It's definitely possible but it's also worth noting that no mainline Pokemon has ever been announced at E3. The Pokemon Company likes to make these announcements on their own time.

I guess either option makes sense.

I don't think we can count on them to understand that people might be expecting this on Switch. They could very well think it's natural to continue the mainline on 3DS

I like this new approach by Nintendo. No more bullshit announcements of announcements that are ten months away or games that are ten years away.

Just basically announce stuff a day in advance and for games, 6 months in advanced.

New approach? Nintendo has done this sort of thing for around a decade now, with the exception of the Wii U panic Direct in early 2013.

I don't think that Nintendo has much say in this. the Pokemon Company would want to announce it before the 20 well liked games and surprises are announced all in 3-4 days next week.

Yep, Nintendo considers E3 a jigsaw piece - I've long accepted that they don't save everything for it in attempt to win it - for better and for worse.

They were definitely building up to a Z in a way that we didn't see in BW. The multimedia side of things doubled down on Zygarde, getting a whole massive arc in the anime and tons of merchandise elsewhere and actually tying up X/Y's few lose threads while the games never got a chance to capitalize on it.

They clearly planned to do that from the start, since Zygarde's signature moves exist in the Gen VI games, but they abandoned it for whatever reason to move on to Gen VII instead.

It would signal that Game Freak is confident enough in the Switch stock situation for whenever it's supposed to launch. Which would be a good thing.
