In the end, did Linkin Park deserve all the hate they got? Does it even matter?

I still remember an interview where they said "between the letters FU and CK, that's where we come in" or something like that. Hilarious.

Anyway, those first two albums are cheesy, lacking in musical depth, loaded with cringe worthy lyrics and, yes, angst. But... they also have lots of great hooks and are fun to listen to. Stuff like Limp Bizkit is pretty much unlistenable these days, but Linkin Park is still good times!

Mike Shinoda is actually the real deal. And he contributed some of the better fight music in The Raid: Redemption.

Was about to post this, I love the theme he made for the raid, that thing had me so pumped when I first saw the trailer.

Some of the tracks he made for some of the fights were pretty damn good as well that really played well with the tension of the fights. I don't know if it was him or Trapanese that made the drug lab track but I really remember that one after a five minute fight where the crescendo of the track matched perfectly with the climax on screen.

I also enjoyed his work on Depeche Mode's remix for Enjoy the Silence.

Most of their lyrics are angsty as all get-out, but the beat is great and the sound still works.

I still listen to their stuff while jogging. Many of their songs are easy to get into while running.

I don't know? Never hated them, but I also never really followed them all that closely. They did some pretty good stuff back in the day though!

Reanimation barely gets a mention in LP threads, but it's my favourite work of theirs followed by Collision Course. It makes sense, as I was never into any other metal but have always been into rap.

I used to listen to Hybrid Theory and Meteora when I was younger, but rarely get the urge to listen to them now. I might give their newer stuff another listen now I have music streaming services to comfortably try it on instead of YouTube.

Off the top of my head, I could still probably like My December, Burn it Down, Keys to the Kingdom, and Final Masquerade. Oh, and Burning in the Skies. The poppier type stuff is decent modern music. The rest, I grew out of.

Those first two Linkin Park albums are good, everything after that is bad so I don't think anyone should feel bad about liking good music.

I dunno if I'd call myself a fan, but I always loved Faint and Break The Habit.

Haven't listened to anything else they've done though.

They were emo as fuck but great to listen to, the first 2 albums anyway. After that they deserved any hate the got for becoming the generic crap they now are.

Yeah, this is a top favorite album. It's kinda like the success of Hybrid Theory freeing them to chase what they'd really like to do. And serves as somewhat of a prequel to Fort Minor. It also has some pretty great guest rap parts imo. I remember quite liking Chali 2na's contribution.

I popped in when I saw they were doing another remix album. But nope nope nope nope on that one.

The one downside I suppose is that it works best if you're familiar with the original material. Though I knew a few people I suggested it to who only knew of Linkin Park from the radio and liked it quite a bit and were like "this is Linkin Park?!?"

Yes! It's still my favorite LP album. I still love the band. I grew up with them, saw them live a few times and even got into a meet and greet. Great memories.
I might not enjoy every album they've made but I still respect them as artists.
Funny thing, I just listened to LP, Fort Minor (Mike Shinoda's solo project) and Dead by Sunrise (Chester Bennington's solo project) a few days ago.

Kind of I guess? I've never been a big LP fan but I did enjoy a few of their songs from their early albums - also the Jay Z one. Thing is, when bands/artists change/deviate with their genre they will get some deserved dislike because they're alienating the people and reasons why they fell in love with their music in the first place. Then again it's an unreasonable expectation to think an artist will remain the same. That's why I think changing their style while still being "Linkin Park" and not doing a side project for what they want to experiment in was a bad decision. They should've started a new project with experimentation and either put Linkin Park on hold or disbanded "Linkin Park". A lot of artists do this, some don't even announce officially their new project and rather just "appear" in order to distract. I think not doing that caused a lot of fans to hang onto a thread of hoping LP will return to what they were initially known for but never has and that just naturally sparked dislike/anger.

Yeah, that would have been the sensible thing to do considering that's how electronic artists do it. Want to try something new? Release it under a different name.

They went mainstream for a rock band and people love to hate stuff that's mainstream because it's edgy.

It was very much of it's time and their fusion of music was a cool change from what was about then.

I like Linkin Park. They were huge when I was in high school, and while I outgrew their music, I could still appreciate some of their newer stuff.

They just reached that maximum height of popularity where the only direction left was to go down, and be hated by everyone, just like every really popular thing ever.

Great title change
Aside from that though, no not really they get a ton of shit thrown at them but they're nowhere near as bad as many would make it seem.

The music and arangements were often interesting, but those lyrics..

It was much better then Papa Roach. And much less derivative and dull then Creed and Nickelback. They were bad in a sincere way, and occasionaly were decent. I have no hate for them.

Just gave The Hunting Party a crack and was pleasantly surprised. I mean it's not amazing or anything but pretty solid. Definitely some punk influence in there as well. The production is damn good too. Definitely the direction the band should have been going in for a while. Can see myself listening to it a few times.

LP is good. I listened to them back when they showed a music video in Cartoon Network up to now.

No.

My chemical romance , fallout boy and all the other no name emo/goth bands should have got the hate

Linkin park had decent songs B^)

HEY YOU MCR WAS LEGIT GOOD. Their live shows suck though so just listen to their albums except maybe the first one.

Minutes to Midnight was a disaster- they turned themselves into a generic band and lost the thing (dueling rap/rock singers) that made them unique. Thankfully they veered away from that generic sound with the later stuff.

Waiting for the End is a fantastic song though.

eh, i enjoyed Minutes to Midnight when I first listened to it. I appreciated them trying different things as a group. Then I couldn't really stand hearing it, but now I enjoy songs off that album every once in a while.

Thost first two albums were actually, legitimately good. Can't even begin to say the same thing about everything else though.

and even the remix album was fantastic........after that

I can't fucking stand them. Minutes to midnight had maybe 1 or 2 songs I cared for and that was the end of them for me. When I started hearing their songs a shit load on pop stations every 3 hours I knew then that they truly were never going back to the old style.

Once nu-metal became stale, they genre warped to mainstream rock and it just doesn't work. I think they had developed such a specific style, that transitioning to generic poprock made them become lost in the shuffle.

It was unchallenging pop rock. I don't think it was ever relevant, compelling, or "good" enough to be discussed as art. Like questioning if music in 80's commercials were good or bad.

Yeah. Nu-metal was everywhere, but only Linkin Park sounded like Linkin Park. Love or hate them, they had a super unique sound, and the production, and blend of rapping and singing was just perfect.

Then they turned into a second-rate U2

Their first 2 albums were great but at the time there was the emo explosion and they were associated with emos(maybe for the lyrics? dunno?). That's all, no one really hated their music...it started to get hate after the third album and with all the Transformers soundtracks

These dudes seem like douchebags didn't they call the police on sublime with Rome for smoking pot last year?

Back when I enjoyed rap metal I liked the first album but I eventually grew out of it.

It was honestly all downhill after Rage. They had a strong message, whether one agreed with it or not (or even found it juvenile), and real musical talent. I mean Tom Morello man and his riffs and solos. And Zack's lyrics? The drum and bass? Good stuff. Then all of the sudden we had suburbanites aping their style to complain about privileged teenaged angst (from artists in their late 20's or early 30's).

We need to talk about how fucking sick Reanimation was in this thread tho. To this day that album has some of the best remixes i've ever heard, that bangs in a car too.
