I made the mistake to sort the comments on the /r/oculus thread to "New". I make a point to hear out trump supporters and take a look at their sources. They have a whole different sent of media that feeds them this false and skewed information.

Apparently from the comments, Hillary Clinton has killed a shitload of people through out this campaign and Trump is a respected businessman who isn't racist.

Another thing I find funny is when a Trump supporter makes a point to say they are black or "hispanic" right after regurgitating some racist conservative mumbo jumbo. It's clear some white dude pretending (I have no idea why they do this). Any black person that hears trumps knows how big of a crock of shit it is, and being a latino (Brazilian) I've literally never heard of someone referring to themselves as hispanic. Even referring to myself as latino is a stretch, we're fucking proud of our heritage, we refer to ourselves from the country our family is from.

Edit: Also on the topic of Palmer Luckey. Any other time in history I can tolerate someone being a republican because maybe at worse they're supporting the part due to a desire for lower taxes. I can respect that even if it's not my perspective. But supporting Donald Trump and his history of scamming, racism, lying, misogyny, etc. is not something I can ignore.

I was going to purchase an Oculus Rift along with a PC, but I'm switching my order to the Vive as soon as they release the next version.

I truly hope this damages his brand. These rich dick heads can't keep getting away with this.

This dude just straight up sucks, and surprisingly very stupid. It's gotta be one awkward morning at work for him.

I bet the moment he walked through the door, every single employee at Oculus gave him the stink eye. I mean like the real one, where it shows the hate and disgust for someone like Luckey.

I was looking for that infamous Palmer Luckey magazine cover when I found this one:

maxresdefault.jpg

Trump: "That Palmer Luckey. Good kid. Great kid! Great dance moves. Dancing with the Stars, watch out!! Would blow them all away. I'd watch him. Great moves!"

Also, on accident I found this, which looks like it could be the cover of some Judd Apatow movie:

I'm not sure how brilliant this guy is. He's a good engineer, but the dev kits weren't that complicated and relied a lot on things like the Unity engine.

A guy like Carmack or Abrash have long histories working on complex projects, and being lead engineers. As soon as Palmer got things going he hired the absolute right guys. But even when Abrash joined id, Carmack was still 'the guy' on that team -which is saying a lot.

No one is calling Palmer 'the guy.'

And that's fine. Zuckerberg and Gates -although talented programmers- had to step back, because they quickly found out that they made better executives than engineers. Carmack lost the company he founded because he wasn't the executive that those guys were.

Palmer has found out the hard way that making that transition isn't a slam dunk. The foundations of Silicon Valley are built on the corpses of pretty good engineers who weren't talented enough to drive technology, and weren't savvy enough to steer a company.

Well yeah, most Trump supporters live in a parallel universe where white people are the ones who should be having a WLM movement, and Obama is a Muslim terrorist, global warming doesn't exist, white genocide is a thing, Hillary has killed a bunch of people, she lies, Trump is successful, Hitler was a liberal socialist (thus proving socialism and liberalism to be the greatest evil our world has ever seen), etc. Etc. The list could go on forever.

{Sadly that entire list is legitimate. Not even joking, that's how tons of people see it.}

Apparently Palmer lives there too.

Well, that sucks. I have a close friend who's a huge part of the VR development tools/scene. I'm interested to know what he thinks of Palmer Luckey now.

The irony of a guy literally named Lucky telling a bunch of internet trolls who refer to themselves unironically as centipedes that the American Dream is real is just too much.

Sometimes I wonder if any of those claims are based in fact. I'm someone who gravitates towards taking a neutral stance and attempting to at least hear the other side out. The more I look into the alt-right and conservative perspective, it just seems like the "reporters" fall into 3 camps:

1) Delusional paranoid conspiracy theorists
2) People trying to profit off of ignorance
3) Racists disguising themselves to push an agenda.

There are only 2 reasons why Palmer Luckey could support this stuff. He's either trying to get a republican in office out of greed for lower taxes, or he is truly a racist fool.

You're forgetting

4) Nihilists who just want to watch the world burn.

This is a pretty common tactic to spew racist shit. On imgur you will often see these posts that say something clearly racist and then end with "And I am black" or start with "As a black person". Use it with a meme picture for maximum stupidity.

For example, "As a black person BLM is a racist movement" is a VERY common one that pops up ALL over the place.

I'm sure in many cases it totally is a white dude full of shit, but I think you may be underestimating how many self hating minorities are out there.

Palmer is made for life and all risks are on facebook now, sounds like a good transition to me.

"Delicious memes" makes my skin crawl too. I didn't know these people could become less attractive than they were.

Horrible.
I had a visceral reaction to that , too. I'm not even sure why, but it somehow feels like the grossest adjective they could have used.

I have thought about making a thread about this a few times, but I haven't been able to find the right angle for it to not be a shit-fest. It really is a fascinating thing on the internet. People pretend to be women, gay, minorities or whatever to give them some sort of moral standing in political conversations.

Interestingly, I know a woman who pretends to be a man on the internet. she has some interesting perspective on it.

Yet again this is an instance of hilarious (but also repulsive) hypocrisy and total lack of self-awareness.
Those types love talking about "false flags", it's their favourite rebuttal to everything that makes them look bad, or the opposition look good. Every scandal about a Republican is a false flag, every mass shooting that makes their gun loving look bad is a false flag, etc. Every Clinton supporter is a "paid shill", and so on.

Yet here they are doing an actual false flag by pretending to be other races, other genders, or pretending to be Democrats or independents, or anything they need, to make it appear as though those other people are supporting Trump or alt-right nonsense.

I've seen a sheet of actual guidelines/instructions made for them to follow to pretend to be liberal Bernie supporters who are now supporting Trump on twitter or reddit or other places (including such friendly lines as "Pretend to be concerned for n*****rs rights, the SJWs love that"). It's all to foster a fake image of the situation, even though their "Clinton has paid shills!" crap is a specific complaint about doing exactly that.

It's 100% calculated and 100% hypocritical and reprehensible.

And Trump, just about all the things he calls Hillary, he has been guilty of. The candidate is the personification of that hypocrisy.

"No u" is the primary method of argument by a nominated Republican candidate for president here in 2016.

This election is full of classic projection. Trump constantly accuses people of things he's done because he naturally assumes everyone is doing it.

@nikkimoxxi has been harassed off of Twitter by SJWs for dating Palmer Lucky. Politics are absolute cancer to this industry. #Gamergate

I hope @nikkimoxxi finds the courage to come back to Twitter.

No one should feel scared for having an opinion.

Nothing is ever their fault. You've got an alt-right army literally white-knighting you at your beck and call. Before they'd dismiss harassment, now suddenly when it hits one of their own, they're no different than the shit they rail against. Even if she wasn't harassed, they like to play the "professional victims". It's hilarious, in a way.

As a strong black woman I would appreciate a thread like that.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Makes my purchase decision easy. PSVR all the way...

That seems like to a strange dilemma to have given the Rift is not and presumably never will be PS4-compatible, Sony has yet to commit to SteamVR/OpenVR support for the PSVR and the Vive appears to be the more popular device on the PC side (and slightly better value when taking into account the included controllers).

Still like and will continue to use my Occulus.

And who knows, maybe in time you will even learn to spell it correctly.

(I do agree with the premise that if you own a Rift, by all means use it. Palmer already has your money, so you may as well make the best of things.)

Almost bought a new phone for Gear VR, I hope Samsung has a way to distance itself from Occulus.

Not sure what facebook can do to erase Luckey from the brand other then rebrading Oculus to something else and giving him the boot.
