Rumor: Zelda coming to both Wii U + NX, choose between male/female link, VA for NPCs

Who would you like to be the female character option in Zelda U?

on the one hand it's Zelda but on the other hand, it's Nintendo lol

Could go either way
Exactly. Since the release of Kid Icarus Uprising, Nintendo has stuck exclusively with non-union voice acting. While said voice acting in their games was solid, they haven't been as top-tier as, say, The Last of Us. And again, we still have great non-union VAs such as Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, & Patrick Setiz. All I'm asking is that Nintendo not skimp out on the voice acting budget for Zelda U/NX & actually hire the right people for the right roles, regardless of if they're unionized or not. If Troy Baker fits best as Ganondorf, cast him. Don't let the budget get in the way, a big game such as Zelda deserves that kind of spending.

please don't be Linkle

Are you against Linkle due to how Koei characterized her in Hyrule Warriors or are you generally against the idea of Link and Girl Link being two different characters with different names?

Because even if it's (a character called) Linkle, I doubt that Nintendo would use Koei's characterization.

Oh shit that's crazy. Guess it fits perfectly for Zelda since Link is a blank slate character so it wouldn't matter if it's a guy or a girl.

Because this pretty much guarantees Link as a character is going to be shit. They're not going to do two separate storylines and I'm doubting they would even do small changes. I would rather they just do a full fledged game tailored with Link being female then this half-measure.
The Hero of Time as a character has never been reliant on his gender/hair colour or physical characteristics in general.

Thinking of Wind Waker, which has my favorite characterization of Link, not a single cutscene or character beat would change if you model-swapped in a female Link.

I am of the opinion that I would've liked to see them wholly commit to a female link rather than just compromise and make it optional. That's because I see each Link as being their own character rather than a stand in avatar and would've liked to see a story specifically written for female link.
I mean they still can. I don't know how this Zelda game is structured and maybe there are deviations when making the gender choice in the beginning. Who knows.

I'm surprised to see some resistance to a female Link option on the basis on the relationship to Zelda, especially with two of the last three console titles offering no romantic undertones between the two. Hell, Twilight Princess is pretty explicitly about that.
Skyward Sword was Link and Zelda's first really close relationship.
Not sure if people didn't play the game or weren't paying attention.
Edit: didn't see that, but yeah. The last Zelda game had the best Zelda

The Wii U & NX release was pretty obvious, but Emily Rogers is usually on point. It'll be interesting to see fan reactions to all of this. E3 is going to be hype as hell this year for Nintendo fans.

I hope Link and Linkle are both in the game, as brother and sister, and you choose which one you want to be the hero. The other is still involved in the story somehow, but takes a backseat.

Maybe the opening chapter can be sort of like WW, where the other sibling gets captured by evil forces and you set out to rescue them before being drawn in to the larger story?

But I want to play as the hero, not a joke.

I do not understand why every game must have all genders now. True, there are a lot more girls playing than before, but on mobile AFaIK. I feel like everything is too PC now and by trying to cater to everyone your game loses its focus and its identity. Linkle would be a shame really, cannot wait for female Kratos and Master Chief too.

So every Zelda game?

Well I guess the other thread got locked so I'll just reiterate what I said in here

What's up with all of these posts where people are seemingly angry about the potential of a female Link and give zero reasons why

I don't fucking get it

You can just ignore it! Just pick male Link! PROBLEM SOLVED!

Why is giving players a choice a bad thing??????

Personally I am a big nerdy Zelda fanboy and to me Link is a character, not an avatar. I'd love a female character playable, I just don't want it to be a simple toggle. Either make link female only, or make a different playable character. I just don't want a toggle because to me link is a single character.

Again, reiterating what I said in the other thread:

The only constants between Links in each game are that

1) He wears a green tunic
2) He's brave, because he has the Triforce of Courage
3) He's willing to go out of his way to protect his kingdom and the people he cares about.

How would any of those things be effected by gender?

But it's still Link as a character. I'd imagine that all the characteristics will be the same between the two. It's just so people who prefer to play as female characters have that option and more female badasses in video games is always a good thing imo.

I'm doubting there isn't going to be much romance, even with the neutered PG Nintendo style. It's possible but do you think Nintendo would let Zelda/Female Link be an actual thing?

the latter, of course

I think Linkle (the character in HWL) is fun and Linkle (the concept of Link as female needed to be an entirely different characterisation) is silly

That all sounds good to me.

But I have a feeling people are going to be pissed about each of those points, hilariously.

Link is blank state character, those two other characters arent

One of the tweets states:

Rumor #1: Yes, Zelda is coming to both Wii U and NX. I confirmed it with a ton of people. You can choose which one to get. Or get both.

Why "both"?
Could this possibly mean that the 2 version are slightly different? (And not just for technical details).

As if Link's character has anything to do with his gender. Please...

Who do you think they would get to do the voice acting? I'm thinking of Michael Ironside as Ganondorf and maybe Daisy Ridley as Princess Zelda.

Yeah, the amount of games where Link and Zelda are a thing are few and far between. Even OoT doesn't really go down that road too much.

Love this idea. Espicially being able play as female link and have more life in the world with voice acting.

I'm really happy about all of these 3 rumors if they're true. Much like the Persona protagonists I don't think Link needed VA anyway.

Somebody give me one good reason why an option to choose a gender for Link is bad. I'm still waiting for it lol.

Also, isn't Link reborn again so it means Link can comeback a male or female (for those who even care about the "lore")?

I'd presume that NX won't come with an expensive touch screen controller, so they'd have to adapt the experience somewhat so it doesn't depend so much on the GamePad.

Similar to Twilight Princess, I'd imagine.
