Report: Trump's call to Mexican president was done in humiliating and threatening way

In relation to this event specifically why do you wail on your president in the first line? Trump is unhinged, not knowing what to say I reckon is a healthy reaction.

You wanted him to say what he thought; " fuck You mr trump" and have this crazy guy send in an army or destroy a whole economy to repair his ego?

We are all appeasing trump now - there isn't much choice until the GOP stand up to him.

I expect something more of EPN other than "yes Mr. Trump, whatever you say Mr. Trump".

One can defend oneself without outright attacking the other.

Yeah, I read as much. Apparently the article was penned by a certain Dolia Estevez and I see it's getting a lot of coverage across a number of Mexican sites. This doesn't look good at all.

It is bewildering. It is pure insanity. It really reads like a shakedown. It's just so outright insane it's hard to believe that even Donald Trump would go that far.

Aristegui is indeed renowned, and more so with the public that's against the government and all things PRI. Just bear in mind that the original article has the intent of showing the mexican president as a total wimp.

Never heard about Dolia Estevez (the source) before.

Trump humilló a Peña Nieto; el presidente mexicano “balbuceó”: Dolia Estévez
"Trump humilliated Peña Nieto. The mexican president sttutered: Dolia Estévez"

They probably will get a good deal with the US because Trump is the type of guy that if you flatter him and play his game he will probably give you what you want lol.

Trump is not invading Mexico lololol.

This isn't a negotiation between May and Trump where she brings a golden shower for his house and its all good between them, this is going to be a negotiation between professionals assuming his administration still has them by that point, of which the UK is going to have a lot less of, this when they are already in a position of massive inferiority, I mean the UK isn't even the leading economy in the EU lol.
Also unless I'm mistaken I don't think they can even negotiate a deal in the first 2 years after they trigger article 50, so yeah the only way they are getting a good deal short of some absurdly massive incompetence from the US part, is if the US wants to actively give them a great deal to make a better case for countries that want to leave the EU, but that would be a fools errand since the UK can't just replace the EU in its economy overnight and come out ahead, it is way too entrenched for that.

I think some people just like to roll their eyes and feel superior, even though they get proven wrong time and time again. That middle man soap box feels so good. They can't resist.

The second an American tank rolls into Mexico, America burns in a sea of riots. And that's assuming the rest of the government (let alone the economic actors) are ok with that.

Trumps reaching the White House depended on the idiocy and complacency of the American people. America invading Mexico in the 21th Century would require nothing short of a declaration of war.

Better worry about the economic damage this fool is going to cause if he continues to talk shit like that in the world stage.

Fuck invading Iraq for the oil we forget, our President wants to pull all the coke out of Mexico!

Jesus Christ, I want off this country. Somebody please stop this ride.

Very respected. Dolia Estevez is the source though and she is a writer for Forbes

It is true the source could be wrong, but Aristegui has quite the track record. I don't think she would have put this forward if she wasn't quite convinced it was legitimate.

I'm gonna need Mexican-GAF to tell me if Aristegui is the real deal, because I just checked the original source and the whole conversation sounds insane.
She's the realest of deals. She was responsible for uncovering our current President's biggest scandal and has been in a respected reporter/anchorwoman for at least 30 years.

I'm only talking about her reputation which precedes her. As to this piece of news I can't confirm or deny it myself but she's not a two bit BuzzFeed blog poster if that's what you're asking.

Bullshit. Don't have time to protest. Gotta work.

Regardless of how obviously racist and shitty this man is...

His whole world revolves around his businesses. Surely he knows how many businesses need Mexican labor in order to make money and be successful. This seems like a rare case of him actually going against his own self interests.
He was taken aback by all the unemployed white working class he found in rural communities and realized he can achieve ethnic cleansing of the US without losing an infinite supply of labor.

Evading a country that people actually give a shit about has consequences, see how the Russian economy is doing, especially considering the people that can get him out of office are lets just say a bit more prone to being bribed.

If anything on that level occurs, then yes - it was always going to be.

I don't think it will come to that, though.

I didn't think we'd come to Trump either, or a Muslim refugee ban, or an executive order to start on that moronic, nonsensical, impractical, costly wall either.

"Never say never", as it were.

Care to explain. I really don't get the article myself, either. I mean, I understand it, but what exactly did Nieto do here.

Ehhh, while I'm kind of okay with this promoting nationalism. (In the sense of finally some unity in society[Mexico])

I'm not okay with politicians using nationalism to win elections in the future. Something like elections becoming "the one who hates the US more wins" contest or something.

Going by your post history during my time on GAF, you are certainly more informed on these type of issues than me so I will feel slightly better. Even with the economic damage part, lol.

Yeah I don't see how can anyone say he did something wrong. Even worse, I have no idea of why would someone focus on his answers when the other side is fucking threatning to invade his country

Fair point. I guess with the amount of Trump supporters spewing their shit I forget that there are plenty of sane people in this country sometimes.

Trump has personally made acts of war with two different countries in only 12 days.

1. Iran
2. Mexico

Remember when Obama wanted to bomb Syria and the US Public was overwhelmingly against it? The US Citizens would tear down the White House if Trump invaded Mexico. It isn't happening guys, calm down!

He bumbled like an idiot instead of, you know, standing his ground.

But...he did stand his ground, right? That's the part I don't really get. He didn't cave into any demands from what I can tell. I mean, he didn't speak strongly, I guess? But still, I feel like I'm missing something.

You think Trump thinks that ahead or gives two shits about what the public wants?

If true, how is it the Mexican president comes away with egg on his face here? Talk about forest for the trees...

People will get over their economic anxiety real quick when they are paying 10 bucks for a gallon of milk that has 21% lead in it

I don't remember, when did he threatened to bomb Syria?

With Trump at the whitehouse, the US will back to their old ways messing with South and Latin America.

I don't understand how do you think both scenarios are even remotely comparable.

My point was the US public does unite on not wanting military action, and if ever the case was being made to invade Mexico there would need to be something on the level of like Zombie Pancho Villa burning down Tucson to get the public support needed.

The article is being pushed by some media outlets that are traditionally opposed to all things Peña Nieto, trying to paint him as weak against Trump for... what exactly? I don't know. Proceso (very anti Peña and PRI) repeats Dolia Estevez' (never heard of her either) reporting that EPN apparently was left speechless at Trump's threats and stammered while trying to counter him. All through an interpreter.

I mean, ok, Peña Nieto isn't the most inspired character ever, but what the hell does one say to a President of the United States threatening to invade Mexico in the 21st Century?

Although Vicente Fox would've said "fuck you" and hung up, that's for sure.

The EU needs to start building an army like yesterday. NATO gave the US too much power worldwide.

What part of "Breitbart comes to Europe" did you not understand ;)? We have our own idiots voting for a supreme nazi idiot in every country... all funded by Uncle Puty.

Trump doesn't need public support to start a war, just to successfully engage in one. I can imagine some border clashes happening once Trump (read:. Bannon) has consolidated enough power.

I thought you were being farcical for a moment.

People need to chill their tits for a moment and think on the diplomatic repercussions of having Lickitung running the country rather than war.

When does Tillerson get to work anyway?
