Regarding Pokemon Ownership:

1UP: Can you explain how the Pokémon ownership situation works? I've asked people at Nintendo of America and they can't really explain it to me. I know there's Creatures, there's Game Freak, there's Nintendo, there's the Pokémon Company, but I don't know exactly which company does what and who plays what role. It's all very confusing...

HT: So Game Freak and Creatures are the developers, and Nintendo is the publisher. The Pokémon Company is like the producer, they're the agency of the franchise.

1UP: So they don't actually create the games, they sort of are the public face...?

HT: The Pokémon Company would be like the face of the franchise, yes. They talk with Nintendo and decide schedules and things like that.

1UP: What creative role would you personally, and Creatures in general, play in the creation of each game? You said that Creatures and Game Freak are the developers, but how does that break down exactly? Who does what when you create a new Pokémon game?

HT: The mainstream games are created by Game Freak, and then Creatures creates the card games, mainly. But the games that Game Freak doesn't create, Creatures often works on. The 3D modeling for Pokémon is all created within Creatures, too. The 3D modelings will be used in the card games, in the actual games, in commercials, everything else.

1UP: Do you play a role in the design and the development of new monsters, or is that done at Game Freak?

HT: Game Freak thinks up the original monsters, the creatures.

1UP: Why is Creatures a separate company from Game Freak?

HT: Originally, Game Freak was making the games and Creatures was the production company. Creatures were the people talking to Nintendo about stuff. Because they were playing different roles, that's probably why they were different companies. The Pokémon Company is in charge of bringing the franchise to the movies and anime and stuff like that. Nintendo isn't related to that part at all. That's why it's so complicated and there's so many companies involved.

That's not the main show, it was a promo video made exclusively to advertise the game...thus, due to its brevity, it had better animation.

The show's pretty nice looking in Best Wishes, but it's also gotten a bit stale when it comes to animation fluidity.

Aside from using "gay" as a perjorative, this is my favorite Pokemon fandom comic EVER.

Also, quick question cause we have nothing else to talk about so why not: Am I the only Pokemon fan who just doesn't care at all about the story? The games could have no plot aside from "beat the gyms and the Elite 4" and I'd be totally happy. I don't care about any of the main characters, gym leaders, or villains, either. I have way more attachment to the random trainers like Pokefreak Pete or whatever.

Well, that's because it's a five-minute special...there's no way to have that animation quality in a weekly series like Pokemon.

The anime DOES occasionally have pretty nice animation when the Animation Director is Iwane, though, that probably matches that. It's just not condensed into five-minutes like that, but rather spread out.

It's seemed obvious to me that Gen VI would be for this year ever since Genesect was revealed.

You're right. It's not too early at all.

Although usually it's around 3 years 9 months or so, placing a new gen at June 2014, Nintendo needs the 3DS boost right now.

See the problem is that that picture is obnoxious - it's like if you ask someone who is a poke-fan who hates Digimon draw what a Digimon looks like - and you'll end up with a monster that wouldn't even fit with Digimon. That's the problem I see in that pic - it implies that Gen V designs are like that. There is nothing loud or over-designed on the ice cream, garbage, or gear Pokemon for example. If anything you could argue similarly to Kadabra (what's with the brown armor and stache!) and the like.

Essentially that pic is about a generation 1 fanboy asking to draw how a later generation would draw his precious mons.

Yeah, the picture isn't literal, and I don't take it that way. Its more of a parody, it points out perceived flaws and then blows them out of proportion while still making a point. The point, IMO, is the new designs are a little too out there in both colors and 'accessories'. I just prefered the slightly more muted, earthy look of Gen 1 and 2.. that said, there are old designs I don't like, and new designs I do like.
