Diablo 3 getting Necromancer (paid), remaking Diablo 1 in D3, new zones (free)

If they listened to fans we'd be celebrating a Diablo 2 HD announcement or an expansion for D3. This stop gap measure is poor imo.

They're not gonna drop a shitton of resources on a HD remake or a full expansion when they're putting their main efforts on D4. This is indeed a stopgap to stretch out a game that's on the verge of being sunset by next year. At least there's actual content being released rather than being completely forgotten for a year at a time like every WoW expansion after the final tier.

seasons on console is coming. that is a good news
maybe the next low effort will be to bring offline/gamepad option on pc

lmao what is this bad, bad post

console D3 rules. the PS4 version is the best version of the game

How can it be the best version when online play is filled with cheaters and hacked items? Not to mention fine aiming abilities with a controller is not possible the same way it is with a mouse.

Then it begs the question of why the big announcements for it seem like stuff that would be better suited for a game which is in its prime with many years more to go. Why is the Diablo 1 Anniversary Event an annual timed exclusive event? Why is the Necromancer DLC coming towards the end of 2017 rather than the beginning of 2017? Even as a stopgap measure, it seems really poorly spaced out.

Wow, thats so bad.
What is the Diablo team actually doing?

Imagine if Diablo 3 had modding tools and offline mode like Starcraft 2, we would have all Diablo 2 classes and full Diablo 2 and Diablo 1 remake out by now. And of course full rework of Diablo 3 mechanics ;/

with season online save will come to console...(can't be other way)
with pro we will have probably better iq/stable framerate down road too

soo the 2 flaws / pc will disapear.
the tailored gamepad gameplay (better fitted to the game imo ) will stay there.

i probably will never relaunch the game on pc when all this is there.

So I read up on the panel details and....

- The Diablo 1 thing is an Anniversary Event. It's not just a rift, but they're doing neat stuff like locking the camera more, low-res graphic filter, old school UI, 8-directional movement, and so on. But... the kicker is that it's a time limited event for Jan 2017, and they will bring it back "every Jan"... like the Overwatch seasonal events. Lol. So it's free, but it's only available one month out of 12 every year! Yay online only service gaming!

- The Necromancer is not going to be available until the second half of 2017. Wow. That's a long time for a paid DLC character addition on a game that's aging rapidly and has no new expansion in sight.

This deal is getting worse all the time..... Why seasonal?..... I can't think of any positive reason for it.

this could be huge but no e-sport, no effort.

In the end it's probably just a test run for some idea for Diablo 4's business model. Getting some basic feedback and stuff. It being poorly set up is just Blizzard being Blizzard.

Honestly I think they just didn't have anything else to announce since they're spending the bulk of their time working on Diablo 4. The fact that Necromancer while playable at Blizzcon won't be released until the 2nd half of 2017 is a big indicator that D3 content is now on the back burner.

Overall, disappointing. The fact that they're charging for the Necro makes me think the following has happened:

1. They lost their opportunity to monetize this (like all other blizzard games) when they removed the auction house and haven't come up with anything else until now. This sure feels like it wasn't in the initial plan for the game.

2. D4, if it's in development, is still early on. By releasing this 'pack' in 2H 2017 it's clear to me that D4 will not be out until 2H of 2018 at the earliest - and this is Blizzard so expect it to be further out.

It's a bummer that the D1 dungeon will be timed, but it is a free update so it's hard to complain.

Well, better than nothing I guess. Didn't even dare hoping for a new D3 Add-On after all that time. Just started playing D3 again ~2 weeks ago after spending 1000 hrs in D3 most of 2014 and 2015. Maybe the new class will bring back some other old players.

Wait, people were actually disappointed by the diablo 3 presentation?

I thought it was great, not only they listened to fans and added the best class in the franchise to D3, but they are also adding new areas to the game, which shows they intend to keep adding content to game.

Anyone who expected a Diablo 4 announcment was just deluded himself.

But they didn't do this though... the wizard was already in the game.

Worst thing is with their second half of 2017 release estimate, next blizzcon is probably gonna be:

"Well we just released the Necro!" ...and they won't even commit to doing any other changes.

Imagine if it's not even out yet by next Blizzcon. THAT would be embarrassing.

No balance updates in a while has made the game very stale.

Edit: Also heyy I'm a big boy member now! ;)

Taken from Eurogamer interview:

Armory- Switch from 5 setup un town
Rift - Bonus roll if you dont die
Crafting mats - Separate bag from inventory
New legendary powers
Challenge Rift mode - Beat x player rift time, with rewards
Seasons to consoles

Corpse explosion can blow up to 10 corpse at the same time!
You can command your skeletons, not just go where you attacking like wd
Army of the dead skill : over 125 skeleton form from the groud and explode!

Im seriously excited.

I was looking forward to d2 hd, even if it wouldn't have no limit hell cows and Soj economy. I guess I'm fine with the d1 rift thing and necro but I wasn't expecting them to be so far away.

If it gives them time to perfect the random hacker joining your game and dropping dupes in town for that authentic d1 bnet experience I'm happy.

I'm pretty excited about the necro and made this pretty silly reaction to it.

I am bummed he isn't out til late next year but like, I had to block comments from angry people telling me to kill myself because I'm excited for the class. People take shit too far sometimes.

These are nice additions, but I hate that they are not doing something to target some major issues I and many others have with the game, mainly the itemization and endgame paragon level grind.

1) Itemization has potential, but class sets ruined it. Fucking 6 piece sets rule over nearly everything. They taken a first step in the LoN sets that lets player use other non-sets to not completely suck, but in reality, LoN is very niche and doesn't remotely fair as well as just putting on 6 piece class sets. As a result, build diversity is limited.

2) Paragon level grind is BORING, and yet OP. Endgame becomes a matter of grinding for EXP instead of farming truly rare, epic loot, theorycrafting fun and yet effective unique builds.

3) Why is solo play is much worse than group play? I'm okay that group play offers the advantage of class buffs and roles of dps/zdps, but it seems like the exp and monster health/damage are all scaled to be much more in favor of group games.

4) And with that, only 4 char per party, meaning only select 2 or 3 classes get to be in the metagame, others are just gonna have to suck it. The number needs to be raised.

5) Bring trading and actual PK back for more things to do in endgame.

Necro seems to have been clearly meant for the cancelled second D3 Xpack and this is their way of getting him in rather than blueball the audience.

Diablo 4 still has to be a long way off if they're releasing the Necromancer mid to late next year.

Damn, this all looks really good.

As a relative newcomer to the Diablo games, what sort of price would they normally ask for something along the lines of the Necromancer update?

Eh, at least they haven't abandoned it.

If they want to get away from the expansion model and treat D3 more like a service, I think they should indicate that these type of packs are going to continue at a reasonable clip.

I get the negativity but these changes all sound great. I'm excited again for Diablo 3. The Armory in particular is a godsend.

So this is baseless speculation on my part, though I might actually be able to find out the real story asking a few friends, but I'm guessing the expansion they had planned got cancelled in..late spring (May/June) leaving them scrambling with what to do about Blizzcon. That's around the time we started seeing job listings for Diablo work. So we can guess they started work on D4 around early summer which means there was absolutely zero chance they had anything at all to show for Blizzcon for it outside of maybe a logo and some basic information.

They figured for the 20th anniversary this was not satisfactory so they scrambled to shotgun out the anniversary maps (with reused assets as you can see from the media shots) and introduce the Necromancer. I think the huge delay on the Necro is down to the female model (they said that the female model was very early in development and they didn't have anything to show for her except key art). I'm of the opinion that if putting out a different gender model delays your character for six months, you're really better off not doing it at all (or releasing it for free for those that buy the pack at a later date).

So really it's a perfect storm of terrible terrible circumstance. Their expansion got canned, they didn't have enough to show of the new game to satisfy people so they did what they thought was best. I'm personally of the feeling that if this was all they had for Diablo, they'd be better off showing a logo and some key art of D4 as opposed to throwing out half assed content for a game that's had the same exact gameplay for five seasons now. I was pretty angry about this yesterday but I've had the chance to sleep on it so now I'm just severely disappointed. I know why they did what they did but it really felt like a slap in the face to those of us who were super excited for a huge announcement.

They are also working on others things as they said in the video. Well know more tonight! Yes paragon can be a bit boring, but challenger mode could add something.

Im still liking the game!

This is all seeming pretty likely, although to be fair people got themselves keyed up about a possible D4 announcement.

Well, the way I put it...Imagine if your spouse hypes up your 20th wedding anniversary as a huge event and goes "Oh man I've got all this awesome stuff planned! It's gonna be great and it'll blow you mind!". You get excited right? So you come home and you see a can of tomato soup and a slice of white bread. Then you find out it's gonna take four hours to make it.

Blizzard doesn't usually hype up announcements without just cause so this was really unusual for them. The only thing that makes sense is an internal production disaster.

After this will the console version have parity?

Unobjectively speaking, how is Diablo 3 on consoles? I spend 8+ hours a day on the computer for work, so I'm a bit tired of looking at a PC screen and kb/m when I get home. And my home theater is a much better setup than my computer room. I have the game for the PC, but it's probably been 2 years since I've played it last. So, if I can sit on the couch and Diablo, then that is preferred.

No, Diablo on console isn't the best at anything
It's the best Diablo experience with a controller :)

I really do prefer console version, and I'm a guy that took a week and a half of vacation time to play D3 at launch in 2012.
It's all about preference and a lot of people prefer the game with a controller.

Let say that before i sold my Ps4, only games i would regret not having anymore were Bloodborne and Diablo 3. It play flawlessly, density is amazing, control is great, and you get all the patch from pc. You also have some extra for ps4 , a rift with Last of Us monsters. And now, they really confirmed Seasons is amazing, no more cheaters.

Its an amazing couch experience. Im playing now on pc, i like it, but couch Diablo is very cool and i could miss it sometime. If you have a PS4 or X1, dont hesitate, its great. Only one bug that doesnt seem to have patch yet and strange one, is when crafting Corruption shoulders for my WD, well, its not appearing. The item seem not craftable. Beside that, ntohing is wrong with the game.
