Sorry, Drive Club is the worst looking Sony exclusive.

Bad framerate, pop in everywhere, foliage looks like ass, very unpolished looking:

Very disappointing, and now the whole "it's free with PSN" is starting to make sense. So far I'd definitely would give the edge to Forza.

The screenshots released a while back are not indicative of what the game actually plays like. Infamous/Killzone poop all over this.

From that blurry off cam view you can tell how good looking the game is? Give me a break OP. Stick to your forza then with no night mode and weathers.

This is what I've expected, particularly with 3rd party games. I'm just not seeing it yet. I expected things to be noticeable pretty immediately with the PS4 not having the difficult Cell architecture the PS3 had, which frustrated 3rd party devs before.

We'll see, though. I'm sure what Jack is saying will be true, if not at launch, then soon after. But I'll give MS credit for so far bringing the graphics. I think everybody expected Sony to shade them here, but they haven't yet, and thats impressive to me.

We're getting pretty far off-topic now, sorry.

You do have to wonder why every third party's next gen title was demoed on PS4...

Most of those next gen 3rd party games were demoed on pc, not ps4. Also to say if drive club only had to do day it could match the forza 60 fps isn't exactly true in itself. After all forza still have to calculate all the simulation physics, while drive club is doing the arcade thing.

I don't have a clue what the game will be like by what we saw. This and the Knack thread are they just Xbox fanboys trollin'?

What the showed looked really bad noticed the pop in and lod issues also even in the off-screen video. The 30% finished is not a valid excuse when release is 6 months or less away.

I saw the game, I played it, I enjoy a lot. In the meanwhile you can enjoy the "awesome" vid or the terrible one, just please, remember this : the vid will never show how good is a game in real life.

knack and driveclub? probably not yet but they can still be improved, but they are, without a doubt as of now, the worst looking of the 4 main february games.
infamous and killzone shadow fall already show what he's talking about, they look gorgeous.

Really? Really? You can tell from this blurry off cam video with shitty compression? Stop trolling xbot. I'll wait for direct feed to make a judgement.

Funny how those same shitty compressed off screen videos are used to claim GT6 looks super duper awesome amazing and used to claim Forza 5 looks like ass...

It's pretty underwhelming.

I played just about all the next-gen racing games today, and DriveClub is the least impressive of the bunch.

The worst looking Sony exclusive award goes to Knack though.

Pretty ironic.

How is it trolling when there is video evidence that the game doesnt look very good? You dont need a 1080p video to see that there is very bad pop in the environment.

Haha, rationalizations incoming!

Graphics are all about tricks. What matters is how it actually looks. Forza may lack dynamic day and night and weather, but man, you really dont want to play the 'who has the most features' game with a Forza Motorsport title. Its usually not a winning battle unless your name is Gran Turismo.

But I see this is devolving into a Sony vs Microsoft thing now. I'll bow out. I've got little interest in this fanboy bullshit.

It's not fanboy rationalizations. It's relevant information if people are questioning why a game on a system with "better specs" doesn't look better than a xbox one game with "lower specs". If you are going to start saying how you expected to see a difference because the PS4 is suppose to be more powerful, it matters that a dynamic lighting system requires more power to pull off when comparing the games.

Now, discussing why a racing game would need dynamic day/light cycles is another story not related to how much power a system has.

It looks good to me. Forza 5 looks much better though. I do wonder how the average consumer is going to interpret the graphical difference between this and Forza 5 if they are both out on day one.

The higher price point plus the 'better looking' racing game might convince the average Joe that the Xbox One has the superior hardware (hahah).

I do wonder how good a Motorstorm game would look on the PS4 though. No doubt it'd look brilliant. That series really won me over with Pacific Rift. Hopefully the series doesn't die with close of the PS3 era.

I haven't seen one clear quality video of DRIVECLUB yet, but one thing I've noticed was the dynamic sky and light, and how the clouds really were different at each video and that affected the shadows on the track. Couple that with different and dynamic weather, plus passage of time, we might see something spetacular there.
I couldn't tell much about the handling, but it seems set on 'drift control'. :p

As of now I find Gran Turismo 6 the most pleasant art direction of all (again, aside promo videos, I haven't seen DC properly). Willow Springs is looking fantastic and the apparent night/day/weather for plenty of tracks coupled with the new physics makes me very giddy for it.

Yeah, I'm disappointed. That frame rate...ouch. And nothing in the gameplay we've seen looks unique or interesting. It's a stop gap until GT6 on PS4.

Yeah, if Forza doesn't have the dynamic day/night cycle or dynamic weather of drive club, then it really isn't as impressive as it looks. All the lighting in the environment could just be pre-baked. Just a cheap trick, possibly.

Gran Turismo uses tricks for almost all of their lighting - and people think it looks amazing. It doesn't really matter what tricks you use as long as your game looks good - see Halo 4 - so many visual tricks and cheats but it all results in one of the best looking games ever (campaign). Day/night dynamic games tend to never look as good as fixed lighting ones. PGR4 didn't have dynamic lighting but they built separate tracks for day/night/afternoon etc. and nobody cares that it wasn't dynamic because it looked visually amazing. If it means less cars and tracks, I'd never want night time or weather instead.

i'd say Knack, i was really hoping for something special from that one and the playthrus looked mediocre or worse. This i havent had any hopes for, with boring environments and a lame middle road between arcade and sim. Half ass games turn out half ass usually.

Worst looking Sony Exclusive just happens to use the highest car model poly count of any game - so says the game director.

Looking at the cars themselves, Rodgers revealed they are “the highest definition models ever used in a game.”

He then touted the graphical power of the PlayStation 4, even going so far as to say that they’ve simulated clouds so perfectly “that they could be used in scientific research.” Also, they’ve modeled the time of day “so accurately, that if you chose to, you could play a track at 4:22am in Antigua and it’d be perfect.” Not only that, the view distance goes on for miles and miles, which is actually game landscape you can drive to, with Col saying “never before has there been anything like this in a game.”

Are people really complaining about pop in, 5 months from launch?

And anyone that thinks it should be perfect at this stage of development need to look at black flag presentation again.

All of the racing games look uninteresting. Nothing gamechanging has come out of that genre since Split Second incorporated Mario Kart powerups (which wasn't that innovative).

I thought F5 and DC were both unimpressive. F5 Rome track has comically simple geometry. DC just looks wholly middling. None of the next-gen racers surpass current gen PC ports imo.

Having just looked at your posting history I'm not particularly surprised you feel this way. I read about 50 pro MS and anti Sony posts in a row...

I have no idea if Drive Club is good or not, but lets not shit ourselves here - you were never going to like it.

Eh, I think it looks fine. Making a launch title and working with beta hardware is very difficult. They probably had to cut out a lot of time just to get things together for E3.

Well, it's better than the Club Drive at least!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1FGK0FW2SQ

listen to that fart track. also, is this description accurate??
Club Drive is a cart game for the Atari Jaguar.
You are supposedly in the distant future where cars have been created to be virtually indestructible after having a law in place that banned cars, because of the lack of complete safety.
In any case, many people agree this is one of the worst games on the Jaguar.
I have to say I sort of enjoyed it when I played it during the Jaguar's prime, but it wasn't something that I had to play.
The sound effects aren't really impressive, in fact, the engine sound is annoying.
I imagine one of the good things about the game is the "Tag" feature, where you literally play tag with a 2nd player by running into them. Multiplayer action always makes games more fun.

Right. I guess you missed the dozen or so posts I've made in the last week criticizing the MS 24-hour nanny checks, pricing and stupid messaging. Also the ones about TLOU = GOTY?

Can we possibly hold opinions not motivated by fanboy BS? I guess no huh?

All graphics and what not aside. Does anyone here think that the team based Driving system in Drive Club is something that will catch on and be the next big thing in racing games? Or will it flop and never be used in racers again?

Seriously, though, have people forgotten Motorstorm at E3 and TGS 2006? You know, when they showed the actual game for the first time? It looks absolutely shockingly bad. It was running at sub-30 fps with all sorts of visual problems. By the time it launched, however, it was actually a beautiful game running at a consistent framerate. There was an enormous difference between the first showing and the final game.

They better be pushing over 1 million polys than.

That's the benchmark FM4 set with autovista.

And FM5 is FM4s photomode models + 20% so that is 600,000 or more I'm pretty sure.

I don't understand the sentiment running through this thread. I think it looks incredible considering that it's pretty much a pre alpha build. Polishing up a small segment of game just for one show takes up a significant portion of time and that work generally can't be re used into the final product. I can understand why they're showing it the way it is. They're probably all in full on crunch mode right now and taking time away for a demo would probably throw them off target for launch. No reason to complain about this at all IMO, looks great for the state it's in.
