Good... get rid of Lincoln and his racist spewing garbage.

"I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality ... I will add to this that I have never seen, to my knowledge, a man, woman, or child who was in favor of producing a perfect equality, social and political, between negroes and white men." -Abraham Lincoln.

Is that a man we want on our money?

So are these the new bills that have glowing text every 30 days or something?
I need to see this, that sounds wild.

There will also be changes to the $5 bill to depict civil rights era leaders.

This sounds also important. Maybe a MLK bill?

People are going to start calling 20s "Tubs" aren't they? I can already see it and I am sad.

Cool news though. I bet old 20s will shoot up in price. Not like modern ones but ones that already had some special value.

No man is worth being on our money. We should only put corporations on it

Your days are numbered, Jefferson.

And Washington. And Franklin too?! Damn it, who didn't have slaves at some point?!

I'm sure Republicans will come up with some totally not racist reasons to not make this change. I'm sure they are writing their responses to this as we speak and will declare Obama is stomping all over the Constitution and our history.

Aren't $20 bills the most commonly used and circulated? This is pretty big. #WeMadeIt

To me this is what made the fact that Jackson was on it wonderful. He absolutely hated the idea of a national bank and fought intensely against the creation of one. Then to fuck with him we put him on the most widely circulated bill of it.

At least Jefferson is only on the nickel (Well and the $2 but lol). Washington and Lincoln aren't going anywhere in our lifetimes. Franklin too.

I wonder if the popularity of the musical Hamilton is one of the reasons he's staying on the 10 dollar bill.

pretty sure franklin eventually changed his opinion and freed his slaves and fought for their freedom and integration to society

(correct me if i'm wrong though)

edit apparently he was the president of the Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery and the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage
pretty neat

Andrew Jackson, a notorious racist and slave owner, getting replaced on the $20 bill by Harriet Tubman is poetic justice.

Almost everyone on our paper money was a notorious racist and slave owner.

Harriet Tubman is a great person to be placed on paper money, if only as a reminder of our history.

...

Dude said that in 1858. I know it's a flippant argument, but every time a similar argument comes up it always seems to ignore that maybe, just maybe, certain things happened between then and 1865. Franklin was the president of an abolitionist group -- "The Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery and the Relief of Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage."

The oft forgotten John Dickinson also became an abolitionist as well.

Remember when the republican candidates were asked at one if the early debates what woman they would put on the $10 bill, and they all said their wife or their mother?

I know and agree. I also wouldn't be surprised to find out that he may have said such things to pander to people. I don't really know the context of that quote.

Americans, please start calling the $20 bills Tubbies. Here in Canada, we refer to our Dollars as Loonies and our $2 coins as toonies. Join us
