looking at the data, it would seem that like this is not going to be a new game announcement.

Game Freak usually announce 10 months prior to release right?

But then during Sun & Moons PR, we saw "HD renders" of pokemon and a pokemon center (?), so they could have had a team working on it during S&M development.

So i'm staying hopeful, but not too hopeful. :)

It's a possible third version game though, not the release of a new generation or remake.

Stars will probably be a Red&blue sequel (taking place after sun moon) or a simple sequel to sun moon in alola.

Guys, they wouldn't do a Direct for a spin-off, even a mobile spin-off.

I get tempering expectations, but let's not be silly.

Masuda retweeted, he only does for major game announcement.

Pokken Switch would make me happy since I've never played Pokemon outside of Puzzle League and Smash Bros. I do understand the magnitude this would have. Switch would outsell PS4 LTD in Japan in a year.

There is no consistent number of months before release that they always announce. Its just usually early in the year or in the spring before e3

Did you guys get to the end of Sun/Moon? Dont wanna spoil anything but there for some spoiler reasons I was thinking Kanto second region
I haven't played it because I wanted to wait to see if a third version was happening on Switch; but I'd take that too. Adding Kanto to stars would be awesome

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
YEEESSSSSSSSSS SON!
I was thinking, it's true Sinnoh is deserves remake, and while it's my favourite region, I can't help but think we'll be going to Kanto instead. Not just because of the hints present in SM, but FRLG did come out before D/P/Pt, so technically Kanto should be next.
It's just due to the fact they were already remakes that I never really thought about it.

Im not the biggest fan of Kanto, but I can't help but get hyped to see what they have in store for us, and the fact that it's very likely to be a sequel. Even my jaw would drop seeing Kanto 20 years in the future.

Why do I have to be at work tomorrow :(...

Imagine Splatoon 2, Dragon Quest XI, Monster Hunter XX and Pokémon Stars on Switch in Japan.

Oh lord.

Oh sweet baby jesus

Watch it be Stars on 3DS :p

Nintendo can't even produce enough Switches without Pokemon being a thing for it... If people want pokemon and can't get a Switch and have to wait months for it this is not going to end well lol...

A new Red/Blue remake?

...Thinking on it, it has been a while since players got to travel to Kanto. 7 years now, and while I still is somewhat overplayed in the franchise, it would be an obvious way to capitalise on the nostalgia for the original generation that Pokémon GO stoked up last year.

Edit: Hell, it would also work as a demonstration to more casual audiences of how far Nintendo's portable hardware has come by remaking was originally little more than blocky sprites as detailed, fully rendered 3D models.

I mean, not getting hopes up too much, but it'd be kinda understandable.

Please be something. On Switch. Not Picross or Rumble.

If it's TCG on Switch I'll be much happier than having Stars.

Awww YES!! Hype is through the roof for me.

8 minutes makes me think its either more then just a single trailer, Pokemon trailers generally aren't super long so I wonder if were also getting some other announcements as well.

Maybe something new for Pokemon Go? (BOOO I hope not XD)

Maybe Gold/Silver/Crystal for 3DS VC? (HELL YES PLEASE!)

Maybe Nintendo just talking about how amazing Pokemon is for 6 minutes before the trailer? (Is it sad that I think this is the most likely option?)

i know ppl are saying this is a pokemon company announcement, but the direct is still under Nintendo ownership. a full fledged pokemon game on home console, would be saved for e3

EdIt: i just dont want to see broke hearts tmmrw

Assuming a new game gets announced, I kinda want it to be on the 3DS just to see the Bayonetta 2 and FFXIII-style meltdowns.

That's exactly my line of thought. They know that the nostalgia is a huge card they have now.

Whatever it is, please:

-Don't fuck up the stats of new pokémon like in Slowla
-Don't make another shitty dex like Slowla
-Bring back the National Dex
-Keep the challenge from SuMo compared to other entries
-Tone down the tutorial, SuMo was unsufferable
-Tone down the fucking amount of legendaries, SuMo was genIV all over again
-Stop the form gimmicks in order to limit the amount of new pokémon. Also, cut down the 1-stage only pokémon, SuMo went way too far with this.
-Don't ever try anything like Festival Plaza ever again. Online mode should be incorpored like it was in X/Y

My dream is a post-game where our MC
returns to Kanto and the new champion is Lillie And later we can explore Jotho.

Monster Hunter.

Ah good point, I always forget they don't publish that in the west.

I'll ask a different (and still relevant to people who think this might be for Pokemon GO) question:

Has Nintendo ever had a Nintendo Direct which focused on a game not appearing on their hardware?

It's a possible third version game though, not the release of a new generation or remake.

I'm not trying to insinuate that this is not going to be a new game, just looking at previous data.

I'm all aboard the hype train for the Switch port of sun and moon, or stars/eclipse, or Red/Green remake.

That's not what I meant. There's no reason to get excited for a mainline pokemon game period. Gamefreak underwhelms no matter the hardware.

And it doesn't really matter. MH doesn't look all that good but it will be a blast to play with actual good controls.

With the success of Pokémon Go and the Gen 1 nostalgia, it would make sense to ride that train for a Gen 1 remake of some sort for Switch. Get the oldies back into it with Switch and introduce new fans to the series.

Then get ready for Stars in March

I'm calling Red/Green remakes to tie into the new movie. Featuring expanded Kanto, with a ton of national dex additions to the region.

I'm also expecting it to be 3DS exclusive.

Everyone is hyped about Stars but they'll probably want people to get excited from new 3DS title.
Because having to make high quality assets?? In HD?! HEAVEN FORBID
