The remake is free? Aww yesss!

Couldn't care less about the necromancer though.

They couldn't get away with charging for what this "remake" actually is.

I am pretty sure they are making D4 but it is going to take them more than they would like to, so they put a small part of the team to make new patches for D3 to keep people interested. From the things they showed in the panel and the early stages the Necromancer is it is obvious they haven't been developing this for more than 2 months.

Yeah, it does seem like it was thrown together for Blizzcon.

Really blown away with how little they had been working on for the anniversary. I love arpgs and have played tons of poe and D3 but wow when you compare content patches in poe to D3 it isn't even close.

I just hope that it was only lame because they are hard at work on D4.

To be fair we do still know they've been hiring for a new Diablo game. Just not ready to show yet.

But I agree it's brutal the lack of support Diablo seems to get.

I'm fine with that, but this whole thing is so half assed. The expansion got canned for whatever reason and they scrambled to have anything to show.

I honestly feel like showing nothing but a logo for Diablo 4 and adding 1/2 to BNET would be better than what they did. Instead we get a one month event and a character probably 10-12 months out. It's a shame.

Personally just the Necromancer class coming back makes this a win for me, even if I have to pay...but yeah if I weren't so hyped about the class this would be admittedly underwhelming.

To all the people here complaining I would like you to think how many great patches and support we got after the release of Reaper of Souls. Yes Blizzard might seem a bit lazy right now but they more than made up with it with 4 huge patches that completely changed and improved the game massively and all of them were free, so I think we should cut them some slack.

I only bothered to get one stash upgrade. Doing those stupid conquests every season would destroy my soul.

Huge patches.

Changed some numbers.

Yeah greater rifts, legendary gems, new areas, kanai's cube etc were all just number changes. Reaper of souls had the best free support I have seen from any company. It's not like they had to do it or make it for free.

Legendary gems and Kanai's cube are some of the laziest shit I've ever seen.

In HC, you can't even make the gems drop a second time. Fuck you if you ever die I suppose.

Umm, yeah.. after reading through the OP again, it's only a dungeon filled with D1 bosses? Lame.

Is there no other info yet about the 'remake'? Like screens or trailer.

They showed a bit during the last panel. It honestly doesn't look much different. I was expecting them to make a map that resembled the first floor of the Cathedral, but it just looks like the tileset used in Diablo 3.

2nd half of 2017 how fucking long does it take to make a character for a Diablo game? Especially one who you already have the blue print done?

More laziness.

Seriously some tilesets in D3 now are just color changes of each other.

What they didn't tell us is the 4 people on stage represents the entirety of the current Diablo 3 team.

And at first they only planned to add some music, smh.

they just re-used the assets from that area from the expansion with stone doors and vases filled with blue souls, can't remember the name

All I wanted was a Diablo 1/2 port with a good UI, and the ability to actually render at resolutions from this decade. Not this.

I am so freaking excited for both of these things. I am just disappointed I have to wait so long to play the necro. But I can't wait to dive into Diablo 1 again in my d3. I loved the original back in 1996, and must have replayed it continuously til d2 came out. It will be fun to jump in a new version of the old content.

There is ample thematic irony in Blizzard employing a Skeleton crew to build a Necromancer, but this is a bit much even for them.

Hell, we've seen Titan Quest, of all things, revive up admirably in the recent past---why can't the aged kings of this genre get some resources to refine their legacy anew? It isn't like we're asking the universe for the impossible here like a Prince of Qin HD or some such...

Thanks for the update.

So the tristram cathedral dungeon will be open once a year. ... hmmmm..... reused assets too? .. hmmmm...

Cant say these updates pull be back into playing

A little disappointed, hoped they went for a "fresh slate" with D4.

With competitors as Path of Exile and Grim Dawn they really need to "up the ante", compared to these D3 seems really shallow.

But this (sadly) probably dosent matter, between the "casual" and the "fans" why would they make their game more deep, making it less appealing for the core audience.

Note*: if your are on noegaf, you probably ain't the core audience they are looking for.

Justs s dream; a game with the depth of PoE and the polish of Blizzard.

I would love the idea of a complete remake of Diablo, or even just a recreation of it in the Diablo III engine, including the classes, abilities, story, loot tables, etc. That doesn't sound like this is what they are doing. This is still pretty cool, especially considering it's free of charge, but I would certainly have paid good money for a Diablo remake...

That would require effort.

I think it comes down to cash. They only pour dev time into games with steady revenue streams like loot boxes in Overwatch, packs in HS, subscriptions in WoW, skins and heroes in Hots. D3 was supposed to have the real money AH but community revolt shut it down. It doesn't seem to be enough that they sold millions of copies of D3. Unless the game has some kind of micro-transaction or sub it gets a skeleton crew.

I expect they are probably making d4 and it will be a similar model to poe where you buy skill effects and character skins but unlike poe you will probably still have to buy the game.

Knowledge is power, guard it well
Once the RMAH was shut down, Blizz lost interest in D3. They're all about constant revenue streams.

Wow, the necromancer isn't until mid 2017? If its going to be that dang long just make an expansion! No reason it should take that long for 1 class.

How long does it take? I'm guessing you're a game devoloper, so you must know how long it takes.

Really, the D3 community is so damn negative all the time. I don't think they'd be happy with anything

necro being paid makes me sad bc I doubt it'll be like $5

and yeah never played d1 or d2 but I'd rather have d2 remade and without the art style of d3

oh well

2nd half of 2017 specifically, so mid would be the earliest. And it's Blizzard we're talking about.

Pathetic they won't add buyable character slots or stash stpce. Both of their handling have shown it's driven fans away where as mts would easily bring in more money.

I'm sick doing seasons for stash space, but am at the max this season and can go back to regular grinding soon enough.

Can I send you a hooker?

Sums up my continued thoughts on the pathetic development of this game as it ages. In spite of all the crap they have I still come back to any of the titles every few years just cause there's not much else, though grim dawn has my eye and TQ updated isn't so shabby for certain builds now.
