The same for me. The mosque I usually frequent is praying Saturday, so I'll have to just go somewhere else this time.

Eid Mubarak, everyone! Q: What is it you all do on Eid, if you aren't simply praying and then going back to work? It's a family affair for me, entirely.

we don't actually pray a lot in EID , but first thing my family do is to visit the cemetery that my grandfather and my old relative buried in it
of course i don't live in my main country , so usually we got visited by close relative and cousins and friends , we make a breakfast
and after that maybe sleep for some time ( its 8 AM right now , and some people still a wake from yesterday )
today is friday ,so we go to home and rest for a while and prepare for friday prayer in 12:30 PM )

after that we visit another friends and in the night we might go to the park or Theme Park for the kids to enjoy

Haha, Toronto fell asleep without sighting the moon and so will complete 30 days of Ramadhan. Chicago Hilal got that report at 11:30 CST (12:30 EST) after Toronto's hilal committee decided that no moon was sighted.

I still don't get how they reached that decision considering the amount of places in which the moon has been sighted. It's Eid when the moon is sighted, no matter where, so I won't be fasting tomorrow. Toronto pls.

Yea, my family changed their mind last minute here in Mississauga and will now celebrate Eid on Saturday.

I will, however, celebrate it tomorrow with friends and coworkers lol

I don't think the moon was sighted anywhere until the Colombia sighting and the California sighting. According to moonsighting.com, it was scientifically impossible to see the moon in Saudi Arabia or anywhere else in the Arabian Gulf. The only country in the region that is strict with their sightings, Oman, declared Eid to be on Saturday because they didn't see a moon.

It was only really possible to see the moon in central America, southwest US, and South America.

Last time this happened, people just differed with the website's opinion. The position of the moon is not in doubt [astronomical data], just the possibility of it being seen. Different astronomers use different levels of research, observational data, to create a model of what could possibly be seen and not.

I wish it were as easy as to just go with moonsighting.com. Yesterday for example, ours was announced right after Saudi Arabia's. A wholly different region...

In the age of photographs, I wish more people would just post verifiable photographs.

I am gonna have a.... different experience today as an Eid day.

Basically, I have been up all night playing League of Legends and by the time I wanted to sleep, it was too late as the Eid Prayer is at 8 O'clock. So basically I am there sleepy as hell.

I guess by the time I finish, praying, I am gonna get back home and sleep untill later today.
and it was totally worth it because I had 4 wins in a row in Lol which is quite rare
Hope you guys have a good one

There are still people out there saying they don't believe the moon was sighted in San Diego / Lodi.

After a certain point I think it's best to just follow the community, regardless of what you believe, for matters like this anyway.

That's a goof up on Toronto's part...because they ignored the huge California and the west coastal region of the continent. They should have waited for reports from every part of the continent before a declaration but khair, +1 roza is always a good thing and the intentions were clean.

There's a certain sect that can never be satisfied if they cannot verify that the one who is testifying isn't a Wahhabi - these are the other extreme who love labelling anyone they disagree with as Wahhabi. So, they're rejecting any testimony of moon sighting from anyone who is not from their group.

The moon was also sighted by the naked eye in South America.

I don't know what's going on with Toronto's Hilal Committee now because they went back on Twitter and said that they exclude California and the west coast from their criteria (not mentioned on their website)... despite the fact that they had accepted testimony from there a few years ago. I think there was a change in management recently so that might be an issue or maybe they don't want to admit to having egg on their face with the premature declaration. A lot of people are ticked off to say the least.

Eid Mubarak!

Remember, just because ramadan is over, try not to go back to your old wasteful days. Keep the poor and less fortuante in your thoughts today (and ongoing), eat properly, live properly etc etc.

Yeah that looks like a made up excuse lol. It's like saying you only accept testimony from Hijaz and the eastern province is not part of your criteria. Totally ridiculous. Hawaii or Carribean maybe you can build a case but the entire West coast or South America? Come on dudes. Admit it and move on. It's just silly how we are having split eids because of peoples ego getting in the way.

However I know some fools who have celebrated Eid today on a ridiculous basis that it was declared in KSA. Similarly, you can extrapolate that and decide if California is within the vicinity or region or Toronto.

We've used California sightings before, though. That's baffling. Why is it suddenly not feasible to base the day of Eid on something we've used before? That alone makes me question whether the choice for Eid on Saturday was a decision based on convenience for all the M-F 9-5 workers.

Regardless, if we don't count California suddenly now, were there not claimed sightings way east of the world (e.g. Malaysia, Australia)? Places significantly AHEAD of us? And then Colombia which is only an hour behind us? Chile, as well?

Toronto isn't a city in which we commonly see the moon - if we limited it to being in our "vicinity" we'd always go 30 days no matter what.

E: I don't mean to come off cross or anything, it just confused me. Regardless, Eid Mubarak to everyone no matter when you celebrate. This Ramadan has been a memorable one for me, and I hope you all have a fantastic Eid.

I agree with you on the double standards, you can't pick and choose, even with these committees. Like people specifically choosing to celebrate Eid so they can avoid the extra day of fast. smh.
