They can totally make Sigma and Ultron the main villains in this.
This is possibly the opinion I've most disagreed with when ever I see it on Gaf lol.
Zero Art is so bad and butchers both X and Zero.
That said if it makes it so X can show up I hope they do it
There's been Marvel and DC crossover comics too, it's nothing weird.
I decided to make a roster based partly in what I'd like to see and partly in what I think is realistic. I decided to start with 44 characters (6 more characters than Vanilla MvC3 and 6 less than Ultimate) and assume there's no complications with X-Men or Fantastic Four.
Capcom:

So, from 3, we'd lose Nemesis, Wesker, Spencer, Firebrand, Hsien-Ko, Tron Bonne, Akuma, Trish, C. Viper, Ghost Rider, She-Hulk, Taskmaster, M.O.D.O.K., Super-Skrull, Phoenix, Sentinel, X-23, and Shuma-Gorath (characters that would absolutely suck to see get removed in italics), and we'd gain Nash, Demitri, Mega Man, Captain Commando, Gene, Asura, Black Widow, Ant-Man, Thanos, Starlord, Daredevil, and Black Panther.
Keep in mind I only cut characters because I don't think this game's launch roster will be as big as Ultimate's (honestly we might be lucky to see it be the same size as Vanilla's). I think we'll also probably get a Monster Hunter character this time but I don't know anything about that series so I didn't pick anyone and I have no idea who the big Resident Evil characters are right now so I just did the safe, boring option of keeping Chris and Jill. Let me know who I forgot.

I'd swap Nash for Rashid, honestly. Plus leaving out Akuma would be weird.

I don't see Resident Evil having less than 2 characters so I agree there . Even though they took so many spots in 3, they were all relatively popular. Especially wesker. I would almost say him and chris to me are shoe-ins rather than Jill. Unless they for whatever reason are gonna replace wesker with Jake.

As far as the Street Fighter characters go there's a little bit of my own bias at play I suppose. I'm not super fond of any of V's newcomers and I think Nash is really easy to justify (completely redesigned in terms of moveset and design, has a special history with the series as "Shadow" in the early installments, was in MvC2, was one of the first characters revealed in SFV and a key role in its story). As far as Akuma goes I wouldn't be surprised to see him but I'm not overly attached to him, I was pulling hard for Bison in MvC3 and if I were to add one more Street Fighter character it would probably be him, especially since he ended up being so important in V.
I think the SF characters that have a really good chance of joining Ryu and Chun-Li are Necalli, Rashid, Nash, Bison, and Akuma, but I wouldn't be confident in saying for sure if we'll see one or two of them.

Gwenpool has a high chance of replacing Deadpool since Marvel is milking the shit out of her. Squirrel Girl and Ms. Marvel have to be in the game since they are the most high profile female characters currently. Captain Marvel has to be in the game since she has an upcoming movie. Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider has a high chance of making it thanks to AoS.

I was thinking really hard about X-23 but since X-Men territory is already iffy I figured they'd be more inclined to look at other series (it's possible she could replace Storm on my roster?). I really wanted to make room for both Captain Marvel and Ghost Rider as well (they both have a great chance for sure) but with the number I gave myself I decided to mostly prioritize the MCU Avengers lineup.
MvC2 had good artwork. The in game assets however were pulled from various games and were lower quality with lower frames of animation

Also keep in mind they could pull from the current comic continuity. Have Jane Foster be Thor, Sam Wilson as Captain America, Amadeus Cho as Hulk, Riri Williams as Iron Man (or Ironheart), etc.

Needs Nero on the Capcom side. The Devil Arm and Red Queen could be amazing in a fighting game.

I'd honestly prefer this, at this point. A more focused product that could get as wild as it wants because it'd be all Marvel (and brings it back to 1 v 1 and Gems) would make me happier.
Besides, barring DMC and Monster Hunter, most of what Capcom could offer for their side likely won't set my soul ablaze anyway, so I wouldn't miss seeing Ryu and Chun-li fight Wolverine, Captain America and etc. for the umpteenth time.
