I'm not sure what I'm more offended by...

Donald Trump supporter?

We made him rich?

He uses that money for shitposting?

Delicious memes?

I'm so glad i saw this tread I was about to buy some games off the oculus store for my GearVR.

Fuck you Palmer.

Woah, hey now...

Palmer Luckey had nothing to do with those games. Those devlopers didn't know he was a piece of shit.
If we don't support the software developers then VR won't grow.

Edit: oops,dbl pst

Well, that makes my VR purchase delicious decision much easier. What a sorry excuse for a human being.

Good fucking grief at this news. What a piece of shit.

Someone on the chat on Jeff's mixlr called him the vice president of memes, Jeff replied "more like vice president of racism".

Funnily enough, his interactions with GB was one of the first things that popped into my head. I'm glad to read that Jeff responded like this, the appropriate tone and also the right amount of air time.

Yean, fuck Oculus. Never supporting that shit again. I hope it fails in a huge way now.

I'd be ashamed to buy that shit and find out that's what I'm supporting with my money.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
No way Carmack is a Trump guy. Carmack probably sees politics as something only humans concern themselves with. Carmack is in another world.

Carmack is a Randite Objectivist Libertarian. I can definitely see him being way into Trump.

He lives in the Techno Libertarian other world of "All I do is code on my computer, why should I have to pay for bridges, roads, schools and social programs"

I remember reading an article written by Carmack about dealing with the government when he was trying to build rockets. I can see him supporting Trump.

Yeah GB tends not to get political and I enjoy them for that but I'm happy Jeff acknowledged it and also in such a Jeff way.

That's not exactly trump's platform though.

Also there's a libertarian on the ticket isn't there?

Hm, does anyone think Scorpio will still support this scumbag's product or are they going for another platform (to avoid a major shit storm)? I really can't imagine that a company like MS wants to make deals with someone like him.

I know nothing is official yet, but wasn't it heavily implied that Scorpio is going to support an Oculus device?

This doesn't impact my impression of Oculus at all. They already dug to the bottom of that well months ago. But lol at this whole thing. Can't wait to read the threads on /r/oculus.

they've already gone back and forth with removing the main thread talking about this story twice in the past couple hours

I don't think MS will change. It's only a soft link between them so far, it's not like PSVR's association with Sony.

If there's any action it'll probably be on the facebook side of things. THEY probably don't want to deal with this sort of thing even more.

I imagine Oculus will distance themselves from Luckey as much as they can and try to get a new face out in front of the product.

Disappointing. Has he issued a statement or even explained his involvement?

We shall see tomorrow. News broke too late for Facebook to issue anything. I expect radio silence from Palmer. I predict he will delete his twitter, as well, or at least delete all of his likes.

Read the article, he talked to them directly and explained his involvement.

"It’s something that no campaign is going to run," Luckey said of the proposed billboards for the project.
"I’ve got plenty of money,” Luckey added. “Money is not my issue. I thought it sounded like a real jolly good time."

"I came into touch with them over Facebook," Luckey said of the band of trolls behind the operation. "It went along the lines of ‘hey, I have a bunch of money. I would love to see more of this stuff.’ They wanted to build buzz and do fundraising."]

And there's this post he made on his alt account on Reddit.

So what you're saying is that everyone will be better off if they just didn't know, right? Because the problem isn't funding evil, if you're not actively seeking the political views of other companies; it's knowingly funding evil. Therefore ignorance is morally correct.

Your line of argumentation is terrible. The major reason why it is terrible is because it is natural that people considering boycotting something they disagree with will weigh it against the utility it gives them. It's easy to boycott Woody Allen, Chic-fil-A, or Oculus, because all of the three are easily substituted and luxuries. It is extremely difficult to sacrifice a gas-running car without severe quality of life impacts or large amounts of wealth. Many people choose hybrids, public transit, walking, biking, etc to supplement their cars as part of limiting their footprints, but in large swaths of the world it is not feasible to go without entirely. No one is a hypocrite for making easy changes in their life while avoiding hard ones, and making any change for the better is better than making none.

Your followup in this post is also dumb. No one is making the point that ignorance is bliss; they're making the point that ignorance is ignorance. You can't make decisions based on information you don't have, you have to make decisions based on information you do have. Whether you're plugging your ears or spending your life reading about ethical issues, there will still be things you know and things you don't. If you want to make an argument that people should consider their consumption, I agree, but I doubt you're making that argument because you started the argument specifically to shit upon people for whom this revelation changed their impression of a product. So then your argument seems to be that you should not respond to information you do have, because what about information you don't have? That's stupid.

That is a shame and certainly changes some feelings having been part of this even before the DK1 over at MTBS3D.

I don't regret it, but it's definitely likely that Carmack played an even bigger role than I believed, and that was already quite large.

I'm still glad to have my DK1 and DK2 and having been part of the whole process, but I did jump ship to the Vive when I realized Facebook had poisoned the well and the whole issue with downplaying touch and room scale among other things.

I'll buy them on other platforms but I'll not spend another dollar on the Oculus store.

I can't help thinking about South Park. Palmer seemed a pretty swell guy at the beginning when he had just come out of the garage to show his new VR thing. Then he got introduced to lots of money:

That's actually super disappointing... but I'd say that's par for the course in much of the industry/silicon valley. GAF (and some sites like GB) really are the exception as a somewhat center-left oasis of sorts (at least in OT) as there are many large swaths of right-leaning awfulness out there.

Seeing the strong reactions in here really is heartening though. And Palmer's post on reddit supporting Trump, knowing the shit Trump has said/supports, is the biggest pile of privileged bullshit. Seriously, fuck that guy.

Is that the only one or did someone archive them? Pretty awful.
I think that might be the only one. Apparently they got hit with backlash from the subreddit immediately after announcing their super PAC.

Said it in the other thread, but I'm so disappointed by this. As much understandable shit as they've been getting in GAF VR circles for their huge DRM misstep and the third party software switch, Oculus has funded some great games and there's a lot of merit to their hardware (Touch is really nice). And timewarp!

I hope they dump the dude.
