It's just an extra layer of protection. People type a certain way like they write a certain way, I guess he doesn't want anyone to get any clues of who he is.
It's not meant to be difficult for us to "decode".

I still don't see how CBoaT was wrong in implying that Titanfall wouldn't be a technical showcase for the Xbox One, much less for next gen.
So he was off by 72p, and maybe lacked confidence in the engine to push higher quality textures by time of release, but at least he kept those issues at the forefront of the discussion, whereas other outlets would have been all too happy to sweep them under the rug as if informing the gamer is no longer the main purpose.

If all CBoaT had said was that the resolution would be below 900p, he would still have been correct and still would have caused an uproar. If CBoaT didn't say anything about the textures at all, he'd have been unscathed, but at least he made sure we'd be paying attention to it. CBoaT's only mistake was he got too specific.
Honestly, it's like a witch hunt for somebody, who's a boon to the community by sharing those details that may otherwise never leak out, that we would sorely miss.

Not all rumors will be true. Not all information gotten from other sources will always be entirely accurate. I always thought his posts were made with the disclaimer that what was said was highly possible but not necessarily the intractable truth. Failing to take that into consideration is not his fault.

Considering how often he was right, I think he should get a "get out of jail free" pass this time around. I know he was very convinced about the resolution in his previous comments, but everyone can make mistakes. Considering the amount of early info we got thanks to him, maybe we should cut him some slack.

Use short phrases.

Be that as it may, CBOAT's posts, presumably typed out using his forehead (I'm joking), achieve the desired result (continued anonymity), are relatively easy to decipher for those familiar with his style, and are deciphered by those familiar with his style expressly for those who are unfamiliar with his style. There's no sense in him changing things up just because "it's stupid"; in fact, doing so would itself be stupid.
Game looks fine for a fast paced multiplayer shooter that can have 30+ characters on the screen at once.
Had no trouble picking off players at a distance or seeing what was going on in the beta. I like the look of the game, especially the surrounding environments/scenery.
A lot of those stills look like ass but that one looks really nice, I just think it's one of those games where they shouldn't release stills, but hey least they're not bullshotting stills like Ubisoft.
Not particularly; NeoGaf is a community. Like any community, people's opinion who have been around the longest tend to have heavier weight.

It's a board where people come for news, not conjecture. People say something significant on gaf and it'll be on many videogame news sites within hours.
GAF got to be one of the most visited websites on the internet because it is a place you can really trust most of the publicly readable information, rather than letting people spout whatever they made up as the truth.

I'm a big fan of CBOAT's past work (leaks). Despite that I think his/her punishment should be severe. S/he should be banned for at least one month.
It helps to keep the integrity. That way no one gets to dispute or obfuscate the facts.
He was not wrong just once. His track record since E3 has being sketchy.

I do (I did read the OP). However, it's not the severity of the ban, but the ban itself, that I'm not sure justifies risking the alienation of the only solid leak who doesn't show up for one day and then disappears forever.
Whether you make the ban one day or two or three, it's still pushing him away, reprimanding him publicly for something that in the end isn't even that reprehensible. 792p isn't some astronomically significant upgrade over 720p, and these textures aren't exactly blowing anyone's mind with unforeseen amounts of detail, even for a multiplayer game.
Yes, this is worse than when he was wrong about Prince of Persia, but at least he never said the game is going to be coming to PS4 or something that would really have riled up the forums.
Well...at least some of it has to be fanaticism. Dude literally said for Xbox fanatics to clean his ass out with their tears, lol. Along with leaking mostly negative stuff about MS lately and seemingly reveling in it. On the other hand it's not shocking some of the posters that hold him up as their hero for the exact same reason.
Everyone else in the middle just hopes that he continues to deliver and has more hits than misses.

We should not be bending rules for anyone. That sets a bad precedence. If this means we never hear from CBOAT again, then that's fine. I would rather have leakers I can trust.

I can understand why he should be banned and to be honest, he probably deserves it. When someone is that adamant about something that's repeatedly been proven false, it seriously tarnishes their reputation. This wasn't him just dropping some info and waiting for it to be made official (i.e PS4 release date); he wouldn't let it go. Not to mention his constant teasing of "ass storm" which he promised to reveal soon after the Xbone launch as well as other vague things he couldn't prove and were probably never as big an issue as he said.
I was a believer before, but he's clearly lost his way or he has indeed been discovered by MS and they're using his account to destroy his credibility.

This here. Out of the million times he's been correct and now people want to act like he has to be right all the time. He was incorrect about something else last year and people pushed it aside. Now this is like OH MAI FACKING JEEZ TEH ENDZZ!!!!

And it's not like this resolution is helping the game either lol.
There were also the yield issues for which we have no evidence of being true. On the contrary, they upped the clock speeds. Then we have the wrong PS4 release date. After that he vaguely predicted an ass-storm that never came, unless he meant resolution gate. He was most probably exaggerating the XBL problems, though. And now we have this Titanfall debacle.
As I said, I still appreciate people like CBoaT. However, we should all be more skeptical now about such info.

The broader issue is that he doubled-down on his info even when evidence to the contrary began mounting. As an "insider" he's responsible for ensuring the veracity of any absolute claims he makes.
Well, if that's the case, so then ban him permanently? Set a precedent that you can never be wrong ever about anything?
ntkrnl promised a Titanfall-skinned Xbox One for the mass market and now that's not happening so do you still trust him? "B-b-but he's a controlled leaker." Well, ok, but then we'd still be bending the rules for someone.
I'm not for drawing hard lines like that. At this point, CBoaT should probably just be done with us anyway.

It's not a serious issue. Thats why his ban is temporary, not permanent. However, the rules still apply to cboat like they do to everyone else.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about leaker culture (I'm an expert), but truthfacts and accountability are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in games journalism where you can become successful by lying to your audience. If you mislead someone as a leaker, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is that GAF, after hearing about this, is not going to trust CBOAt's posts again, nor will they give him credit for earlier, correct, leaks. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but CBOAT has alienated an entire forum with this move.
CBOAT, publicly apologize and stop posting anything negative or disparaging about Xbox One or any of its Games or you can kiss your account goodbye.

This. If we treated CBoaT's posts as rumblings coming from the inside instead of the divine words of a prophet then this would be no big deal. The issue is the weight people have put behind CBoaT.
I'm glad he is not permabanned, but I hope this issue makes everyone lend a more critical eye to leaks in the future.
