Goddamn America, Trump is hilarious.

I just watched this program on channel 4 about Donald Trump! And I've gotta say, I reckon Trump is like, a comedy bit, or maybe he's put in to make the other conservative candidates look better? Very funny either way.

'I will build a great, great, wall on our southern border. And I will make Mexico pay for that wall'

'The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.'

On a more serious note, Channel 4 described him as providing a window into an angry fractured nation. How accurate is that?

But Jeb is the son of the former president? I thought they didn't like each other. There was footage on that program of them arguing on tv.

This will explain everything:

Not really, considering that every minority in America despises him and candidates can't win on just the white vote alone anymore.

Until you get a Republican candidate who gets a lot of votes from white people who would have voted for the Democrats if the Republicans had another candidate.

I personally think he's super scary, since he's symptomizing the bigotry and frankly violently fascist views of the world by millions of people and powerful institutions.

He's joking.

Yes, Trump and Jeb loathe each other. Jeb is the son of George H.W. Bush, who was president in the 90s, and brother of George W. Bush. He was the presumed frontrunner to get the nomination until Trump showed up and stole the spotlight, and ever since he's been floundering in the polls until he dropped out of the race yesterday.

Trump is tapping into a very angry, very white base of voters who have seen economic stagnation over the years but don't quite understand that their problems are caused by capitalism itself and so they blame Mexicans (illegal immigrants "taking our jobs"), black people (who they think are lazy and sit around all day living off of welfare stealing "our hard earned tax dollars"), liberals who supposedly manipulate everyone and hate America, and Muslims who they are terrified of. Trump is bordering on fascist territory.

But that doesn't make sense (Trump's sentiments, not your post) I don't see how he could be taken seriously.

Incorrect, European Nationalists are combining left-winged economic policies with far-right social politics.

Wrong, it's mostly left everything except immigration and religion. In France FN is more left-wing than the Socialist party.

Did anyone see him on Meet the Press this morning? Chuck Todd confronted him about his opposition to the Iraq War by playing a clip of him on Howard Stern in 2002 supporting the invasion. His response was "I really don’t even know what I mean, because that was a long time ago, and who knows what was in my head?”

This guy just defies logic.

I don't know man, I'm afraid.

A lot of gaffers thought that Republicans would not take the Senate, look what happened. They took it alright.

You can never be too certain, especially with the bs voter I.D laws in certain states which is used to bar minorities, college students, and the less fortunate from voting.

Stop thinking logically. Vast swathes of the American electorate don't. They're badly educated, raised in a racist society from birth that treats "white" as "normal" and everything else as suspect, and follow an echo chamber of conservative media to get their news, which is then reinforced when everyone they know at their churches believes the same thing.

Obviously that's an exaggeration, but it is true to a large extent.

Pretty sure a year ago everyone was convinced he had no chance whatsoever at getting the candidacy. Never underestimate evil.

But Trump is sort of doing this, relative to current US policy. He is the only Republican who has proposed expanding Social Security and has frequently hinted at support for socialized health care. He is also an economic protectionist who has attacked free trade agreements, offshoring, and corporate tax inversion. Like all of the other Republican candidates, his tax plan has across-the-board cuts (which end up favoring the wealthy more), but aside from that his is to the left of them on most economic issues.

He's a charming guy, in a sense. I enjoy watching his candidness since it stands out from all the other candidates. I've been following this stuff for years so it's refreshing to hear from a guy who doesn't have to think about a career in politics when he's making speeches or doing town halls. He can talk about things in a way that no other candidate can which in turn has led him to tap into some genuine feelings regarding all these issues.

They're feelings I don't share, of course, but it's something more people need to hear to make a better decision for the future of this country.

I'm not really worried about Trump to be honest. He'll likely be the Republican nominee after all the primaries are done and he'll lose to Clinton in the general. I just don't see him getting elected with the kind of message he's putting out.

Even if he has no chance of winning he's empowering all the wrong people in the US.

Yeah, I don't think he can win the general but the fact that he's doing so successfully is going to cause a lot more support for nationalists and white supremacists in the future. That's not going away any time soon. He's doing what Bernie is (hopefully) doing on the left, which is causing a realignment within the party.
