Okay, let me make is simple.

Tegra 2 = Very old Tegra which was considered for 3DS
PICA 200 = The GPU which actually ended up in 3DS

Tegra X2 = Unofficial name for the new Tegra (official name is Parker, at least for now)
DMP M3000 = A new GPU from the same people who made the 3DS GPU

What does that even mean really? They made a critically acclaimed game that was a successor to another critically acclaimed game and major seller. If it didn't move Wii U's despite its quality than maybe it's because the Wii U itself really wasn't that compelling of a buy. If that's the case I doubt any 3D Mario game would be able to move Wii U's.

That's true, there isn't some kind of standard that relates FLOPS to real world performance of "graphics".

That's why we always keep saying Nvidia FLOPS aren't weighted the same as AMD FLOPS when we look at benchmarks of games running because even drivers affect performance.

The 3DS was running off really old tech compared to a Tegra 2.

The PICA200 was a 65nm GPU from around 2008 shrunk down to 45nm and underclocked to 133MHz from 200MHz.

The Tegra 2 was a 40nm GPU which ran at around 333MHz. It's understandable if it ran hot but Nvidia got better at their craft in later generations.

A 16nm Pascal-based Tegra would be magnitudes better in performance and power consumption compared to a Tegra 2.

You say you don't like Mobile GPUs but want DMP which makes no sense since the DMP M3000 can be used for mobile devices and Tablets as described in their press release.

Edit: Corrected a mistake.

Note that the 3DS used pretty old ARM CPUs too compared to what the Tegra 2 had. Keep that in mind for when Nintendo upped the clockspeed of the CPU in the New 3DS.

If I recall, the Pica200 that is in the 3DS runs at 266MHz. Its clock-speed was doubled late in development due to the additional power needed for 3D. The ARM11 in the 3DS was not only old but severely underclocked. ARM11 can be clocked up to 1GHz. That is how Nintendo was able to triple the CPU clockspeed for the n3DS without an issue.

So I did my own research, not based on sources or anything, but just research on what the most currently powerful handheld that exists, and the JXD S192 is definitely the most powerful.

The other powerful chip that's coming is the GPD WIN. It uses an Intel Atom with integrated GPU. Can run Gears of Wars (PC) at around 40fps.

Look at how much of a buzzword x86 has become since the reveal of the PS4. I've mentioned seeing people that think x86 has to do with the power of a console.

If the reveal is indeed around the 20th of September you'd think we'd know about it this week, but I'm really not counting on it after getting that totally random Galaxy video with Reggie. Yeah, and he doesn't have that one source anymore, and given how well that worked out any other legitimate source knows to stay miles away from him at this point.

There are ACTUAL insiders who have info in their given areas. People like NateDrake, Emily Rogers, ShockingAlberto, John Harker, all to various degrees. They have proven themselves to have some degree of trustworthiness and inside information.

SMD got lucky, once, and fucked up his one chance to be relevant. Now he's trying to coast off of that one time he got something good, which is funny because it couldn't have ended more disastrously. Basically every actual big player and potential leaker knows not to go to him unless they have a death wish.

That's why SMD can't be trusted. It isn't that he was right one time... it's that any observer can clearly see he bungled the whole situation so bad he would never get a real scoop again. The world of information is very unforgiving.

Tekken, a fighting game from Namco was a launch title so maybe there is where the source came from. Rockstar could've been working on a game and it got cancelled, wouldn't be the only one. Metroid was in development for 3DS, cancelled and Federation Force came out. Star Fox didn't enter development until around its announcement. Nintendo said they considered fem Link internally but it didn't go through.
Even reliable insiders get things wrong occasionally and it's not like she's the only one backing the Eurogamer report

EDIT: Nevermind. I got sucked into doing what I didn't want to do.

Moral of the story: these rumors are interesting for discussion and in many cases, they represent a truth that existed at one point. However, really, nothing should be trusted until Nintendo announces something officially. And even then, don't take it for granted until it's actually released because although companies typically wait to announce something until things are "certain," it can still change. See: every delayed/canceled/renamed/console-hopping game ever.

1. Star Fox was being prototyped since the Wii. It was in development. Slowly. That's from Miyamoto. But that's not even the problem, the problem is Rogers was adamant about what wasn't in development at Nintendo. I mean Nintendo employees in Kyoto don't even know what's in development at the company. That's how the company is built.

2. It wasn't a product by any means.

4. This was in Spring 2011.

5. A secret internal theoretical discussion that was never truly considered is the equivalent to it being part of a game? Apparently Rogers was in the conversation.

Screw it, why not. I've stopped asking questions. Nintendo's concept of marketing and PR is batshit from the inside out, and the things they get right are more by accident and rarely replicated.

I've never seen a gaming company stumble so frequently between insane success and total embarassment as regularly as Nintendo. It's almost impressive how you can always count on them to nigh-terminally disappoint you right before blowing you away.

Cool band names aside, I agree. It'll happen when it happens. Let's just all try to be productive at work in the days we have left before the announcement, cause I sure as hell will be distracted when those threads emerge.

I'm still gonna guess September, but I'm not sure if it'll be a full reveal at first or broken up into two or more events spread out through the next 7 months. Either way we don't have much longer to wait, let's just not go crazy thinking it'll be tomorrow every day.
