Quantum Break coming to PC and Xbox simultaneously on April 5th (?)

Exclusive games are always a reason to buy a system. For me, as a PC player, it's even the only reason (I only own a ps4 because of infamous, bloodborne and some other exclusives I'm looking forward to). So yes you're right this doesn't seem to make sense especially in the UK and north america. But in all other regions (or most of them) the xbox one seems to be doing 'not too great', even a heavy hitter like Halo 5 (I think it's way more important than QB) didn't help to boost sales. So overall I do not think this is going to really hurt the xbox brand and a wider audience pool might help them to build a fan foundation and help promoting the tv show (still a thing?). And in the long run this might be more important.
The show is part of the game not a real stand alone thing. Like you I own all of the machines and a PC because of exclusives. And as such I can say how it effects my thinking in how it makes Xbox look.

They don't have a dominant OS with a store to leverage and can more easily reach, compete, control and profit from dedicated hardware with their ecosystem.

In other words, having exclusive content on a platform makes said platform more appealing which drives console sales, or at least Nintendo and Sony believe that to be true.

Just like Recore a few months ago.
Scalebound next...

And Fable and Sea of Thieves and Cuphead.

What is genuinely exclusive on Xbox these days? HALO, Gears, Forza? Anything else?

Genuine question as I've been on the brink of adding an XBO for a while but given I have PC and PS4 I'm wondering if it's worth it.

Doubt it. Windows Store is on every Windows 10 pc, there is nothing to install. And people buy stuff from MS all the time, maybe not $60 games but to say that people don't trust ms is bullshit.

Installation is the least of the problems. And yes, when it comes to PC gaming, people don't trust MS ecosystem. Tell that to all the people who just lost their GFLW games bought on the GFLW store because they can't download it anymore.

Oh wow, I seriously had the feeling the show was a serious standalone thing... now I'm a tiny bit disappointed.

PC Games Hardware:
http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Quantum-Break-Spiel-15745/News/zeitgleich-fuer-PC-und-Xbox-One-1185880/

Googel Translate:
Actually "Breaking News" should be published at 15 o'clock to Quantum Break, the new game from Remedy, which will be released on 04/05/2016 exclusively for Xbox One. But after Gamestar reported that the time manipulation Adventure also appears for Windows 10, it's now quite clear, what news at 15 o'clock will be announced.

So in roughly two hours (+20 Minutes) it should be official.

Microsoft believes too, PC version doesn't change the "console exclusive" appeal.

This always will happen. Doesn't mean that is relevant overall.

People that play hardcore games on PC aren't in the mass market of people that want a cheap console.

You really think that if Xbone wasn't bombing as it is, MS would have started simultaneously releasing all of its exclusive games* on PC?
LOL

* Except of course for the holy trinity of IPs which are Xbox-synonyms to them: Halo, Forza and Gears.

I'd even pick Uplay over Windows 10 store :x

But I guess even if it comes to PC, that'll be good by itself, so I'm looking forward to it.

I'll believe it when I see it, but this could be a ploy to get me through buy something on the Windows store.

Well, you either can try to build a successful new IP here or launch to a very limited audience on a hardware that its fortune is very unlikely to change too much from now until its end of life in a few years.

The up side is that you might have a popular IP on your hand that lives on beyond an specific hardware and can be brought back in future an become a franchise or you can risk just wasting your investment and flush it all down the drain. I feel having more strong IPs are more valuable to them than maybe selling some more of that hardware right now. But it's still a win10 store game, so that's kind of a problem...

Not 100% true, Sony leveraging Smart Sony/Samsung TV Market with PS NOW to get more customers to play their games, like last of us, uncharted and god of war. In a couple years PlayStation 4 games will be on it as well.

, whereas a lot of posts here are still stuck in console war mentality

No they are not.

Talking about Xbox as a platform is all well and good, but Microsoft's console bank comes from the slice of money they get for every 3rd party game they sell on their platform, and Xbox live gold subs.

You give people any incentive not to buy a console - then you are potentially looking at console sales loss, a Xbox live subs loss and missing out on that 3rd party money.

looking at it the other way, if they don't care about that stuff and just want "xbox live " as a platform, why would you need hardware?

And this all they would've never gotten from people that game on PC primarily.

wow did not expect a day and date in a million years wow if true! :O
I bought my XO because I wanted to play QB on the platform it came out first.

I knew it was coming to PC later but never in my wildest dreams imagined it to be same day release! :O

You've got people on this very thread on the fence for Xbox purchase saying ah well saves me buying an Xbox. It very much hurts the console even more so if it's day and date.

I never believe these people will buy Xbone since beginning.
Typing words is way more easy than click the buy button.

You know why?

Because Rise of The Tomb Raider (great game) had very low sales numbers on the XB1, and they probably don't want the same for Quantum Break.

Release for more platforms = more money and better sales figures.

If true it'll be a big plus point for me in respect to them properly supporting PC.

It would also be another nail n coffin of ever getting an Xbox One but them's the breaks.

Will be curious to see how this finally turns out.

Xbox One is doing better than 360, so I don't know what you talking about, but the current strategy makes total sense.

In fact was a big mistake MS focusing too much on X360 after the Games for Windows Live fiasco, they shouldn't have waited so long to try again.

That just shows how this is a pro consumer move. We aren't forced to buy a console just for a game that would be better on PC.

Ikuu

Had his dog run over by Blizzard's CEO
yet you have people in this very thread who are saying they now it saves them buying an Xbox.

And now they get access to all the people with high end PCs, not just those that might have possibly bought an Xbone.

First of all, RoTTR is not MS game. Second, you can't just port a game to PC in just 3 months.

Alan Wake as pre-order bonus sounds like it is coming to Steam

More like BC version for XBO.

You really think they would've somehow startet buying all that if they buy the console to play one or two exclusives?
