Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
If this is a Switch announcement, is it then a subsequent blowout at E3?

It's possible? I think Monster Hunter XX only communicates between the Switch and 3DS over the internet, right?

Monster Hunter 3U communicated via ad-hoc between the Wii U and 3DS but required an ethernet adapter for online play, right?

The Monster Hunter thing being online only is one of the stronger pieces of evidence that Pokémon isn't going to be on Switch until Gen VIII. I find it really doubtful Game Freak would release a Pokémon game that couldn't locally communicate with others of the same generation.

The only thing that might sway me towards a pokemon stars being a 3DS only title would be if Nintendos E3 presence is switch only focussed, so they're getting this announcement out of the way before that so as not to spend any time on the 3DS in their E3 presentations.

If they can't do local wireless between Switch and 3DS, then the chances of multiplatform release (or even a Switch-only release for that matter) are pretty low. Local multiplayer is Pokémon's bread and butter.
Going off of MHXX, the Switch & 3DS can apparently only do online cross-play.

I will still say that it will be Sun/Moon 2, Red/Blue 2, or Diamond/Pearl remakes for 3DS. Its too soon for Pokemon on Switch and 3rd versions don't make sense anymore so I say the Stars rumor is bogus. We shall see soon enough tho.

See how salty you are over a specific generation of Pokemon getting attention? I mean how petty do you have to be to be upset about a generation of Pokemon getting attention. I mean, you literally just broke down me saying fans like gen 1 and wrote an argument against it. I like all the pokemon gens, FYI, whereas you clearly have a vendetta against gen 1... I mean, really with this shit? :

Since the rest of your post spends more time deflecting, complaining over obnoxiousness, being borderline incomprehensible and just going off on unrelated tangents I'll just respond to this little gem of a paragraph here.

Where on earth did this narrative of saltyness and gen 1 hate come from? I mean c'mon. You repeat it ad nauseum when I've made it clear I welcome references to the entire series including spin offs and have no problem with gen 1 itself. You made a post and I replied to it. Here's me thinking spending a few minutes to make it easily readable would be welcome yet you somehow interpreted that as a vendetta of all things. Talk about a martyr complex. Tell me, why did you post if you didn't want anyone who disagreed to reply?

I'm not gonna bother debating with you any further as you keep putting words in my mouth and in general are just not interested in a discussion at all. But the bottom line is, the games IMHO should not be so lopsided to gen 1 when there's such a vast range of places and people they could use and there isn't a good counterpoint to that beyond "but it's the first gen!".

I guarantee you it's Stars. The only question now is, Switch, 3DS, or both? I'd love to be wrong but I can't see Stars being anything but a 3DS or 3DS/Switch game. It makes no sense for it to be a Switch exclusive when the Switch didn't even get Sun and Moon.

The same rumor that gave us Stars said it's a Switch game that was developed alongside the 3DS games. If it's Stars I would expect it to be Switch only.

Again, the Black and White being released on DS post 3DS launch simply isn't a factor here - it ran on the 3DS too so wouldn't really effect sales. Nintendo won't want a Christmas where 3DS outsells Switch because it's got a Pokemon exclusive and that could feasibly happen I reckon.

Dual screen on DS/3DS peaked with VIth gen.
Patently useless in SunMoon out of pokeami :/

These are two excellent points in favour of Stars for Switch that lots of people tend to obviate.

We'll see tomorrow. My money is on 3DS + Switch. It's both the wiser and safer option all things considered.

I wonder when Stars for Switch would release. Nintendo seems to be priming SMO as the big holiday game, while a Pokémon game, even a third version, would be a similar event in terms of size.

in holiday 2013 nintendo released a link between worlds, pokemon x and y, and super mario 3ds world all within 1 months time span with zelda and mario releasing the same day they give zero fucks.

granted, it was 3DS and Wii U, but ORAS and Smash 4 launched the same weekend, so it's not that crazy.

I know it's inevitable that it's mainly a port of Sun/Moon but it would be crazy if they also revealed a sequel to this Pokemon game that plays like it on the switch:

I wouldn't know if I would be happy or disappointed.

EDIT: I'll be happy

Whatever is coming, it won't be a port

It won't be a straight port ofc, but for me, the notion of Stars being Switch exclusive only made sense if it was basically the same game as Sun and Moon, and thus not being much reason to release again on 3DS.

So personally, if the Switch exclusivity is confirmed, I imagine main story of Sun Moon with new post game content that also gets released for Sun Moon on 3DS in some form. Well, we'll know soon I guess!

The initial reports of them doubling production came in March, and some estimates put that process of ramping up production at taking around 4-5 months to really increase the available stock. The WSJ article about the NAND flash shortages was written in a way to suggest that they won't be able to hit their ~20m unit production target this FY, not their 10m unit guidance.

Right now the rate they're shipping corresponds to that 10m unit guidance, so once the actual increased production begins to show up we will see much higher shipments, and I'm estimating that'll be around July when Splatoon 2 releases, since they actually are releasing Switch bundles.

Also it's worth noting that Nintendo gets their NAND flash storage from both Toshiba and Samsung, so having two suppliers makes that a bit less of a constrained part than the WSJ article was making it out to be.

Adding to this, the 10M units is actually an additional 10M, so the 12.7M that Nintendo expects to ship this FY won't be affected by that WSJ article.
