'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

Thats because youtube sucks. Look at MGSV demo on gamersyde... see it on your tv and its like you are playing the game. The quality is almost flawless. Certainly does the game all the justice (at least visually) it can be made.

But what's the point of making and releasing that demo exclusively on gamersyde if only a small subset of hardcore gamers, who already comprehend the improvements without seeing them, would watch it?

Your reasoning makes no sense, I'm sorry. You just want to see gameplay and you're upset. I wouldn't mind a Gamersyde video either but I've already beaten the game and I can understand what will be better about this Remaster so I don't need to see anything.

I'm not "worried".

What isn't included in the multiplayer that I will have to pay for on day one? Since it says that PS3 users have access to stuff that I won't without DLC?

For someone who's not played this, what's Focus? Am I right to understand it's a chargeable function that lets you see enemy movement through walls or something, kinda like Splinter Cell's sonar goggles?

If so, I can understand why it's best to turn it off. Surprised they added it; sounds like quite an atmosphere detraction.
Yeah, that's exactly what it is. They had to tack in on late in development because some people wouldn't have headphones or surround sound systems to support the situational awareness the audio affords you. If you can use those, do it. You can tell where enemies are all the time just from audio clues.

Ah, cool, yeah that's better. Does it support 7.1?

2. You, AND EVERYBODY ELSE, who didn't take the plunge into MP owes it to themselves to do so this time around at 60fps. I am a competitive focussed player, not pro or obsessive, but I love social contest - and this game is my MP of the last 5 years. It is intensely tactical, cooperative, credible, stressful, real, in all the ways that countless military shooters claim to be, and this is not one of those. In terms of references: Gears of War for it's small team 3rd person arena combination with strategy, emphasis on revives and following-through with executions, teamplay. It moves like nothing else, so fluid traversal, your avatar touching and connecting with the world, and the pace is forced to a more gradual, considered, cagey rhythm which I adore. Maybe more Splinter Cell, or Day Z.. life is precious and all of the values of SP carry over. Listen Mode is your radar, that makes careless players lighthouses, and stealthy ones predators. It is beautiful to have matches erupt into occasional crescendo firefights that ebb and flow and dissipate as the stakes get too high. TRY IT. You will get butchered at first, I did, there will be dozens of seasoned players returning. But skill is the only advantage, it is balanced. You will find your own style, and love will ensue. At least play yourself through 12 weeks of getting your head caved in, and by then you'll know..

Truer words have never been spoken, and coincidentally exactly describes the kind of gamer that I am: not pro, but I enjoy competitive games and this game is by far the best in competitive MP that has come out in the last few years. Your description is mind-blowingly accurate, so I won't elaborate further.

Can't wait to sink my teeth into this game again on the 29th. I play more on Xbox but TLoU was my favorite game last year and it can only get better with a solid framerate and 1080p at that. :)

If you play multiplayer be sure to play the Survivor mode. No respawn, best of seven, addicting, intense, and so much fun. Great Community as well there. A lot of great moments happen as well. Oh crap I am the last guy better grab a box, sweet molotovs, machete, bombs time to bunker down. And if you sucked the first few rounds, it's ok you will get a pity box complete with enough stuff to make a molotov, a bomb, a first aid kit, etc to get you back in the game.

This sounds great. There hasn't been a game since the original Gears of War that really captivated me multiplayer wise. Heck, hardly any multiplayer games even have a system where dying really matters. It's like playing poker for fake money, no one cares about playing like a jackass and it completely changes the dynamic. Really looking forward to digging into this. Thanks for the great write up.

Still can't decide what difficulty I wanna play this on my first time through.

It depends on how you want to approach the game. If you are going to approach enemies slowly and methodically, relying on stealth and silent takedowns, I think hard, or even survivor is the best way to experience the game. Even then, you will likely have an abundance of ammo.

If you are more inclined to shoot it out, then normal might be better, depending on how good a shot you are. I would personally recommend people at least try the game on hard though. You can change the difficulty to normal or easy at any point if you hit a brick wall.

Also, count me in as someone excited for the multiplayer. Loved the admittedly short time I put into the PS3 multiplayer, and can't wait to dive in for the PS4.

Warning to all who play SP without Focus when you play MP you will find it to be even more of an alien concept. That being said its a hurdle that can be dealt with.

To be honest I played it for the first time on normal and loved every second of it. It was only when I started on hard that I really realised just how amazing this game is.

Awesome game on any setting but it just felt that much more intense on the harder difficulty.

I'm very excited to give the multiplayer another try at 60fps. I played it for a couple of hours when it came out, but didn't get too deep into it for whatever reason, it was pretty fun.

Hard, turn off listen mode.

You're welcome.

I'm so excited for this game! I've played through the original PS3 version several times but I've never turned "listen mode" off. I think I'll give that a try with the Remastered version!

Hats, and a few weapons and loadout skills. The weapons and loadout skills can be used in the pre-made loadouts available to everyone, but to use them in custom loadouts you would need to buy them. My advice would be to try out a few of the pre-made loadouts to test out some of the dlc weapons and skills to see if you want to purchase any of them. Do not worry about being at a disadvantage though if you don't buy them as the dlc weapons and skills do not bring any balance issues.

Serious?

Well then Hard listen mode off right?

Damn..

I agree with the other poster, as long as you are willing to buy into the stealth aspects of the game Hard with listen mode off is the best way to start. Survivor then for your second playthrough, then you will still have Grounded after that.

Quick Random question on Retail version of The Last of Us. I have the Steel case from my PS3 collectors edition from The last of us. Will the PS4 bluray fit in that case, are they basically the same Dimensions just different disc speeds?

Because I don't want to ebay the EU steel book for PS4.

how much do they cost on ps3 like each set or all of them together?

I still don't understand either. Brick everyone?

The poster I was responding to suggested Survivor for first play through for "the true TLoU experience." Survivor difficulty gives you very few supplies/melee weapons leaving you with bricks as your main weapons. I disagree with this point and used sarcasm to refute it. Apologies for confusion.

The gunplay is amazingly satisfying and I recommend normal difficulty for first time play through.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend Survivor for a first playthrough at all. Hard is by far the best balanced difficulty, and starting on Survivor (assuming you'll never play at a lower difficulty) will make you miss a very interesting part of the gameplay. Crafting and managing resources was a ton of fun.

Guys, I'm worried/confused about the power of this new generation of consoles.

This time last year I would have thought the PS4 could run any PS3 game at 1080p/60fps without breaking a sweat.

So why all this will it or won't it, with regards to The Last of Us Remastered? It seems now it will be the full package but even the devs seemed unsure about 60fps early on.

The PS3 seemed to handle PS2 remasters with relative ease by comparison.

So they game is 49.99 and the gameplay/guns will be roughly another 15 dollars with the packs? I think it was 3.99 for each pack for PS3. So roughly 65.00 for all multiplayer stuff and no clothing extras. I'm ok with this.

Agreed.
SP will be 30 fps :) you should mark my words

I hope she
ntkrnl
can confirm that SP is running at 30 fps

I'm still putting my money on SP=30 fps en MP=60fps

@arne How big are the chances that SP and MP will run at 60fps. I read a lot of guys saying MP runs at 60fps but nothing bout SP.

Are you guys gonna play us like a fiddle?

So....

SP = 30 fps
MP = 60 fps

Burn....

GAF will melt if it isnt 60fps :)

Marked.

It is the intricate design of the ND engine bespoke for the PS3/cell design which is very exotic architecture.

The fact they got it up and running in such short time and on-top of that improved it all by over 2 times.....amazing!

Round peg square hole scenario. And in the end they made the hole an octagon and the peg a swan!

Good :) You are in for a ride

How do you like your crow served?
