The thing that sticks out most here is the release date. No way in hell I believe they could have a MVC4 ready in time for 2017 (if this is legit then prepare for the inevitable delay).

It was about 5 or 6 months ago when Marvel announced they were getting "serious" with gaming or whatever and even had some "Can't talk about it now but who knows what the future holds?" kind of things to say about MvC. This very well could have been in development at that time. 2017 sounds possible to me.

2017 does seem kinda early.

Doesn't seem like they would have had a lot of time to work on it currently.

IG seemed to have stopped with KI stuff awhile ago though.

Not if they took dev. time from SF5 and put it towards MvC4 ;P

I'm going with there being a 0% chance of this happening. Didn't Ono already say in an interview that the only fighting game Capcom is working on is SFV?

I'll throw my hat in the ring:

73 characters
Christmas 2017
Pro only. Fuck plebs.

>Odd number of characters
>Pro only

Okay satan

He also said the Akuma teaser wasn't for SFV and teased it was for a secret project, so he's trolling somewhere

Depends on when development started. We really have no way to know for sure when initial development began, or how much might be cribbed from UMvC3 as a starting point.

I mean maybe if they plan on doing some sort of episodic or f2p release model then maybe? Otherwise, I have serious doubts. I mean if it's actually targeting 2017, it would almost certainly be a fall release and I feel like they would be hesitant to release this during a busy fall season.

Looking at the release dates for their previous games, they seem to really like releasing in Q1. I feel like a Q1 2018 release would be much more likely (assuming this isn't all a hoax).

I would definitely be inclined to agree, but on the other hand the Marvel license is a hell of a lot stronger than it was when MvC3 launched... a big, well-marketed Marvel title could definitely have an easier time standing out than, say, one of like five separate online shooters.

Of course, all this is based on the assumption these pictures are real... which they may well not be.

IIRC he didn't say Akuma wasn't for SFV. He just said that they never admitted that Akuma would be playable in SFV. Akuma is most likely just the boss of a new mode (Extra Battle or Arcade) in SFV.

I imagine they could save money by utilizing the SFV engine here. Instead of x factor we get x trigger everybody! I can already see the pitchforks hahaha.

They why say "Playable at PlayStation Experience"?

If anything, that statement was just Ono's classic misdirection. Make us think the polar opposite of what we would normally expect when the latter is what we're getting.

MvC4 being playable in a little over a week sounds far fetched, though.

That's definitely a better way to parse it, yeah, it doesn't TOTALLY rule out SFV.

I will admit though, the conspiracy theorist in me has definitely noted that the Akuma tease mentions nothing about SFV anywhere, and isn't on the Street Fighter youtube channel in any capacity.

I find it more than a little curious that we have seen basically no official confirmation from Capcom that the vid has anything to do with SFV. I can't even find it on any Capcom channel to check the video tags.

Curious. Not necessarily proof... but curious.

Again, depends on when development started, we really have no idea how far along the game could be. Games are not always revealed right when development starts... look at Fallout 4 for an extreme example.

Arcade mode or Extra Battle could still be playable at PSX, couldn't they?

Alright, no, seriously, it's beginning to bother me that there appears to be no official version of the Akuma tease that I can find. It's all secondhand.

Can anyone find anything from Capcom about that tease, on their site, any of their youtube channels, ANYTHING that links that tease to SFV? Because it's really starting to feel like it was shown once and they let us all draw our own conclusions about it. And it's an obvious conclusion, but now that I've read that interview I can't shake the feeling we have been masterfully trolled.

I just don't see Capcom offering a playable version of a huge reveal. They're the king of the cocktease - short, elusive trailers that they leave for the community to pick apart for weeks. I can't recall them ever revealing something huge and offering a playable demo alongside it. I mean, if this reveal is true , I doubt we'll see gameplay footage.

We did get to see SFV gameplay the day after it was announced (leaked).
It was early as fuck development wise but still

Really? I could have sworn it took weeks after the initial reveal. I'm getting old.

I would generally be inclined to agree, although I'm open to being surprised. I don't like to say anything is IMPOSSIBLE.

However, this does once again make an assumption... that the Akuma tease is tied to MvC4, which it is not guaranteed to be.

Yeah even if this was real I'd be shocked if it's actually playable at PSX.

If this is indeed coming in 2017 and supposedly already might be playable in a week, I almost wonder if it's following the KI model with Seasons and a F2P mode. Wonder how the fanbase would react

Ultimate marvel 3 HD for download

Marvel vs capcom 4 launches 2017 with an early access model. Releases with 12 core capcom and marvel characters. More drop periodically and can be bought in bundles or individually. The game is supported as long as it's making money.

I could see this.

F2P Marvel might ensure longevity to the tournament scene by offering continued development support that the series never benefited from previously. It might even remove the taboo of a game that could never (and should never) be balanced. F2P Marvel would be particularly interesting.
