Rumor Mill (TAKE WITH GRAIN OF SALT): Marvel vs Capcom 4 revealing at PSX/Capcom Cup

Logo + year with zero game footage is for a game that is more than 12 months out. While I don't expect a full blowout, I do expect at least some parts of its gameplay to be shown, even if its HUD-less, along with a few characters announced. I expect it might get a bigger blowout in GI in the months afterwards though.

So you expect some parts of gameplay and characters of a game that you think is fake to be shown?

Ha. Nice, Seya.

Spidey's little quip "you've got a black belt in stupid" was pretty cool as well.

Most of the older games had Ryu paired with Cyclops or Cap. Akuma was Wolverine's original rival.

aren't marvel heads litterally flying out to PSX for this announcement? lol
Yes. I hunted one down I used to spar with today and asked him. He is going to Capcom Cup. I commented on our favorite rumor and I quote "LOL I am just going to enjoy a great SF V finals! "

Uh huh.

Still could be an elaborate hoax to show interest, but yeah.

I also now do not expect Nova.

Is there a reason why they wouldn't do MvC4?

Did MvC3 not sell very well?

A quick check implies it sold well - not amazing.

Problem is the times - Capcom aren't doing great right now and Marvel, when in context of the Scrooge McDuck money they are making everywhere else along with that Champions game, why would they really care?

Hopefully we get the same amount as vanilla MVC3 but seeing how SFV turned out.. I'm worried.

I would hope capcom learned from SFV. If they wanna really appeal to casual sales at launch. A story mode and a decent size starting roster is a must. I would definitely say vanilla mvc3 should be the starting size.

MvC3 sold well, it had some hype generated behind it. UMvC3 didn't meet with sparkling reviews cause it was released so soon due to calamities that hit Japan around the time of development. It was a much more polished game (despite all the mayhem in it) with a couple more characters added in and a new character select screen.

I think Capcom and Marvel are willing to give it another shot since it was totally out of their hands with licensing agreements and timings with other projects on Capcom's agenda. I do believe Marvel can bring out another fighting game since they are aiming for AAA production values and the mobile game is doing well. The worry is whether they would go back to Capcom, which I think they would due to the history between the two, it'd be a slap in the face on Capcom's end and Marvel burned a bridge (not necessarily an important one but Capcom is known for fighting games for the past 30 years).

We haven't seen an MvC4 in the last five years because of Marvel. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is the 21st best-selling game in Capcom history, and it’s their best-selling game without Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, or Dino Crisis in the title. MvC3 sold 2.2 million copies, and UMvC3 sold an additional 1.2 million, which released only nine months after the first version.

Good ol Dino Crisis. Still hanging out near the top after all these years.

I thought Marvel had explicitly said they wanted to have a strong presence in the console space. Back when they announced the Spider-man game.

OH SHIT!

So, is it real? I won't be ready lol
The only thing that I wan't to know if Marvel did or didn't ban the Fox characters, only a few days left now.

SFV's launch problems had less to do with its exclusivity and more to it being a glorified early access game.

I think it was the rush in trying to get it out for this Capcom ProTour. I honestly didn't see the reason as to why they needed to rush it when USF4 was getting more and more players coming to play the game and compete. An extra year would've done SFV some real good, now the stigma is stuck that its an incomplete game when all of the DLC is out already for season 1. Miyamoto is a genius, take time and make the game, deliver a good and late game is better than releasing a bad and early game, or something among those lines.

Sure, Spidey solo on a Sony console only makes sense.

Regardless of previous fan acclaim, and GAF hype on here, Marvel seeing MvC4 as a road to surefire console presence doesn't seem like a (as much as I'd like it to be) business slamdunk

Yeah the reason behind the game releasing early was CPT and Capcom wanting to have a big game out before the end of fiscal year so they can show something to investors. Ironically them wanting to show their success led to game getting bad reviews/word of mouth and bombing commercially.

Hopefully they've learned their lessons with MvC4.

I love Pokken!
Let's be real here.

Akuma will be in SFV.
Akuma will be in MvC4.
Akuma's already in T7.

raw

He'll be in every crossover from this point on and even games not related to it, he's just that dude.

YOU. I like you.

Ok, actual serious post time

Marvel's new console initiative, to me at least, seems more like of a prestige/premium thing than a money thing. They have mobile and Marvel Heroes for money, making it hand over first. But they had license issues before, with EA and Activision making some shithouse games with it. I think Marvel had a straight up 'no renewal of licenses' policy while they tried to figure things out. They let Acti back in the game for the old remasters, but they aren't making new ones.

So where are we at now? We're getting a Spider-Man game with a pretty top flight developer. Marvel never had any problems with Capcom the way they did with others. They were always happy with the quality and sales of the games, no? And now they're on a quality initiative. Why not bring back a potentially money-strapped Capcom with a sweetheart deal (for Marvel) while making people happy and boosting your properties?

Capcom Cup will also be returning to PlayStation Experience this year, with the finals taking place on Saturday at 6:00 PM. Watch the top qualifying players from the Capcom Pro Tour compete for more than $250,000 in prizing and the chance to be crowned the Street Fighter V world champion

The finals start at 6, the panels are before then. So if mvc3 is at the finals it definitely won't be at a PSX panel earlier in the day.

The show starts at 10am PST. Probably lasts 1.5 hours (first panel is at 12).

If MVC4 is really there, will be interesting how it's announced. Since we still have the whole akuma thing up in the air.

I could see an announcement for marvel 4 beforehand and then them saying"They'll be real gameplay at capcom cup later today" or something along those lines

Yeah, those still being blank is weird. They have to be a part of announcements.

Not sure if they wanna give away the surprise like that. I think they'd just say "we have a totally new game to show off at the end of Capcom Cup, stay tuned" or something vague like that.

Aren't there literally dozens of games shown off during PSX every year? And companies much, much bigger than Capcom use it to promote their games?

Lol oh man this thread is shaping up to be the biggest L this forum has taken since Trump

Yeah, but not a lot of announcements are made. Also Capcom got primo time at PSX when they were working on SFV.

That being said it's probably TLOU2 and two other things

Was just posting possibilities. There should be at least 3 reveals. Because the other panels are already planned out. So it isn't them not knowing what to display, it's them not wanting to spoil anything.

I didn't say that any of these 3 could be MVC4. But the possibility is present.
