Uh oh...I sense this thread is about to explode now. Nintendo better just unveil the thing soon because there are many cracks beginning to form in their wall of secrecy...

Nintendo really does do whatever they want and everybody else can fuck off.

This just seems like them ignoring almost all of the criticisms of the Wii U and decided to give it another go.

At least you can talk. Who are you?
I know what the HEX means. But it's unclear if he meant it shouldn't have been exposed because it's an outdated prototype or if it's the real thing.

If he knows something he might as well just say it or shut up.

.

Rösti is clearly fucking with us by posting such a vague comment, he's probably sitting back laughing at the reactions and loving the attention.

it's all part of the fun

You just want him to give more details lol

If this is real, I'm only buying this console if either Metroid Prime 4, Super Mario Galaxy 3 or Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door 2 releases.

A Zelda, Smash and/or Splatoon port won't cut it for me.

Fuck this ugly piece of shit. I already learned my lesson with Wii U.

Wow, it's real?

Well, let's start analyzing. 62 fps in a UE4 demo is pretty good. Hopefully those awful sticks can be replaced with buttons or something better. I still love the idea of scrolling wheels on top of the controller.

Again, I will LOL if it is Ubisoft again leaking things.

I like it.

So, does Rösti work for Nintendo or some third party? I mean, in what way is or would he/she be in the know?

Man, please don't let this be real. LMAO.

If this thing has no physical face buttons, or something that provides the exact same level of tactile feedback/precision as physical face buttons, I'm out.

This brings literally zero advantage over anything that ever come out before it. The only thing it has going for it is the novelty of a free-form display, which will get old really quick.

Please be fake.

I think it was FourthStorm who made a good point about these sticks looking super clickable and squishy, which would be beneficial given the lack of physical buttons.

Yeah I saw that linked video. The sticks are still what sell this as real to me. If I was putting together a fake controller I would use the stick design Nintendo has stuck with since the Wii or use the circlepads from the 3DS - wouldn't waste my time on something that, on first glance, looks closest to a fightpad or NGP stick.

Considering there are no grips on this thing, and Nintendo have a history with add-ons, I'm willing to be that we are missing something from the equation. We discussed in the other threads an attachment like the Circle Pad Pro that adds grips and physical buttons. Why not?

That would be ridiculous of Nintendo to put this out and require you to buy grips. Because without grips this controller would be a cramping nightmare placing your hands on the lower parts of the oval.

Talking about hyperbole...

Nah, Wii U gamepad it's very confortable... For a controller of that size, it's quite an achievement.

How well did N64 work? So it was so good it carried over to their next console right? NOPE.

Gamecube though carried over to Wii for use on games.

How about you take a step back from shouting "WII U 2!!!" and consider that this might very well be their next handheld.

Again, we don't know how it'll be handled or if this is the final device if it's real.
I don't think Nintendo would release a device whose controller wouldn't work for Mario or Zelda. Heck, the patent specifically references Zelda.

Yeah. I buy nintendo stuff to play zelda games (and also mario/smash). My thoughts are that just looking at it, it doesn't look like it'll work for mario/zelda/smash - but that's because all I have is one picture. The picture makes it look like it'll suck for my 3 favorite nintendo franchises.

What you say is true, though - nintendo wouldn't release a system that makes it hard to play their core franchises, I don't think. Hopefully the reveal will make it clear that it's all good.

I can almost hear the reality of things settling into people's minds all across gaf. We need to come up with a name for this thing. Project Stewie.

It actually does. It gives devs or consumers the ability to move the buttons wherever they wish, which gives freedom when it comes to hand placement/etc. It also opens up the system for loads of mobile games, which is what we knew Nintendo wanted to do.

So, with this being possibly real ... i'd guess it's time for a certain dev to grab his things from his desk, as someone is about to get fired.

... Getting a flight to the peruvian mountains might be a good plan, too, as there's some hellish Ninja-Lawyer storm brewing up.

Also ... stop the jumping to conslusions and overreactions from a single image that doesn't even show the backside of a device we don't know wether it's a controller or a handheld!

I'd be fine with this on a handheld, since I mostly play RPGs on handhelds. Not sure about is as a console controller through.

If it is the portable console though, having long grips like that would make it very impractical.

Ok so it is probably real? I'm actually liking the look of it, also judging by the patent it looks tike the controller might have attachable grips for standard console play. Touchscreen buttons is my biggest concern though, I can see that being a huge problem for me unless somehow they work well with this controller.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The meltdowns going on are delicious. Haven't really been around enough to know how reliable Rosti is, but if you're all taking his word for it... Still, Since the device itself looks fairly rough, I don't doubt it'll still be heavily refined before launch, the Wii U pad itself got some notable changes in the sticks and ergonomics after the e3 reveal and the PS$ controller started out looking sorta crappy.

Still, a Wii U Gamepad 2.0 with a higher res, much smaller form factor, free-form screen, scrollder buttons and haptic buttons (if they work properly, Nintendo doesn't half-ass these things)? I'm down for that. Gimmie a more Vita-esque form factor and it'll be much better. I'd prefer attachable overlays to virtual buttons, but oh well.

Honestly I liked the patent design from the get-go. I thought it was sleek as hell. If this is the console controller, I don't know why they dropped the grips. If it's a handheld and has lumpy shit in the back, that's okay too. Or it's just a prototype. :)

Haptic buttons vs. physical I'm not going to worry about until people play the device and give impressions. But when it comes to control practicality, I have to say I really do trust Nintendo on that. They wouldn't just do away with physical buttons for shits and giggles. How a game plays is super important to them.
