Star Wars Mafia |OT| A Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

I get it, I do. But if we're going to randomly start out choosing someone why not do it with actual randomness? There are 23 of us it's not hard to put that number into a random number generator and post a screen cap of the number that pops up.

My post was very tongue in cheek. It's not always that you actually want to see the random person detained, it's that you want to see them, and others, react. The only way that that will really work is if theres the genuine threat of being detained. If we choose a random number and all agree to go with it we learn nothing from the discussions.
Like LoC said above the way we will catch people is by noticing slips, inconsistencies and eventually collusions. The more we talk the better it is for the Rebels.

A Hutt could fake the number generation and post a screenshot of a person they're targeting.

They could buy why would they at this point unless it targets one of them and if they object, well that makes that person suspicious doesn't it? I'm not saying we use this the entire time when we're unsure I'm simply suggesting we use it now, for the first day only.

Yes, but who are we going to trust to generate the number? You? I don't suspect you, but I am 100% against letting a potential Hutt determine who we detain under the guise of randomness.

Re-reading the thread and I feel much more comfortable about exmachina64 and TheWorthyEdge simply being inexperienced with forum mafia.

Barry what are your thoughts? You've been much quieter this game than the last one.

It's not even about trust. Completely random detaining is absolutely no help, we aren't doing it thinking that we actually get lucky and hit a Hutt (although that would be awesome). We are only making the sacrifice because, in the long term, the information we get from the discussions surrounding it is worth the trade off, doing it at random and losing the discussions removes the benefit.

Well we could always use the random number generator to pick the person who picks the person we vote for. If that person happens to be a Hutt Operative, well, I guess the Force wouldn't be with us!

That's sarcasm btw.

What you're saying makes sense Makai I was just trying to give us an alternative way to vote on the first day.

I'm sure he knew when doing it that there was a risk it would turn on him, and it seems unlikely a mobster would take that risk. I mean there is always the chance that it's an incredibly ballsy move to try and build credibility/trust on day 1 but it just seems like too big a risk too early in the game for a mobster play to me.

I kind of see the opposite. As we have seen, talky people tend to get murdered early on. So either he was willingly taking a huge risk to get the game going, or he knows he wouldn't be murdered by the hutts for speaking up.

Exactly, the main deal here is not getting lucky with a Hutt hit. It's seeing how everyone reacts to the Detaining.

Real threat needs to exist if you want real reactions though.

Do the Hutts know who their fellow Hutts are?

Relatively common, yes.

Also, there can be variations that are Hutts without knowing who the other Hutts are, and vice versa, but there probably wouldn't be more than one.

In my opinion, there are anywhere between 3-6 Hutts. The more there are, the weaker their roles probably are. 4-5 with a few power roles is my guess.

Neutral roles exist as well. There's also probably 1 or 2, that don't specifically care about Hutts or Rebels. Their win conditions can vary wildly, but they normally don't end the game if they achieve their goal. As an example, Karkador was a serial killer last game that had to kill each night, and won if he was one of the last 3 alive. You could also have a survivor that only needs to last a certain number of days to escape and win. You could also have Neutral roles that have a quota of some kind to meet. There's a Piper we use sometimes that basically picks someone every night to add to his dancers, and he wins if everyone alive is under his control. We also like a Babysitter role, who only wins if they can keep a specific self-destructive role alive.

Definitely going to be at least 1 bounty Hunter, who I'd assume is Neutral. There's no way MattyG made this game without including AT LEAST 1. They probably need to find and kill someone specific to win.

On the other hand, they might already know their target, but can't act directly. This was my biggest concern with TB, but obviously that did not pan out. I still don't want him lynched, but we'll see what happens as the game goes on. I don't have strong feelings about anything yet. I'd vote if I did. Making any assumptions is dangerous. We spent 3/4 of the last game assuming a Cop would eventually jump in to provide info when they never even existed.

Can't say for sure how aggressive MattyG has gone with this game though. I'm curious to see if we have two deaths tonight or not.

This is Tatooine, so there's gotta be a bounty hunter of some sort. They could work for the hutts or be neutral with own goal.

All this talk of necessary evil and cold murder; the day is young, the suns are out, let's LIVE a little you bastards

No one would dare murder me on the first day.

You need me for the eye candy.

Looking at the three players with the fewest posts:

I admit to wanting to make you my first vote due to you muddying the water a bit...but you're right about one thing, I shouldn't be so hasty. I will not be some Nerf that gets herded by someone like...like a Herder.

But I'm keeping an eye on you.

This is Rymuth's only post and it's super weird. He doesn't post at all during the TB thing, but then comes in after to say "I was going to vote for you -- but I won't -- but I may!" This isn't contributing at all.

Vote: Rymuth

I'd like you to contribute more if you want me to move my vote. Who should we vote and why?

Zubz hasn't posted at all since the game officially started. And Matt Attack says he has spotty wifi, which is ok for now.

Zubz only posted on first page, and never again. I think if we do vote someone that hasnt posted in a bit he's my first choice.

Zubz is the most inactive. His only post is a pre-game joke.

Let's wait until Monday before going after inactives.

I think this is a bad vote right now. I'd like Zub to at least have a chance to come online today.

I'm specifically voting Rymuth because I think his one post is not helpful, and I'd like to hear from him

Its just a "placeholder" type of vote. It's not final. If he comes in and does something to contribute I will unvote instantaneously.

omg we're all gonna die on this stupid planet aren't we

I don't want to die

Protect me, keep me alive tonight, SOMEONE, anyone!

I'll do anything, grant you favours

Are you stalking me? I just got out of that thread. XD

Also: current vote standings:

TWE - Barrylocke
swamped - traube, LoC
Exmac - TB20xx
Rymuth - CzarTim
Zubz - TWE

Hopefully you all get my shorthand. I'm headed out to eat so in a bit of a hurry. Wanted to check in though, cause this thread is moving fast.

Yeah, waiting for monday sounds good. If Zubz doesn't show, I say we vote him off the ship.

Hey guys! Sorry, I was just scavenging those sweet, sweet Tatooine Berries... Which apparently do not exist. Go figure. (I actually had a busy day all day, and was out last night when Matty sent the roles out).

Anyway, after catching up, I'm seeing a lot of hostility here over nothing. I'm personally a "No Need to Detain Day 1" kind of player, so unless someone's really standing out to me, I'm not going to jump on anyone. Not even Barrylocke

Based on the popular votes, I don't distrust Worthy, even with that nomination for me. I'll admit, Terrabyte seems like he's going off on his own agenda, but I don't think he's on the Empire side. Honestly, I'm cool with all of you right now. But yeah, I'm alive, I was just busy for the past 24 hours.

Speak of the devil! No worries, real life comes first!

It's fiiiine, I did some scouting and found an abandoned moisture farm nearby, near-full tanks and everything :D

Tastes like ashes though

You want to comment on the game alongside any of your flavour text? You've made a few posts now without getting involved in the game at all. Keeping visible without really saying anything is always a bit suspicious in my eyes.

What an ash-hole!

I mean, (s)he might just be having fun while waiting before jumping on anyone (I mean, I got targeted before (s)he did, so I'd say silliness is safer than silence), but I've played games of Werewolf where people had to do flavor text-related stuff before doing anything relevant, anyway. For all we know, everything (s)he's saying is just as important as an accusation!

Besides, we're one day into the first day; all we've had is some unreadable jumpiness, anyway.

I feel like all of these "tells" are flimsy. Baseless accusations come off as bullying to me, although I recognize that it can be a tool in getting people to divulge information. I am going to focus on detecting inconsistencies in player stories, not character judgments.

And how do we find inconsistencies? By putting pressure on people to post more. That's not bullying, that's part of the game. I haven't seen any personal attacks, only questions about their content. Which is exactly what the Rebels should be looking at. If you're waiting for people to get caught in a lie, be prepared to wait a long time. Questioning intent is our main source of information right now.

My fear right now is we are going to be too indecisive on the whole no detain / random detain / suspect detain debate and make a rash last-minute decision. Obviously we still have a few days, but the more divided we are, the more power the Hutts have when voting.
