted few posts down. I am confused.

Yeah, dunno. I think the browser's loading them separately for some reason? It seems to be worse for larger (MB) videos.

GAF is known for their E3 gifs. This will change everything.

However... I do wonder about the impact on people who don't know to install the add-ons for this. If I were to hop into an E3 thread and all I saw were just links and not actual videos, some of the impact would be lost.
